It is only lightly implied that she died, and it's actually possible that she didn't. The only hint we ever got that maybe the cold embrace of death took her away is when we found out in the fucking OVA episodes that he's a demigod and outlived her. Note that Luis would have to somehow be unaware of mortals dying due to old age in order for this explanation to work, as the entire reason he treats Kerub like shit is because Lou "left", and he does not know why, and so he blames Kerub.

Kerub is one of Ecaflp's sons (half god). So are his brothers Atcham and Ush (though ush is from a different litter than Atcham and Kerub).
Joris has a very long life expectancy (appears in both series which are separated by several centuries) from an undetermined origin (dragon blood suspected but not confirmed)
Atcham and Kerub appear in the OVAs, so they, too, have a supernatural life expectancy of some sort, though many suspect they in fact have regular lifespans but they do reincarnate as their own selves, rather than in completely new identities like regular souls. Wether this is specific to Ecaflips' children (playing on the 9 lives of cats trope) or common to all demigods is unknown.
It is also suspected that Joris adopts and raises Kerub's and Atcham's new incarnations at some point, hence why they call him "dad" in the OVAs.

No, but I and others have always found that theory rather... dumb, for lack of a better word. There is nothing to suggest that Ecaflip died, but one tenuous piece of "evidence" that he is alive by the time Joris is born is how the Unikron horn disappears in that one episode after Joris mentions that Kerub's promise should mean that Ecaflip gets to keep the horn (quoting from memory here). Ergo, the viewer can assume that Ecaflip is still out there and takes the horn from Kerub at the worst possible moment.
Additionally, considering the Brotherhood of the Forgotten's motivations, I doubt Ush would have been so disinterested in Joris during the Wakfu OVA's if he were Ecaflip's reincarnation.
Lastly, various spoilers from the movie do suggest a connection with Dragons and/or the Dofus rather than Ecaflip. Joris also never shows any signs of particular luck or felinity.

- While the scene of her departure in episode 2 could be a big metaphor, it seems to me they would have been a lot more vague if she had died. As it is, they both looked young when she left, and she took suitcases with her. If she died of anything, I doubt it was old age (unless she died after that, in which case Kerub probably doesn't know either).
- I think it would justify Kerub's growth in maturity by the time of the series better than her just dying.
