Who is worst forced meme character and why is it currently Squirrel Girl?
>>
The art is bad
>>
>>78619737
Why does she literally look like a man?
What the fuck happened?
I've been European comics binging for like a year and a half now. I'm behind.
>>
>>78619737
Harely Quinn comes close
>>
>>78620643
Drawing female characters to look like men is empowering, you shitlord.
>>
>>78619737
It's sad that, looking back, this are probably some of the better looking panels in the entire series so far.
>>
>>78620643
Basically her artist doesn't want her to look like a complete sex bomb, which in of itself isn't a bad thing.

The bad thing is, her artist is horrible at drawing people.
>>
>>78620684
Harley Quinn isn't a "forced meme", she's just a meme.

A forced meme is when someone tries to keep making something popular when it isn't, Harley Quinn is rather popular, fat tumblr Squirrel Girl is not
>>
>>78619737
Deadpool is even more obnoxious and marketed way harder atm than her.

>swapping one extreme with another

That solves nothing.
I'm also kind of pissed about how the only solution to this "problem" is cutting off a woman's tits. Like tits are the exact problem.
Take one of her most famous pictures. She's got nice tits, good figure, cute face, etc, but she's not shaking her ass or doing anything overtly sexual at all.

Maybe I'm finding it weird as shit that attractiveness is so often mistaken for oversexualization these days. Where having even one good gene is somehow discriminate.

And if they wanted an intentionally unattractive superheroine for whatever agenda's sake, then why not just invent one? Marvel really has completely destroyed the bottom of its barrel hasn't it?
>>

Because she lives on earth. Mutants are allergic to air and live in space.

Squirrel Girl has always been an ugly bitch. I'm really tired of these people who claim to like her but don't know jackshit about the character.
>>
>>78619737
That's pretty cute, actually. Is this comic ongoing now?
>>
Making Squirrel Girl an actual character defeats the point of Squirrel Girl because she was MADE as a gag.

She's a longing reference to strange silver age heroes of yore, turning her into a meme that has nothing to do with that original intent just comes off feeling, well

Meme-y.
>>
>>78622754
>has always been an ugly bitch

I love how you guys never seem to understand how fluid comics are.
She's always been cute as fuck as well.
Just depends on the artist. In this case it's a fuckawful artist.
>>
>>78619737
>character is a funny in-joke in comics
>slowly gets posted more and more on the internet
>normies latch on to the joke and act like they were in on it all along
>character gains popularity, the in-joke becomes simplified to the characters most notable traits, all depth and complexity is lost
>recursively affects the comics books and the character becomes more cartoon-y and "Flanderized" to capitalize on this new popularity

First Deadpool, now Squirrel Girl, who's next?
>>
I feel this social justice war is being pushed to comics by shitty "artists" who want work. Am I alone here?
>>
>>78620708
>empowering
How do women benefit from men giving them power instead of them earning it the same way men did, through hard work and shrewdness?
>>
>>78622683
>attractiveness is so often mistaken for oversexualization these days
That's pretty much it.
SG is a joke character, but she's always been there in a form of reasonable presentation, and been semi-attractive.
After GG, everyone and their mother is bending over backwards to appease an audience that barely even exists.
Suddenly you have all of these "outspoken" members decrying some things that were just standard in comic books.
Trying to ground comics in a format that appeals to a broad spectrum isn't very good, but all any one wants anymore is money. Money and fame. It's telling when some creators are ashamed of past works because some autistic asshole or two shouts at them for leotards and the like.

The irony in trying to police someones creativity is astounding. The current SG is fugly for what reason? Oh right, because feminism.
Goddamnit.
>>
>>78622703
I find it kind of hilarious that Marvel is bending over mutant asses and fucking them without lube.

It's like they're ashamed of them.

>>
>>78622812
Characters should have consistent traits. You just want her to be cute because "MUH WAIFUS"
>>
>>78623191
>characters should have consistent traits

You're in the wrong source of entertainment if you want or expect consistency.

It's not the inconsistencies themselves but the reasoning behind these inconsistencies that are concerning.
>>
>>78623191
Thats a shit tier agruement.
The overall art isnt appealing in the least. Everyone looks the same and there isnt anything to tell them apart besides skin color and some height differences.
>>
>>78623222
I don't see what's so difficult to get right. Bruce Wayne is a handsome black-haired, blue eyed caucasian male, every artist gets that right. No reason Squirrel Girl can't be an ugly woman in all her appearances.
>>
>>78623307
>a character should be ugly because old comics made most people look ugly

Okay.
>>
>>78619737
There is an actually good drawfag right now who's out of a job because this talentless asshole has it, and all because that good drawfag had the audacity to draw someone who was pleasing to the eye. Never mind the skill involved in creating something pretty, he was labeled sexist for even making the attempt.
>>
>>78623307
Again, you're in the wrong fucking business. Go try getting entertained by a medium known for utilizing a consistent creative team. The comics industry changes writers/artists all the fucking time, which seems to be too much for you to handle.

Are you fucking serious right now? There were plenty of handsome men and beautiful women back in those days, do you even know waht you're talking about? Squirrel Girl was clearly drawn to be purposefuly ugly. She's a joke character, not waifu bait.
>>
>>78622754
>literally defending bad art

You are killing the comics industry.
>>
>>78623416
I just pointed out an example of consistency in comics, so I have no idea of what you're talking about.
>>
>>78623450
I'm not defending the art, I'm saying SG has always been supposed to be an ugly woman. She's literally a joke character, but, of course, since some of you made the cuter version your waifu that's the true version that should be preserved at all costs.
>>
>>78623444
>choosing intentionally lazy work as a template

This is inherently wrong. They could've made her look plain without resorting to drawing badly. And again the reasoning behind the artistic decisions in the modern case is both inexcusable and misguided.
>>
>>78623504
Doesn't hurt that the cuter version was in it more.

I'll bet you preferred the yellow daredevil suit because it came first.
>>
I don't get what Squirrel Girl as a character gets out of being indescribably ugly. I don't remember it ever being part of the character before but now it's made out to be a huge change for the better.

With the artist and writers actively defending her new less-than-stellar looks like it's incredibly important, it MUST be . But why isn't it mentioned in her background at all? I mean there's a reason Deadpool looks like he does and it's an important facet of the character.

Why give her the sea-hag makeover and then just leave it like an elephant in the room?
>>
>>78623515
Are you saying Steve Ditko half-assed his art and that's why she looks ugly? Are you fucking kidding me?
>>
>>78623543
That's completely different, one was a different costume and the others are her fucking facial figure and bodytype. What an absurd comparison.

Honestly that book would be great if they gave it to a decent artist. I don't remember any single book I've ever read which was FUN to read, but the art was so godawful that it completely turned me off from the entire book. This book has that.

If they had, say, Gurihiru doing the interiors, /co/ would unanimously love the book.

We're not going to get that.
We're going to get this. The men will continue to be ripped and attractive and dressed in mecha battle suits and unstable molecules and alien spandex. The women well get more and more drab and piratical and realistic.
Because let's be real, if things were actually equal across the board you'd see people trying to "fix" Superman by making him 30 pounds overweight and wearing sweatpants but that shit never happens to him, only to Supergirl and Powergirl

Then ten years from now everyone will be fumbling around trying to figure out why no one wants to by Black Widow toys (now with an achievable chest!) while Aquatic Attack Iron Man is flying off the shelves.

One "shitty" comic because you say so even though you've never even read it, rock solid logic there.

>Who gives a fuck about Batman? Even more meme-tier than SG.
Completely irrelevant to the discussion at hand and avoids my entire point. Beautiful.

>Because you're gay, anon. Just accept it.

>>
>>78624151
So it's literally because "MUH WAIFUS", got it.
>>
>>78624187
Alright, let's dissect your pathetic argument then.

>a character looks like something in an old, outdated comic so they should always look like that

You're fucking retarded.
>>
>>78622917

It's the most audacious members of any group, though, who end up garnering the most attention. In the reality we live in it's never been an issue how comic book characters are dressed, but you have these vocal AND retarded people who have decided that they do not like something and so EVERYONE needs to join in their dislike. Ice Man and Silver Surfer may have been running around in only briefs for decades now, but a WOMAN in a 1 piece leotard is offensive. Shit like Marvel hiring a pornographic artist to do an alternate cover suddenly becomes a major issue when in fact this art was fairly tame compared to the rest of his catalog.

People want to waive a banner for freedom/liberty but all they're doing is using a hot topic to push their personal agendas. Anita Sarkeesian does it to get paid, Jenner-defenders do it to push the queer acceptance (though not "acceptance", more preference or dominance). Society likes to treat everyone like special snowflakes until it creates a vacuum of commerce, so they're going to keep accepting it until people stop saying they are cool by letting their money talk.
>>
>>78624214
>I don't know what the word progression means

>>78624198
Even less reason to give a shit about his shitty art, then.
>>
>>78624243

It shouldn't be, but it's still a fact that Squirrel Girl was originally ugly, like how Tony Stark has black hair. It's been that way since his first appearance and it doesn't really matter, but if he became a blond then of course you'd raise an eyebrow especially if there was somebody on a Taiwanese puppet show message board fervently denying that Stark ever had black hair.

Comparing things to real life =/= thinking they're the same. The setting of Marvel and DC is obviously based on the real world, to a degree, so making comparisons isn't out of the question.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl completely misses that point but clearly so do you. Honestly, the one and maybe only person that's really done Squirrel Girl right outside of Ditko's origin issue is Dan Slott.

It terrifies me to think that you're probably talking about Kirby or Ditko or Swan's art. Masters of the craft and yet you probably think they're shitty just because you can't fap to krackle.

To think I'm witnessing the posts of a true, pure-bred pleb.
>>
>>78626499
No and no, although waifufags would disagree on that last point. Since comic books are meant to be READ I find the idea of "reading" a comic for the art to be quite disingenuous.

I'm pretty sure that's just an excuse for the artist being shit at drawing human faces in general

Actually, her one shot with Woody and Quantuam was decent enough. It's most likely Marvel wanting a more "quirky" style so SG has downs and making a monthly book has probably can't keep it up,.
>>
>>78631415
That's like asking why all the Capes have to fight criminals.

It wouldn't be a Cape comic if characters were given the pacing to develop a personality beyond what was established in the 40's.

They've ruined her personality compared to other iterations, additionally she's just not a character who should be centerstage.

She's a gag character, trying to give her an ongoing is retarded. She only works with an ensemble.

Also the art is fucking dogshit.
>>
>>78620806
I'd believe that if anyone in the comic looked half decent

Like, ok, SG has to be ugly, whatever, what's the excuse instead for Songbird on that one cover, who's "canonically" supposed to be good looking?
What's the reason for that black girl to be so ugly? People even thought she was supposed to be either a man in drag or a MtF because of how manly and squared she looks, to the point that the artist resorted to dye her hair red to remind the readers that she's a girl

I think Ms Marvel v3 is a "spunky and/or quirky female lead" comic done right - the main character isn't infallible, there are actual stakes, a good status quo, fun supporting cast and the artist goes against the grain of mainstream comic art without bollixing everything
>>

>>
>>78626106
I love that people have whined that we only don't like the new terribly-written Squirrel Girl because she's not "hot" anymore when there's actually been like a 10,00% increase in sexy art of her big fat jiggly dump-truck-sized ass.
>>
>>78634505
She doesn't even have a big ass, though. It's 100% informed, it certainly doesn't show in the comic. Especially considering her ass is supposed to look ridiculously big when she's incognito since she stuffs her tail into her pants to hide it, at least according to the writing, yet in the art she has the same flat ass as always.
>>
>>78623129
I wouldn't mind her beating Galactus :^)

Well, of course not; the art is as bad as the writing. Possibly worse.

However, the idea was an acorn that could be cultivated by the real heroes--horny internet artists--into a mighty oak tree made of gigantic ass.
>>
>>78619737
Squirrel Girl wouldn't be that bad if not for the shitty art. She's not really intended for our demographic, but you can't complain just because a comic was made for kids and not adults.

The point is a lot of these books have very post-adventure time writing. It's all so quirky and quipy and derivative.

Erica Moen can only draw tiny dot pupils on all her characters.
