You know, the BEST KIND of kid's movies
>Brave Little Toaster
>The Dark Crystal
>Black Cauldron
>Secret of NIMH
>Nightmare Before Christmas
>Return to Oz
>Coraline
>Watership Down
>Plague Dogs
>The Last Unicorn
Those are ones I remember from the top of my head, what are some other examples?
Would Labyrinth also make the list? Or is it just too Bowie for kids?
Felidae
Especially the part where the cat has a dream sequence of The Pope pantomiming all the dead cats saying how Natural Selection separates the weak from the genetically superior.

>kids films
>Watership Down
Well that explains why you are fucked up in the head

The novel was written based on stories Richard Adams told his children. I believe he said the novel is toned down from those too. Yes, it was made with the intention of kids to watch it.
It's also one of my favorite movies.

David Bowie is a treasure that must be shared with all ages.
I've yet to actually see Labyrinth, I've been wanting to check it out for years now. It definitely looks like a movie I would like.

Pan's Labyrinth?
Coraline.
>>78594834
Are you confusing the Del Toro Labyrinth film with the Labyrinth film that had David Bowie in it?
Pan's Labyrinth is a fantastic movie but it's rated R, so I probably wouldn't want my kids to see it.not until they're thirteen anyways [spoilers]

I had Coraline on the list.
Fantastic movie tho, speaking of Laika, I guess Paranorman could also be added to the list.

Not sure if it counts, but Flight of Dragons could probably make the list.
>Shore creatures that drive you insane with just the sounds they make
>Dragons eating other dragons' eggs
>Death prevalent throughout the whole story
>>78594986
Nah i know what both movies are. But Pan's Labyrinth can be seen as a mature kids' film like the ones we used to get in the 80s and 90s.

Never heard of it, looking at the poster, it looks like a really generic kid's movie but Brave Little Toaster did as well and I'm sure some of us know how that little treasure turned out to be!
I'll have to add it to my IMDB watchlist so I can remember to check it out sometime.
>>78595129
It's a pretty hard R with the bottle scene
>>78595129
Your probably right, Pan's Labyrinth is R rated but it can totally be viewed by older kids like, twelve being the youngest.

What's so dark about Brave Little Toaster? it was my favorite kid movie

Here's a taste of what to expect. The villain is voiced by none other than James Earl Jones, and he hams it up like no tomorrow for this role.

>Themes of suicide, loss, depression, abandonment, loneliness and hopelessness throughout the film, they were well done but still very noticeable
>The symbolism of the dying flower and the reacquiring theme of abandonment and loneliness
>Depressing songs like "Like a B-Movie" and "Worthless"
>Toaster's Nightmare
>The climax in the junkyard
Brave Little Toaster is a phenomenal movie, I'll reach the word limit trying to explain why I love it so much but it was very dark (one of the reasons why I love it so much).

>>78595341
Wow, that's a preview alright. The characters move like their in a CDI game but I'm invested nonetheless.

There was also the chop shop with the demented and mangled up appliances.
Coraline is pretty fucking amazing.
>>78594685
Not to mention the bloody cat mutilation.
Was Felidae ever intended to be for kids? I know people gave less of a shit back then but damn, Felidae was intense.
>>78594601
>too dark for kids
Fuck that shit.
>>78594601
>Kid's Movies considered too dark for kids
>none of those are considered too dark for kids except the two that aren't kids' movies
>>78596697
That's exactly how I feel.
I actually highly recommend that you show children these movies because their good movies that have dark themes but were made with children in mind which is awesome
>>78596746
So what movies that are targeted to children do you consider dark for kids? I openly asked what other films could be paired together.
