Like, on the one hand, if the Creator is omnipent and all powerful, people who are going to be saved, were made to be saved; on the other, we have choice, and our decisions matter--meriting reward or punishment. One group was focused on evangelism, and needed an excuse to proselytize, you needed the Word to be Saved; the other needed justification why people in one sect were superior to another, even if the layman couldn't explain the differences in dogma.
