The red Venom is just Flash when he was on the Thunderbolts.
The symbiote helped Kletus survive space and some company brought him back to earth to make money off his symbiote. Didn't go well for them. Really great comic though, it was a mini series which Carnage USA was the sequel to.
Flash was offered to join the Guardians of the Galaxy by Tony Stark, to be their Earth representative or some bull like that, and then they found the planet of the symbiotes where they "purified" his symbiote. And now he's doing what symbiotes (called klyntar) are meant to do, be AGENTS OF THE COSMOS (AKA Green Lanterns)
And Crime Master forced the Toxin symbiote onto Eddie. He's tracking down Carnage right now after a run in with Flash.

I was always under the impression that the way it was supposed to work, was that regardless of how you felt, you just felt the pain you had caused your victims. None of that "didn't care lol" bullshit.
