Why does Marvel keep going to Kris Anka to redesign their characters? He's fucking terrible at it, the only decent redesign he's ever done is the Psylocke one, everything else is just awful.
>>
>>78608239
To be honest, they don't look bad, just bland.
>>
>>78608239
I dig the spidey but it needs the cape and to be less bulky
>>
>>78608239
I like his Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman
Storm and Spidey 2099 not so much
>>
I don't mind Ororo and Carol, but SW and 2099 are just fucking generic and bland.
Old 2099 was dope.
>>
Spider-Woman is the only bad redesign there.
>>
>>78608239
Because he's popular or reflects the tone they want. Ie bland over designed trash
>>
>>78608239
Marvel is being dictated by tumblr

What a cheap comicbook company
>>
>>78608239
I'm just disgusted by the fact that they keep getting him to redesign characters for books he's NOT EVEN ON.

Spider-Woman is terrible but the others are fine.

But I forgot how much I hated that first pass at the haircut. The updated one looks much better.
>>
>>78608402
Still looks a 16 year old boy.
>>
>>78608239
What is taste?
Does it differ?
Is it subjective?
>>
>>78608239

I actually really enjoy the Spider-Woman update as it suits the street-level detective vibe Jess has right now. Fir Avengers cape stuff? Then the old costume is better.

The old 2099 outfit will be back of course, they probably wanted a nice, obviously different variant for the All-New, All-Different push. Besides, gives Miguel an alt outfut for videogames now!
>>
I disagree.
>>
>>78608239
Spider Woman is just Asami with glasses
>>
>>78610950
kek. I just now noticed.
>>
>>78608239
fuck the new spiderman 2099
the old suit was awesome!
>>
>>78608336
>over designed
How? They're mostly very simple almost plain clothes.

Why shit on an already perfect design?
>>
>>78608239
Because they don't want you to realize it's a kid's book featuring characters and storylines from when your parents were kids in a sterilized package designed to be as inoffensive and sell as many toys as possible.
>>
>>78611665
He does the same lines for no reason shit Jim Lee does.

Compare >>78608402 to McKelvie's original design. There's no reason anyone would put seams there. It's random decoration.

>Redesigning Spiderman 2099

Fucking why? The original was fucking perfect. Spiderman 2099's original costume has to be one of the top 5 best costumes of all time.

Now, let's not get crazy.

I don't like that Storm look but it's not bad. All of those are pretty solid redesigns.

>>78612582

they're a call back to her Warbird outfit. so not random. other pics you can see the like ribs that are on the new costume too
>>
The new Spider-man 2099 looks like a weird Batman Beyond toy I had as a kid.

They're not random seams, but I don't think Warbird is/was a popular look.
>>
>>78608239
Because he makes feminist friendly designs.
They all look like shit. And Carol looks like a bull dyke.
>>
How come
Miles
Sam
Sam Wilson
Kamala
Squirrel girl
Thoster
Silk
Gwen
and Deadpool
Didn't get a redesign?
None of them have a better costume than Miguel
>>
>>78608239
All of these are good except for 2099 though.
>>
>>78608295
How the fuck do you like the Spider-Woman costume? It's just a jacket and yoga pants, part of this obnoxious trend of making costumes that are just barely costumes.
>>
>>78608402
She needs to grow her hair out and be a fun and interesting character again.

>>
>>78616551
There's having short hair and looking good (like Selina) and there's having short hair and looking like a dyke. Carol is the latter.
>>
>>78614063
Because they are popular not like spider-woman, Carol, Miguel and psylocke.
>>
>>78614063
Spider-Man (Miles) and Deadpool are the only other guys that are not in a new uniform.
>>
His redesigns don't seem too bad, but I think the thing about them is that they're approachable, so to speak.
That is, they're simple enough that amateur cosplayers can make the designs with little effort if they know where to shop around. Outfits that could be created in a month, rather than several months; outfits with few details that can ultimately be ignored, rather than outfits with details that require a careful hand and eye to pull off well.
>>
>>78616588
>having short hair and looking like a dyke. Carol is the latter.

What did lesbians ever do to you?
>>
>>78608239
Hipster Spier-Woman, terrible design.
>>
>>78616652
Nothing. She just doesn't look good with that hair. If she was gay I might accept it but she's still supposed to be straight, so the hairdo doesn't work.

What's so wrong with sexy female designs? This is coming from a guy that doesn't like hyper-sexual stuff but you know what? If a woman was seriously designing her own costume she'd choice style over substance and still want it to be sexy and show off that she's a female. That's how females dress themselves up in real life.

My dad's a cop and I've meet several female cop friends of his who still try to "look cute" even when they're on patrol for fucks sake.
>>
>>78616740
I've never seen a female cop trying to look cute, they all look like regular cops to me.
>>
>>78614063
Most of those are new and not established yet
>>
>>78616342

Superhero costume design is a lot like flag design, and there are five basic principles of flag design:

1. Keep it simple.
2. Use meaningful symbolism.
3. No more than 2-3 colors.
4. No lettering or words (not often a problem for costumes, but frequently a problem for flags).
5. Be distinctive, but be related.

Objectively speaking, these costumes fit those criteria. None use more than three colors (excluding Jess's undershirt, which isn't meant to be visible), they feature bold, clean lines and make good use of immediately identifiable symbolism that is distinctly their own but calls attention to their respective lineages. They're also clearly designed to be actual, functional pieces of clothing, which is an improvement over the formless body stockings that traditionally define superhero costumes.

That being said, there's a certain degree of flair that should also be present in superhero styling that isn't intrinsic to other sorts of design, and Anka's designs are a bit on the bland side in that regard.

At least he convinced them to keep Carol's sash instead of replacing it entirely with the belt.
>>
2099 is fine. Is the first future Spider-man suit that looks from the future.
The only problem is that he's actually stuck in the past.
>>
>>78608239
2099 looks more futuristic than his original costume jewelry
>>
>>78616740
According to feminists if you draw a fictional female characters with curves then that's sexist. Why? I don't know. But if real women want to strip half naked and run around the streets holding signs saying how slutty they are then that's empowering. Why? I don't know.

She's patient zero for Claremont bisexuality. It's like regular bisexuality, but contained entirely within subtext.
>>
>>78617277

Exactly that's the point I'm making here. My best guess at the why is because the priority for females is too be/feel attractive.

Comic/cartoon lady looks sexy, which makes the female jealous and insecure, so it needs to be eliminated.

Female takes off her clothes, using politics as an excuse to she feel sexy and attractive without making blatant that that's what she's going for.

That's my opening statement Your Honor.
>>
Anka is a great designer that gets shit for being practical over sexy.
He really doesn't give a shit about comics trends, he just does what feels right.
