well I tend to take one trait or gimmick and build on top of it and imagine how they'll act as part of it.
for example one of my OCs began when I wanted to make someone from a village outside the kingdoms.
so I gave him a job as a farmer as that would be the most likely job he would have. A simple weapon that wouldn't need much training to use right. (a shovel with a shotgun built in).
I then gave him a semblance that would be helpful in farming (the ability to take sunlight and turn it into energy for him to use). Then I came up with why he wanted to be a hunter (his parents were hunters but retired to become farmers and raise a family, he wants to return to the family business and see the world) and why he had his aura unlocked. (Everyone in his village gets their aura unlocked at 16 at the latest as part of entering into adulthood, he got his unlocked a little early because of his parents.) Then I add a twist (his parents were killed in a bandit attack when he was in his first year of combat school. he quit and went back to the farm to take care of his younger siblings and work the farm with the help of his uncle Babe, his father's partner when he was a hunter who helped found the village with him.)
Finally I give a reason why they're part of the story. (After helping rescue a strange boy from the wilderness and aiding in the defence of his village from a large Grimmtide, he was offered a scholarship program to beacon partly because of a glowing recommendation from his uncle Babe. he took the offer because his family and village were being taken care of with government relief and his siblings were old enough to work the farm on their own and he could make far more money working as a hunter then as a farmer.) Then I give him a name because I'm terrible at coming up with names and I end up coming up with their whole back story before i pick a name. (jack apple and his fairy tale inspiration is Johnny appleseed.)

But then I figure if it comes to that point where she does get a flashback episode, that will probably show if they've decided to voice act her or not. No, I think that in most well developed countries, the majority of crops are machine farmed and "farmers" are closer to businessmen than farmers, making the whole shovel and sunlight thing kind of off.
In a world with remnant's tech level (A word where people camping out in the middle of nowhere in RVs still have holographic light computers) I'd imagine the vast, vast, vast majority of farming is done by companies or state departments via automated drone--not by retired warriors tilling the ground by hand.

Hard to really argue that.
We don't know how they compare to his speed before. It's entirely possible he was faster, more agile, and better at moving with his real legs. He will slow down and tire just as easily, because kicking is not just a lower leg motion (possibly slow down and tire faster if the prosthetics cause more stress than regular kicks and are heavier than his normal legs).

Both of those likely need large amounts of dust and money to maintain and repair. Most villages don't have those kinds of resources and thus are lower tech compared to atlas and even vale. As for the A.I thing, unless told otherwise I'm going to say that penny is the only one of her kind. Plus I'm 90 percent sure that ironwoods group just put someone's aura into penny to act as her A.I as a test run for the aura transfer machine. why else would a robot need to look and act like a teenage girl?

Well in our world most places aren't filled with evil death machines that don't sleep, don't need to eat and hate everything that man has ever made. Plus someone has to maintain all those machines, you can't just send them back to home base every time one of their parts break when a giant nevermore is just going to chase it to smash it.
The thing about Grimm is that they don't give up. They'll just keep going and going, even when they stop attacking they're just waiting for one chance to smash your shit in. not to mention you need people to manage trade routes, caverns, manage safe havens for travelers and hunters and all those people need food so they can do their jobs. They can't just wait for some airdrop of food and supplies, not when their village's life span can be measured in months if not weeks thanks to the Grimm so they need to be able to grow their food locally.
So yes a farmer does have a place in remnant and as for the shovel and sunlight thing, this is the same series that made glowstick nunchucks a weapon a viable weapon. a shotgun shovel is the least weird weapon you could make
