Ever read an horror comic that got you actually spooped? I haven't, so tell me the name of the one that made you spoop your pants.
>>
Even with movies and video games horror does nothing for me, well beside body horror to gross me out. Jump "scares" is more of a reflex than actually being scare. If you see a cute kitten being launch at your face you would fucking move out of the way right? Yet at the same time can you really say you are scare of the cute kitten? That my logic for jump scares anyway.

I do have one fear and that is being chased. Not necessary scare of the thing chasing me but the chase itself and the thing not stopping until I am caught/killed. Final Destination type stuff basically though a physical form is good too if it can't be stopped and even better if it can't been fully seen. Most horror movies and such crap out as soon you see the shit puppet/makeup/CGI of the monster. Remove all of the fear as you know what it is and often it isn't even half as scary as you thought it would be.

I wish I could enjoy horror, I really do but everything I have seen may as well been a shit copypasta from /x/ to me.
>>
Gotham By Midnight #1 had me on pins and needles reading it for the first time.
It's what got me into the horror genre.
>>
>>78528102
Have you seen It Follows?
>>
>>78527938
It really varies with me. Most horror comics don't really freak me out in the moment, but every so often, usually when I'm home alone or in the dark, one of them will hit me and freak me out a bit. Most horror comics that manage to frighten me do more through atmosphere or art. Jocks art in Wytches, for example, makes my skin crawl. Anything aquatic generally gets me too. Funnily enough Nailbiter, which is nominally a horror comic but not one that I usually just read because I like the story, is one that actually scares me when I least expect it. I'll be opening up at work early in the morning and I'll get the weird sensation that one of the killers is going to be in the shop with me, standing at the top of the stairs.

4-part series of novels that mirror the canterbury tales set in the far future

won't say much as to not ruin it but one of the main plot points is around a machine creature that is like a demigod and targets certain people throughout time to torture/kill them for unknown reasons
>>
>>78528472
Care to explain why it is shit. You are free to your own opinion but often most people find movies to be shit because they either don't understand it (example being The Cabin in the Woods was a parody making fun of horror movies. The shaking force was even you the viewer getting upset) or due to personal reasons as I have a friend who literally hate bad ending to the point to calling the whole movie shit over it. He watch movies to escape from reality not to be reminded of it, at least that was his excuse.

Sorry but just saying something is shit won't cut it for me. You may as well be my friend who hate bad endings where I personally love them if they are done right.
>>
>>78528451
It's not really that great. Certainly not scary. There's a literally edgy Darth Vader following people around, sometimes skewering them for unknown reasons. It's more a mystery figure than a horror character.

First book is OK but it really goes off the rails after that. Dan Simmons does a lot of the time, unfortunately.

That said, he does have some pretty damn good horror books. I'd recommend The Terror, Summer of Night, Children of Night, and Song of Kali.

I was a kid when I read pic related, maybe 7 or so.
The story at the bottom of the cover was the one that creeped me out the most, of the 3 stories in it. Basically, without too many spoilers, the guy on the bottom of the cover would get a hint of an apple perfume just before bad shit would happen. He would also catch glimpses of a dead relative.
The comic was one of my earliest experiences with horror and it didn't help that I had a fertile imagination and would sleepwalk. One of my personal favorite comics ever.

Not guy you're replying to. Personally, aside from the first scene where the lead is tied to a chair, I didn't feel like there was much tension in the film and that the the characters of the film made some stupidly bad decisions. It's been a while since I've seen it but I distinctly remember thinking "why would he/she do that, thats a terrible solution" multiple times.

Babadook was better, but it went downhill towards the end as well. Competent horror films are few and far between.
>>
>>78532193
Deborah Logan was better than babadook. I hated how babadook handled the monster/ending and loved how Logan handled it. It Follows had some flaws in logic for sure but the soundtrack and acting made up for it.

When I was about 9, I read one of Moore's Swamp Thing issues. I remember being absolutely scared out of my skin when I saw this white monkey ghost thing, I can't remember what it was called, but it gave me nightmares.
>>

Last year's Halloween someone storytimed a comic version of Clive Barker's Rawhead Rex. Shit's fucking unsettling in bits. My stomach turned a bit when he bit his first victim in half, a little girl.
>>
>>78530097
That was a good story too. Kind of sad from what I remember, it's been a long time since I read this. IIRC the story goes like this:
>Bert was the carousel operator at an amusement park.
>loved kids, none of his own. Just likes seeing people happy.
>some people treated him like shit.
>one day he was treated pretty poorly and did some drinking.
>group of kids snuck into park.
>he catches em but says frig it and puts the carousel on for them.
>one of the kids has never grabbed the golden ring
>Uncle Bert leaves the carousel on
>everyone is having a blast and enjoying life
>kid finally gets ahold of a gold ring
>Uncle Bert tells everyone it's time to go now (been going almost to sunrise).
>smiles all around
>kids get caught on way out.
>kids tell what happened.
>park worker goes to talk/yell at Uncle Bert.
>Uncle Bert had been dead in a chair for hours.

I've recently become a semi regular /co/ lurker. It's pretty good here, I've been able to check out comics I never would have otherwise (like Lilith, or old Spider Man, or even political cartoons and Slylock.), great variety compared to other sites out there. And the SJW bullshit is to a minimum, looking at you Comics Alliance (you used to be so good).

Anyways, as a thanks I'm going to look for this issue over the next few weeks, scan it and story time it for you all.
>>
>>78532123
For anybody who doesn't know, the artist is Junji Ito. I recommend Uzumaki and Gyo.
>>
>>78532879
I love Locke & Key. Its amazing, however that comic proved to me that comics can't be scary. They can make you feel uneasy but it just can't cross into the true fear area. Now a good movie or TV show could take some things in locke n key and make them truly scary. Then again I'm also a cynical ass who doesn't get scared that easily.
>>
>>78532123

Some of his pages are GOAT but I've always felt that he doesn't know how to end a story. His comics don't end, they just sort of stop. And he should be like Ligotti or Aickman, making things weird and leaving them like that. Yet he strives more for trying to find closure and offer some sort of explanation.
>>
>>78535681

Ligotti, I think last year on halloween someone storytimed one of his comics, about a guy who finds a cult of clowns in a small town. 3spooky5me.

>>
>>78535628
There was one page with the well which was scary in that volume, I think - that's all I'd actually count though. I don't think I've ever seen a TV show that's pushed things into "true fear" either, but I've definitely seen it in film and heard it in music. Read it in books as well, but that was when I was a kid and a right pussy.

Not that poster. But by the third act the whole Babadook as metaphor bit was so opaque and heavy handed that the movie lost much of its initial punch. Allegories work when they aren't so straight forward. Still wonderful first 2/3.

I liked Deborah Logan primarily because of the performances and the restraint of the filmmakers that built up the ending. It was a rare case of skillful execution overpowering the boredom I typically feel from the well-traveled found footage genre.

Hellstar Remina and Gyo had definite endings; they're not the only ones either. He does sudden conclusions a lot, but he can end a story traditionally when he feels up to it.

I don't know, the part before the happy ending, where the love interest commits suicide and then the two best friends die made me contemplate life and death for a few good days. You expect certain people in these books to come out fine because THEY didn't do anything wrong, the other people did, and when they suffer, it's like...life is just fucked up.

Like with the pimple one. He just said "Okay, what's the most disgusting thing I can think of... Someone with a face that's nothing but pimples popping all of them over someone's face! Now how can I get there?"

Or "What's creepy... claustrophobia? Body horror? Sure, how do I make that happen?"

It makes for some striking images, but weakish and strange stories.
