>go back to
They never went away from.

"2D is dead" is a meme. Idiot.

Possibly.

There is hope for at least one. 'Dragon’s Lair' the movie:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dragon-s-lair-returns#/

Oh, and Don Bluth himself (also animator for 'The Land Before Time') said on film he WILL do it in his traditional art style on a video with 'Nostalgia Critic'
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5ug4ePqALs

BUT... It all depends if there is enough funding, as for it will be a more personal independent project.

Sadly I have high doubts of 2D ever being dominant again, but it can't be impossible.

Oh yeah.

but dragon's lair is such a lame franchise

This.

It's getting annoying how people confuse animated films with Disney and Dreamworks the same way they confuse comics with DC and Marvel.

It was a a simple story, to a very hard game based on fast actions, wit and memory.

But it was well animated and can easily be made a lot better with proper writing.

>>78574014
Yet you used a gif based on a show with a very complex recurring story.

Help us, Don Bluth.
You're our only hope.
>>
Well I know it's not /co/ related but the latest Dragon Ball movies show that if you have an established fan base or an appealing "something" 2D animation can still drag people. But yeah established fan base it's an important point in this pseudoargument I'm trying to make

it will be like stop motion, one person will make a amazing cel animation film then every one will

We can lay our hope up to Japanese animation. They are doing okay with their 2D anime. Although they also mixing it with CGI,only when needed.
>>
>>78574425
Japan in general still has a huge 2D animation scene.

... which is mostly because they're horrible at CGI but whatever.
>>
The Clone High creators mentioned that they still have plans to release a traditional movie to wrap the story up if The Lego Movie does well.

So I really hope they'll either confirm or deny the movie soon.

They are getting better at CGI https://youtu.be/5atQp9TQIPo
But for some reason their CGI featured film doesn't look better than their game cut scenes
https://youtu.be/xq7iLLFlerg

This bugs me. Their RPG have enough cutscenes to be a film on their own and it looks pretty good. How can they suck so bad on making CGI films? Are all the talents sucked by the game industry leaving only the mediocre CGI animators for their films?
>>

But for some reason their CGI featured film doesn't look better than their game cut scenes... from 10 years ago!

forgot to add the last part.

2D is only dead in the US

Europe and Asia are still rocking the 2D.
>>
>>78578947
>>78578958
I would totally watch a movie in the style of the CGI cut scenes from Final Fantasy Tactics: The war of the lions https://youtu.be/lrENuxiu8MU

No one wants to compete with Disney-Pixar and Disney does not want to go back to traditional animation because their last half-dozen flops have left them superstitious.

You don't see non-theatrical cartoons being dominated by CGI; it's hard to imagine theatrical cartoons are as stigmatized as Disney believes.
>>
2D is still doing fine overseas, it's just the US market that's not doing good. One of three things needs to happen for it to be revived here.

>General public regains interest in traditional animation, either through a breakout movie or shifting interests in general.
>Pixar and DreamWorks go under, breaking their monopoly on animated films and allowing traditional animation to be competitive again.
>Animated films in general become more competitive, with Pixar and DreamWorks still around, but enough other companies that 2D films become viable competition again.

All of these three things are arguably happening right now, and even if they aren't at least one of them is ultimately inevitable. Things can't stay static forever.
