So what did you guys think of Dial H? I thought it was confusing as hell but pretty entertaining, though the ending was kinda vague.
>>
Best shit to come out of the nu52
Its sad that one can feel Mieville had ideas for like 50 issues but they were all cut short.
>>
>>78537742
It definitely seemed like it could've gone much longer. Also when Nelson dialed the Flash, did Barry temporarily lose his powers in his series?
>>
>>78537869
Yeah, plus I think Nelson Flash showed up on Flash too.
>>
>>78538075
Oh sweet, I'll check it out. Also I've been looking around for Dial E, it didn't come with the deluxe edition I bought unfortunately.
>>
>>78538156
>it didn't come with the deluxe edition I bought unfortunately.
Really?

It's the perfect fucking ending.
>>
>>78538472
Dial E was a JLA tie in, strange but the DC editors were strange back then.
>>
>>78538156
Could've sworn the Deluxe Edition collected that issue.
>>
It was great, so it had to die.
>>
>>78538667
I'm sure that it was included
>>
reminder mieville was supposed to do a swamp thing run of about 15 issues

we need more literature types on comics
>>
>>78538776
He'd be perfect on Doom Patrol
>>
>>78537742
>Its sad that one can feel Mieville had ideas for like 50 issues but they were all cut short.

It probably would've made it longer if Dial H had stayed a Vertigo title like they planned.
>>
near the end the pacing speeds up really fast but it's still good
should've gotten like 5 extra issues
>>
>>78538156
I have the deluxe and it's in it
>>
>>78538815
Yeah, a bit more time dimension hopping was clearly planned but then we have that one issue where it sums up about 5 issues worth of going ons.

but Dial E was the definition of sticking the landing.
Based Rescue Jack/Jill
>>
>>78537645
It introduced me to China Mieville's novels, so it has that going for it. It's definitely worth reading, easily one of the best books out of the New 52.
>>
>>78538747>>78538840
Is it the one where Roxie appears as Rescue Jill in the end? If so sorry for making that mistake, I was still confused while reading it. >>78538766
>>78538747
>>
>>78537645
isn't that like the spiritual ancestor of Ben 10?
>>
this issue is one of the best dc comics i have ever read
>>
>>78538864
I don't read much fantasy/science fiction (I'm a full on /lit/ guy) outside of comics but mieville's books are solid
>>
>>78538886
Yeah that's the one.
Although the absence of the mask makes it a tad unclear that it is Roxie or that Nelson actually created a hero archetype of his own
>>
>>78537869

The same month the Flash issue had Barry lose his powers in the middle of a jailbreak with the Rogues and he has to use the Rogues' weapons to try and stop it.

It was a really fun way of dealing with the continuity.

ok but this is the best panel
>>
>>78538944

That was pretty great.

But the pages where Boy Chimney got introduced in the first issue were fucking amazing
>>
>>78537645
I just think it's funny that if Nelson had been a chick people would be deriding this book for being "tumblr"
>>
>>78539083
No, he'd have to be chick and then change the name to DialHForHashtag.
Which is a real thing. Search it up.
>>
>>78538814
Yeah, Vertigo series last long these days.
>>
>>78539114
That's a different thing, I'm talking about having a fat person as a protagonist.
>>
>>78539043
Oh yes, that was fantastic.
Nelson just dialing different 4 number combos and then the booth exploding.

>>78539034
Top tier

>>78539125
have you actually read it?
>>
>>78539125
Well, the thing is, the book highlights just how unhealthy Nelson is. If they were to completely overlook that fact with a "female" Nelson, I could see bitching being valid.
>>
>>78537645
If not for Demon Knights, this would be my favorite new series from the New 52...
>>
>>78539205

Demon Knights started great, started to lose steam, and then didn't really recover after Cornell left.

Dial H was fantastic all the way through.
>>
It was so good the ending (or maybe it was the penultimate issues) were all about ideas vs copyright and how pirates are saving ideas

it was the whole bit with the wars across different universes

also their interpretation of the multiverse was fantastic, I wish we got more appearances of all those heroes.
>>
>>78539205
Demon knights was extremely overrated.
>>
>>78538887
>isn't that like the spiritual ancestor of Ben 10?
The final issue (Dial E) includes characters named Ben and Gwenn
>>
Can someone explain the meaning of Open window man talking with the chalk drawing boy? I know it was a reference to Batman but that's it. also electro-cutie looked so damn good
>>
>>78539579
It's pretty simple.
They're both Batmen, but due to Open Window Man's positive influence and mentorship Chalk Boy is able to move past his grief in a more natural way.
>>
>>78538887
If anything it would be the other way around. Dial H For Hero used to be an old silver age property.

>>78537645
Please tell me other people saw this too.
>>
>>78539606
Oh ok, but the chalk boy doesn't become Batman does he? He rejects window man's drawing of the bat cave.
>>
>>78539636
Of course not.
Open Window Man is able to, albeit incidentally, help steer him away from that path.
Like in the beginning of the issue he tries to help the boy by futilely trying to stop the chalk parents from getting murdered...but now he ends up doing it in another way altogether.
>>
>>78539636

That was anons point. All the training and cool toys and the Bat Cave didn't make the kid into a superhero, he had to choose that path himself. Being a superhero is about internal motivation, not special powers or fancy gadgets.
>>
>>78539677
>>78539734
OK thanks guys, I'm dumb when it comes to analyzing like. Or just dumb in general actually.
>>
>>78539442
Their multiverse was amazing. I'm kinda hoping Grant Morrison would include them in multiversity depending if he wrote them good.
>>
>>78539767

Nah, it's cool. If it weren't for questions like that we wouldn't have much of a thread.

>>78539793

Well anons DID point out when the Map of the Mutliverse was released that the center makes the whole thing look an awful lot like a dial...
>>
>>78539805
OK, one other question. If I'm correct, the green dude working with Ex Nihilo, his species herd whatever the Abyss was made out of, right? And Ex Nihilo was not working for the Canadian government?
>>
>>78539877
Well, from what I remember, the only one working with the Canadians was the Centipede.
>>
>>78539614
That's what he meant by Dial H being the ANCESTOR
>>
>>78539124
Hey Karen Berger was still on board when Dial H was being published
>>
>>78537645
It really felt like pre-Vertigo Karen Berger-edited weirdness (Like Morrison's Animal Man and Doom Patrol) The Dark line was a pretty good part of the nu52 (except for JL Dark which sucked monkey balls)
>>
>>78540249
Oops, I instinctively read the anons post as "spiritual successor".
>>
>>78540503
That's okay. Ben10 is a shameless rip-off anyways, designed to sell toys and nothing else.
>>
The Flash "crossover" was one of the best uses of a shared universe in recent years.
>>
>>78541280
Definitely seemed like a very "Morrison" thing to do.
>>
>>78538944
it's pretty sappy, but god do I love this page.
>>
>>78541280
I used to love these minor crossovers back in the day when both Marvel & DC had good editors who were paying attention.
>>
>>78541449
Yeah, but it's sappy in a particular way.
When a good series gives it's thesis right out in the open and unashamed..it's too good.
>>
>>78537645
It's really good. Great concepts, great villain, good unconventional characters. Issue #13 was one of the best singles of the year it came out.
>>
>>78539579
Open Window Man is a parallel universe version of Batman who, instead of seeing a bat smash through the window, just saw an open window.

Chalk boy was his universe's Batman but didn't become Batman
