She's interesting because she was originally just Earth-Two Supergirl, older as everyone else from Earth-Two was.
She was brought over and stuck around because writers and fans alike loved her.
The problem came when CoIE got rid of the entire concept of Earth-Two, so now she didn't make any sense. It was kind of a unique position, too, which is why it's so interesting.
So there were various attempts to changer her origin but they just continued to make things more complicated, kinda like with Donna Troy.
She's not really important to Infinite Crisis on a story level, it's just that since that reintroduced the Multiverse she could finally just get her old origin back and throw everything else in the trash.
