It wasn't as goofy as the prior issue, so I didn't enjoy it as much. I kind of wanted a league of good and evil of MMA supers.

Not sure what you mean by the last issue being "goofy".
This issue was more reflective and gave us the backstory, plus the intro on most of the Cage Hero players.
Neat how Rider picks up on bluntly saying "it's your Destiny" has a better change of scaring off rather than enticing, though.
As before, I positively love the art in this series, so another kudos to the illustrator!
Also, seems Nemoto only really has the basics down on English, which makes sense. Wonder if the same holds true for Marco?

While I do like how our hero is there to speak realistically to people who are just being introduced to all the weird shit, it's weird shit in a silly premise.
I kind of like it's bold honesty with it. It reminds me of the best B-Movies of the 50s. Sure, they're bad, but there's an earnest charm to them and the creativity behind it shines through.
Though, again, I would have preferred a league where they were off to face a rival team rather than "Team of new recruits vs. evil guy + mooks."

Mind, this is the second in an a 4 issue mini, if that helps. Also, keep in mind that the first issue had that crash-landing war flashback in it that leads into the exposition of this issue.
I agree that I appreciate the lampshade hanging from Ryder. It's enough to be lightheartedly funny, but not too much as to feel like it's "betraying" the premise. It also makes sense as a reflection of Ryder's own feelings on the matter.

I think I wanted something a little more over the top. Like, I thought this was basically G.I. Joe vs. Cobra on the 80s cartoon level, but with super powered MMA tournaments to settle things, and each side has steep recruiting tactics.
Maybe it's just the lack of Super-powered MMA tourneys.
