the recobbled version
you can find it on youtube

>Some of the greatest animation ever made
>Interspersed with grainy storyboards literally fished out of the garbage.
Heartbreaking, tbqh.
What anon said. The recobbled cut is made up of what was finished along with some filler animation (a lot of pencil test level stuff) by the original animator himself. It was personally overseen by him and is the closest we'll ever get to his original vision.

Comparing it to the recobbled version is almost like watching two different movies
could someone explain the recobbled version?
was it incomplete originally?
Whats the name of the documentary about the film? Is it any good? (The doc i mean)

I watched workprint. It was fun and it's on Youtube.

Is there a reason why this is so well loved? I mean, it has brilliant visuals but the story itself is kind of meh and even if it was compete it really wouldn't have done much in terms of structure.the Cobbler is qt as fuck though

The film was never completed per se. Allied Filmmakers shit something out and changed most of the story and added different scenes, then Miramax released it and added more shit like the Thief's monologues.
The recobbled cut is basically just they recompiled what work they had to match it as close as to what Richard Williams wanted as they could. He wasn't actually involved in it.

It's called Persistence of Vision. Haven't seen it though. I'm sure it'd be interesting.

I think the appeal is the amount of work into it. The big draw is the quality of animation, and the fact that it took so long to make.

>[The Recobbled Cut] was personally overseen by [Richard Williams]
Source?

The Recobbled Cut of "The Thief and The Cobbler" is a fan-edit of the film comprised of footage of the movie from as many sources as possible—HD sources, SD sources, 35mm film transfers, soundtracks, scripts, and storyboards—to recreate the film as close to its original intended story as possible; the film was recut and edited down during production, resulting in a film far inferior to its original intent.
The fan editor, for those who care, is Garrett Gilchrist.
Ask about him in Red Letter Media threads; it's hilarious.

It was supposed to be Aladdin but like half a decade prior. And it's actually pretty funny.

Its an animator's masterpiece and it rightfully is. Visuals and animations are excellent.
That being said, his focus wasnt really on story and stuff

>decade
Fuck, I meant century
>>78595870
Unfortunately Miramax has claimed copyright over half the videos for the Recobbled cut.

Zigzag and the Thief.
They probably would've been better off just making the scenes with the Thief into a series of short films but whatever.

It's literally some of the best animation I've ever seen. The story is just a vehicle for the visual porn. When you go into it with the mindset it's supposed to be an animator's magnum opus, it becomes more enjoyable.
