Its more along the lines that ultron, the nyc incident, hulk tearing apart the city fighting abom, hulking tearing apart africa fighting hulkbuster, hydra vs cap shenanigans fightin and blowin up hellicarriers, IM vs hammer drones in public, and avengers vs ultron drones were the catalyst. The incident vs Crossbones and colateral damage is just the final straw with the super hero shenanigans. I think its Scarlet Witch who rapes Iron Man and War Machine hard, after Vision massively fucks up by using the Mind Gem on her and unlocking a ton of Chaos Magic awesomeness and overloading her emotions to fucked up levels. Iron Man vs Scarlet Witch has to happen because its one of the worst most poisonous relationships in the Avengers, and it's a neat way to show mystic power vs tech, so people are pumped for Doc Strange.
The hit Rhodey took was probably intended for the Manlet.

While I don't think its likely at all, I actually wouldn't be apposed to Sharon doing so. Sharon is a great character in the movie, who really should have gotten more screen time in Winter Soldier and VanCamp is a great actress.

Yeah, I really feel like people are overlooking how good the character work was in that movie. Widow was finally good for once, Falcon was great, Fury finally felt like he was doing something in these movies.
Their dynamics with Cap were also nice, especially the friendship between Cap and Widow. I was skeptical when I heard she was gonna be in the movie, but damn they made it work. The "good spy/bad spy" thing she had with Cap was really nice and I'm glad they didn't go for the predictable romance route with them. Loved the car scene and the one in Sam's apartment. I was pretty damn disappointed when Whedon ignored their friendship in AoU in favor of the Banner romance and Stark bickering.
