I always wanted to a story arc where there is a "Superhero arms race" between nations, and that the US is paying off supervillains to assassinate other nations heroes so that the US would be able to control the tide because nobody wants to fight the nation with the largest number of superheroes, and most superheroes in the US are so wrapped up in their personal lives they don't even notice the problem.

That would actually be kind of interesting to see. All the old guard heroes vs all the young upstarts could make an interesting dynamic.
Plus on a purely personal level, I'd love to get these two interacting with each other again. They had a good back-and-forth sort of chemistry.

I feel that Marvel is purposely keeping a lot of their "popular" characters in a safe place where they don't actually learn or grow. Don't expect Carol Danvers, Female Thor, Squirrel Girl, Kate Bishop or Hellcat to actually face some tough choices. Kamala is the only one who seems to learn life lessons. The rest can't have any grey areas it seems.
