I tried watching the first episode.
When Marco suddenly started doing Karate I deleted the file and never looked back. Long blonde hair girls are qt, but i'm not suffering all this fucking cringe on the hope that it gets better.
This version of Star reminds me of the girl I lost my virginity to, it's the only real reason I watch the show
I enjoyed the first few episodes but still didn't feel too strongly about the show at first, but by the middle of the season I became more interested and now I really love it. It has some problems with pacing and some attempts at humor don't work, but overall there are a lot of things about it that work for me and cancel those out (and season 2 has the chance to improve the flaws).
Unfortunately a lot of anons here either wrote it off before it aired or think if you like it you're a waifufag/pedo, but it seems to have a positive reception on the whole.

It's not that he knows Karate. It's how everyone's acting. All the dialogue seems so stilted and the humor never connects, and it just... it's that aggravating level of bad, it was so close to watchable, but the whole thing is too janky and a cluttered mess to watch. Marco's emotional state has no direction, the writing on the villains screams committee whitewashing, and Star's just not cute enough to make me want to keep going. And i hear this episode with a decapitated unicorn's even worse.

I've noticed these faults too. Something made me keep watching, but if it continues like this in season 2 I don't think i'll stick around for long.
The show features both an amazing female lead and an amazing male sidekick. If everything else was pure shit this would still be enough to keep the show up and running. It wins on both ends - you have a beautiful warrior princess that is actually nice and feminine on one side and a normal, likeable guy who is not a retard/total wimp on the other. It took us decades to get there but here we are.

Overall meh. Star is annoying as fuck snd her voice is terrible. Marco is a betafag but the show tries WAY TOO HARD to make him useful. The rest of the cast is shit. Humor is awful. Animation is hit and miss. The only people praising it are waifufags and pedos.

Still too early for anyone not on the crew to judge the next season so far, given that we haven't even seen any promotional shit for it yet.
But from all those plots it already feels like the way they end up handling this shit will be either surprisingly good or just disappointing for everyone.

Completely agreed. It's refreshing to not have the exact same tunes recurring in every episode or in standard situations (some characters have themes, but they mix those up and you don't hear them all the time), and what music there is seems to have a lot of thought put into it if you read the guy's comments about it.
What's funny is that back when 4Kids was a huge thing, anime fans used to complain about music being added into dubs when the original soundtrack was silent in certain scenes, and would ask if execs thought American kids really needed to have constant music or they'd lose interest. Turns out that view might actually be right judging by how many adults seem to find the lack of music in Star distracting.

you're still not getting the picture. the reason these are valid criticisms is because it's familiar. just like with pic related above, it was clear that this protag was going to be the same randumb kind of character we've seen before (mabel) with the weird offbeat jokes similar to adventure time. and the visual gags are very active reminiscent of Gumball. you can call it a cool combination but *I* see it as pandering. pandery shows do exist. Uncle Grampa everyone? even MLP is going down that path, i don't even catch up with the episodes unless i'm really really bored. i don't want the creators to wink at me every other minute so i can keep watching, i want them to do their own thing so i can be invested by curiosity. this is how Adventure Time and MLP lost me, although AT sometimes still delivers.
