Rebels is a story about characters, with a central cast and storyline. It's not inherrently any better or worse than CW, not by design. I don't think it's nearly as good as some of the best parts of CW, but it's certainly stronger as a whole.
Because a lot of CW wasn't very good. Like the movie. Or the entire first season. Or the Mortis Arc. Or the final arc of the show.

i think it's clone wars had lucas okaying a lot of ideas they wanted to do and giving them some ideas on which aspects of star wars to explore compared to Disney holding episodes 4-6 hostage and not allowing them any freedom beyond morals of the week shit.
Which is why when Ahsoka episodes were great cause they have absolute freedom to do whatever they want while when dealing with the episode 4-6 content, they're restricted in every single way.
