At one point she was talking to a publisher about printing the book but that fell apart (due to them being unreasonable if I remember correctly). There always seems to have been an assumption in the community that the swearing edits were related to the potential publisher but I thought Michelle confirmed otherwise later on (or maybe I'm going nuts...)
If I'm remembering correctly it was more to do with what fit the characters. E.g it made Wrathia seem petty/stupid stooping to say 'fuk u ava u fat bitch' and that's not really her character - 'die in a fire ava ire' fits her personality better.

That's pretty much on the nose for what Ava's Demon is. A teenage girls wishfulment story. The plot is a sad girl, Ava has no friends or real goals and no one understands her sad pitiful life so she kinda sucks and is sad in space-highschool and shit. But it's okay, because it's actually a demon ghost's fault so she doesn't REALLY suck, she was just held back from reaching her full potential and living a happy life. Once she makes a deal with the ghost-demon-alien that tormented her she's suddenly really important and powerful and can turn into a scary lava breathing demon when she needs to to fight evil space mormons and the goal of her mission as well as the story is for to defeat Space Jesus.
That's the plot summed up for you. If you think that's juvenile, it's only what's offered up and I cannot say anything more.

The plot IS about making pacts with demons, but trust me it's not what you think. If you just go ahead and read it you'll be pleasantly surprised how beautifully the comic subverts your expectations. It does have a lot of unanswered questions, and that holds most of the appeal. I was always a sucker for "what happens next?", even if what I was reading is completely worthless. That's my fault.

The thing is, comics like QC/LICD/etc prove that if you can maintain a regular update schedule people will be willing to put up with mediocrity and keep reading out of habit. I think in order for a comic to survive a hiatus, it has to be good AND have been around long enough to have collected enough of a fanbase so that people stay attached enough to remember to come back.

I like erfworld too, but I don't think they are exactly hurting for anything. They just had a successful kickstarter, and they make like 11k a month, WITHOUT going through patreon.
I'm glad Xin's back, too. I'm sure it was at least partly the instinctual "this is different, it sucks", but I really wasn't much of a fan of Hahn's art, especially compared to Jamie and Xin.

Some of them were actually for the better. Changing Wrathia's messages to Ava from boring generic shit like "ava u fat bitch" to "die in a fire, Ava Ire" helped show some actual personality and her mischievous side rather than just being an angry spoop.
