WHY. THIS LOOKS AWESOME. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE BENDIS?!
>>
>>78660451
I'm cautiously optimistic because the line-up and art looks good and there's no way Bendis can just ape the movie here. His GotG isn't as bad as people say and his Iron Man is decent, so there's hope.
>>
>>78660483
>Thing ongoing
I would forgive Marvel for fucking us F4 fans over if they gave this to us. Marvel Two-in-One was one of my favorite comics and Thing dicking around in space is something I desperately need in my life.

Although I guess it depends on who is writing it.
>>
>>78660451
why fucking Bendis,, get him off the cosmic already.

Might as well get ready for Mantis and Cosmo, some of my favorite characters be totally ruined and act totally like meme shit

Oh dear. Here we go.
>>
>>78660657
Is Guardians of Infinity out already? Is it true this I hear that Andy Lanning was the strong part of the duo?
>>
>>78660600
Makes sense. Bendis' plate is already pretty full. I imagine it'll be a "show up in Bendis' Guardians for an arc, if well received, get spin-off book" dealios. Probably to replace Guardians of Infinity once it gets cancelled at issue 12.
>>
>>78660707
Yeah, Abnett is a shitty meme writer no better than Bendis. Guardians of Infinity #1 was garbage. It's clear that Lanning was 99% of the quality behind that team and the true visionary behind Annihilation and Guardians of the Galaxy (08). The TRUE guardians won't be back until Lanning gets a book which he doesn't want because he has too much self-respect to work for quipvel ever again.
>>
>>78660451
That is the best costume Mantis has ever had. And it looks pretty good on Moondragon too.
>>
>>78660741
I'm not a big fan of the hair, makes her look like a space geisha.
>>
>>78660598
Just because Moondragon appears again it doesn't mean she has to see other people. She's fine being single.

>>78660707
Is it true this I hear that Andy Lanning was the strong part of the duo?
I think so. Infinity's first issue was dissapointing in my opinion
>>
>>78660739
I really think Abnett isn't full on meme, but he was most likely told by Bendis what the rules are if he comes back, and so he is playing ball sadly
>>
>>78660739
But Lanning wrote a version of the Guardians post-DnA breakup.
>>
>>78660775
>Just because Moondragon appears again it doesn't mean she has to see other people. She's fine being single
This is subjectively true, but might I remind you Bendis is writing and everybody needs somebody, even if only for comedic purposes
>>
>>78660766
Guess it's supposed to be a visual callback of her time as a Vietnamese prostitute.
>>
>>78660766
She's Vietnamese you know, always has been
>>
>>78660739
Annihilation was done by Giffen. He's the real visionary of cosmic not DnA.
>>
>>78660766
>makes her look like a space geisha
Isn't that, like, almost exactly what she is? Wasn't that whole Celestial Madonna thing basically "high class cosmic whore for a race of alien plants"? Not to mention literally being a a high class whore back when she lived on Earth.
>>
>>78660766
she was a Vietnamese prostitute and was literally part of a prophecy to become the Space Madonna, so it works with that in mind

Mantis is the only one we know will be in it. Although it wouldn't surprise me if Moon dragon was too.
Bug sadly can't because Hasbro somehow has the film rights to the character despite not having the comic rights.

Is this even a book or is this just a bunch of characters that may show up in about 5 panels of Guardians of the Galaxy?
>>
>>78660886
Yeah how does Hasbro even own Bug, that is all kinds of levels of confusing?

Though I would be ok with Mantis and Moon Dragon showing up in the movie, James Gunn did a good job on the movie, even if I don't like how it affected the comic I am not letting it ruin my enjoyment of the movie
>>
>>78660508

>>
>>78660892
I will not lie, all those costumes are pretty awesome, a nice call back to the original Guardians costumes while still being somewhat new

>>
>>78660952
Probably the latter, though they may get a spin-off if it resonates with the audience, since Marvel is clearly trying to expand the Cosmic books
>>
>>78660489

It's going to be a slap in the face to DnA fans and you fucking know it. Bendis is going to dangle the entirety of Cosmic in front of your face going "neener neener it's all mine and there's nothing you can do about it!"

Bugs a Micronaut
Its like how ROMs rights are fucking everywhere
>>
>>78660952
>writer of Guardians
>artist for Guardians
>Bendis is already writing 4 books, which tends to be his limit
It's almost assuredly just a bunch of characters that'll appear in an arc of GotG. If they're well-received, we might get a spin-off book though.
>>
>>78660775
>Infinity's first issue was dissapointing in my opinion
I doubt most modern comics could be better with just 2/3s of a normal issue to work with.

>>78660775
>Is it true this I hear that Andy Lanning was the strong part of the duo?
Guardians 3000 and Secret Wars Korvac Saga was good.
>>
>>78660986
It baffles me to this day that Marvel never snagged the rights to Rom and let them go to IDW. How expensive could they POSSIBLY have been?
>>
>>78660955
Bug was created for the Micronauts, so his film rights are wrapped up with the micronauts rights. Hasbro owns the Micronauts.
>>
>>78660986
gotcha, that makes sense. Guess that means we will never see Bug on the big screen. I just hit certain levels of sad
>>
>>78660691
>Abnett's book has a clear Bendis influence in the first issue and I think they are doing that as a requirement on purpose
Nah, Abnett just acknowledged that the perception of the characters has changed and writes accordingly. He said as much in interviews.
>>
>>78661023
Make him blue, make his staff pointy and call him Insect, done.
>>
>>78660983

Bendis doesn't have Nova or the Surfer... yet. Though considering who does have those, it's not much better.

His influence is felt everywhere anyway. He has his hands in everything Marvel at some level.
>>
>>78661043
It's kinda sad that the writers don't get to shape the character, but the audience does and such audience has never even touched a comic, innit?
>>
>>78660983
I like to imagine Bendis is the kid in the toy box that when he gets the toys doesn't let anyone else play with them unless they agree with his rules. Bendis is like that until until mommy takes him home
>>
>>78660882
Are you saying only thing you see in Mantis as a character is her jumping Quill's bones?

That's...sad
>>
that's ALOT of comic relief for one team
>>
>>78661045
So do you expect Marvel to do that anytime soon?
They don't even care about a no name like Bug, I'm surprised they haven't killed him off yet. I'm saying this as a fan of the character
>>
>>78661018
Why does it work this way for films but not for comics. This makes no sense. Does this mean the Machine Man's film rights are with whoever has the filmrights to 2001: A Space Odyssey? The rights to Red Ronin with Godzilla?
>>
>>78661072
it really is, I mean we have actual fans who buy the books and are more than forward with what they want but the general audience are loader, even if they don't buy any of the books
>>
>>78661072
It happens when you want to have both decades spanning continuity and relevance to the newest movies and developments at all times. It'll just turn into this weird hodge-podge that'll probably be even more inaccessible than if you had just left it be.

>Does this mean the Machine Man's film rights are with whoever has the filmrights to 2001: A Space Odyssey?
>The rights to Red Ronin with Godzilla?
That is entirely possible. Every contract is different so it's impossible to know for sure without lawyers of the given company confirming it one way or the other, but we know that's the case for Bug, so it might be the case for them aswell.
>>
>>78661018
>>78660986
Yeah, but if that were the case Marvel shouldn't be able to use Bug in the comics, just like they can't use Rom. How come they can use Bug in the comics but not the movies?

I'll check it out, but no way in hell am I getting my hopes up.
>>
>>78661113
Expect? Not at all, but they could do it if they wanted to get a cheap pop from fans. James Gunn seems like the guy who would have Bug sitting in a space bar with his back turned, so he could reasonably deny it's him if Hasbro complains.
>>
>>78660451
>dat logo
Nice Brainiac ripoff, Marvel.
>>
>>78660864
And Gamora and Angela for a bit, I guess.
>>
>>78661174
>>78661178
Yeah, this makes no sense. Why can they use him for the comics but not the films? Did Hasbro specifically get Bug's filmrights because they wanted to use him and Marvel was like "He's such a no name, we'll probably never use him. You can have him for the low price of X dollars".
>>
>>78661178
Marvel can use any characters they themselves made in the comics. So Bug, who they created for the Micronauts, can still be used in the comics. Likewise with the Spaceknights for ROM.

However, Bug is still associated with the Micronauts. The Spaceknights are still associated with ROM. Hasbro owns the film rights for those franchises and those characters are part of those franchises, thus they can use those characters in movies and marvel can't because Marvel doesn't own the Micronauts film rights just like they don't own the X-men film rights.

That's not to say that Hasbro CAN use them. Hasbro might have to get approval from Marvel to use them in the movies, like how Fox has to get approval from Marvel to make TV Shows despite owning the X-men live-action rights. Contracts and rights packages are weird like that.

>>
>>78661273
He's part of the Micronauts. Hasbro owns the Micronauts film rights. I don't see what part of this is hard for you to understand.

Marvel can use Wolverine in the comics but can't use him in the movies. Same deal, except in the Micronauts' case, Marvel NEVER owned their film rights as opposed to owning them and selling them off.

Bendis biggest steaming dump on DnA was bullshitting a romance between Gamora and Nova that was his the sole motivating factor for saving the universe, as seen in his Original Sin issues.

That DESPITE the fact that less than a day before going into the Cancerverse, Dick went to hell and back for his actual girlfriend.

You gotta admire his commitment.

My headcanon is that this Star-Lord is Cancerverse Peter, and him marrying Kitty is part of the plan to inflitrate the main Marvel Universe.
>>
>>78660451
Okay, can someone tell me what's wrong with Bendis current plan? I think at this point it's absolutely clear he's trying to change his vision for the Guardians. I don't have hate googles for him so when I read his new volumen I noticed how he's trying to change his way of doing the book almost completely from what he did on Volume 3. No Earth, No Raccoon catchphrase, no movie references. I waited a few more issues to see if it was just a thing from first issues but now I see he's introducing new ideas with cosmic characters like this team. I fail to see what exactly is Bendis doing wrong in this Volume. I really don't understand how cosmic fans are still pissed off when he's not doing anything offensive. No retcons and actually undid some retcons he did. He's trying to do good for fans this time. The team looks badass. What more do you want?

I seriously don't understand why are old fans still mad.
>>
>>78661841
Isn't Prism a new character?
>>
>>78661889
Is he? I was under the impression it was the same Prism who used to hang with the Marauders.
>>
>>78661874
Not a Guardians fan but first impressions are extremely important.

Look at the Xbone and the whole no sharing games thing. Itas never recovered since then, even with all the new shit thas been added
>>
>>78661910
I seriously doubt Bendis would have one of the Marauders of all people suddenly be a hero in space
>>
>>78661850
That or a Skrull or a Dire Wraith.
>>
>>78661966
Eh, back when the Marauders were a thing, you wouldn't have expected Venom, Kitty and Thing as space heroes either, would you?
>>
>>78661011
>Secret Wars Korvac Saga was good.
It had GOAT Avengers team.
>>
>>78661874
>I fail to see what exactly is Bendis doing wrong in this Volume.
I wouldn't know. I stopped reading after the first few terrible years.
Wake me up when he has written more good than bad and I may go back and check it out.
>>
I looked over the thread but didn't see anyone point it out. They could have, but just in case no one did:

Doubt it's a Thing ongoing, Arthur Adams has been doing the covers for GotG this run, so I imagine that is just a cover for one of the regular GotG issues.

Though I suppose giving Thing an ongoing would certainly fuel the whole "every Guardian has their own title" deal.
>>
>>78662006
Kitty and Thing? Yes. Venom, not really, but at least the Symbiote is an alien. What excuse is there for a Mutant supremacist terrorist to suddenlt be a cop on Knowhere?
>>
>>78662022
>Though I suppose giving Thing an ongoing would certainly fuel the whole "every Guardian has their own title" deal.
It's actually different with Thing though. He's one of the Fantastic Four AND the Fantastic Four don't even have a book right now. This would actually be well deserved for a change, even if I personally don't care.
>>
>>78661850
I fail to see how a guy who gives all his money to fund orphanages and spends the rest of his time Guarding the Galaxy for more than 3 years (Marvel Time) is a bad guy trying to infiltrate the Marvel Universe. I don't see why anyone would want to get rid of him even if there's another real Peter outside. It would be a Simpsons' Skinner situation where the fake proved to be nicer tan the original (who was kind of an asshole).
>>
you think they got the rights back for Bug or Bendis just doesn't care about movies

>>
>>78660451
Goddamnit why does Bendis always get the best casts?
>>
>>78662110
Are you obtuse? Why would a mutant killer be a guardian of knowhere? He is not a hero, he is not related whatsoever to space. Venom was at least an ALIEN symbiote. Thing was in space, so was Kitty. Why would Prism be with Gotg?
>>
shit no Thanos in GOT2 2 probably means no moondragon
>>
>>78661874

Agree with this entirely. It's only a few issues in but the current run is actually pretty solid. Really didn't expect it since Guardians of Knowhere during SW was probably even worse than his pre-SW Guardians run.

>>
>>78662227
As a guy that liked Bendis' Pre-SW GOTG, Guardians of Knowhere was pretty boring.
>>
>>78662270

Yeah, it was just....nothing. Four issues of legitimately nothing. And Deodato hasn't looked worse in a long time.
>>
>>78662202
Dude, chill. There is no reason, but that doesn't mean they can't bullshit one if they wanted to use him, maybe he regenerated from a leftover piece of one of the many MANY times Prism was shattered and will be horrified to find out what his other him is, maybe he's amnesiac, maybe he's undercover for Mr. Sinister, maybe it's a redemption story. I'm just spit balling here, my man.
>>
>>78662305
Or maybe he is the same race as Martinex. It's not like there are not numerous characters with the same names.
>>
>>78662351
That is also true, there's a million explanations that Benis could pull out his massive ass.
>>
>>78660657
And considering his "NO FUN ALLOWED" take on Hercules I'm thankful for that. Lanning was clearly the talent behind that duo.
>>
>>78662202
>mutant killer
Who was killed by Kitty?
>>
>>78662418
I don't remember Prism being ever killed. Riptide, Scalphunter. But not Prism
>>
>>78662409

Are we even reading the same book? The humor isn't the same as the Pak/Van Lente stuff but it's not entirely absent.

Are you one of those people that needs every single run to read like a carbon copy of the last one you liked?
>>
>>78662418
If Prism held a grudge against everyone who killed him, he would have a looooot of grudges. He's up there with Jean in the resurrection scale, but for the opposite reason that no one cares enough about him to check if he's dead or alive.
>>
>>78662409
ITT Lanning still butthurt at Abnett making him a cckold
>>
>a rider
that's a little odd
>>
Since Guardians of Knowhere was nothing but an advertisement for Bendis' next run on the comic, I think it's safe to guess that these guys are going to be the by-the-book officers of Knowhere that come in conflict with the GOTG for being too reckless.

Because Bendis loves having superteams fight over nothing.
>>
>>78662102
Bendis has declared that from now on, he intends on writing his Guardians book in such a way that not only won't it be like the movie, but would be impossible to translate into the movie. Hence why he replaced Peter with Kitty and threw Venom and Thing on the team. Seems like he's taking the whole "Marvel Creative Committee getting the boot" thing pretty hard.

Which, hey, credit where it's due, the first few issues of the relaunch are better than anything from his last volume.
>>
>>78662228
It isn't copypasta, it's a legitimate question. Don't make it into a joke please.
>>
>>78662544
>Which, hey, credit where it's due, the first few issues of the relaunch are better than anything from his last volume.
It's really not. But then again, I wonder why Bendis is still writing them, since they are not the hot property anymore.
>>
>>78662544
Bendis wrote Kitty, Venom and Thing in way before the comitee was disbanded and Peter is going back to be Starlord after issue six.
>>
>>78662544
As if anyone would want any of his material in a Guardians film, man, he's gotten really conceited with his success on other comics.

Guardians of the Galaxy is fucking awesome. I cant even fathom the amount of shit it's getting on /co/

Its just like the movie, which got good reviews, and its one of the highest selling comics in the world right now and for good reason

>b-but its not MUH GUARDIANS!
lol fuck off. Nobody cared or knew who they were before the movie. Consider actually having fun once in your life, thats what the run is, fun. Since when is NOT MUH a valid criticism? They're basically taking the gotg name and making it something better, there's nothing wrong with that.

Its basically the exact same for Kitty Pryde. Reinventing a C-list character into a badass renegade which is also selling well and everyone is enjoying it aside from you /co/ntrarians. Why is that exactly?

Thing went to space after Reed and Susan died after Secret Wars and the FF disbanded for good. Aside from being with his family, his only other objective in life was becoming an astronaut and living in space so he's doing that now.

Venom was first sent as the Earth's representation in the team and a replacement of Iron Man personally picked by Stark. Later the symbiote went to his real home planet and was purified, it became a warrior of justice. Nowadays everyone forgets he's part of the team but he has a nice solo.
