Peeplops IS endearing, it's just funny to watch him get shit on. All he wants is to share the most delicious chicken in the wasteland with his best bros. Also he wants some best bros. His quest is what endears him to the reader, and when he gets shit on we laugh because he's already found what he's looking for and just doesn't know it. You know, kinda.
Man I love It Hurts. The only thing that disappointed me so far was the Aurora and Pasq reunite / breakup. I get the fact that the twist was oh shit nothing happened, but I still felt like that should have been a huge shit storm, not something Poop could have defused.
That said, the Principal Battle was fucking amazing, so it goes both ways I suppose.

Yeah Gob's admitted he got too scared of his own success and went with the "safe" option of defusing the whole thing with a dumb joke. He really did a number with that prayer a couple pages back, though, so I think he's gained enough confidence to have a genuinely heartfelt moment without letting the humor derail it. It's still there and Pasqualo is cracking jokes the whole time, but it's used to demonstrate that crippling sense of shame for existing, that he HAS to joke to make himself tolerable to anyone.
I'm mostly just glad Gob is taking big risks again and changing shit up. I was worried we were going to stay in shounen adventure mode forever where the arcs are self contained and the status quo is God.

I didn't know he said that, but it makes sense in retrospect. But the intermission is really a step in the right direction. I mean, its safe to say that a large portion of the fan base got hooked on the #100 twist, so Gob should feel comfortable with big risks and shake ups - we're all in for the wild ride. For me at least, the shenanigans and shit I love to death, but its the oh shit moments and big reveals that keep me reading. That's why the intermission and this time skip are all A+ shit in my book.
