What are your contenders for your favorite comic
Love & Rockets and/or Peanuts
This is like an impossible question for me to answer regardless of media. With films and books, there are so many things that are my favourites in different ways that I don't think i can have just one. With comics, I don't think there's a single comic I've ever read that was good enough to be called a favourite.

This post made me feel bad in some way about comics.
I feel like I mostly read comicbooks as pretty picture books with cool costumes. Even indie comics feel like "gosh if I wanted an actual good story I'd just read a fucking book, I guess". Like a timewasting tool with nice designs.
Anyone else feel that way?

No.

I guess I should give these a try, then.
> OPTIC NERVE > GHOST WORLD
Ghost World was aggressively quirky.

I don't know why you would compare Optic Nerve to Ghost World.
Like, if I need to make a Ghost World comparison, I would try:
Wilson > Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron > Pussey > Ice Haven > Ghost World > LLoyd Llewellyn
I need to read more Clowes.
Love and Rockets
Hellboy is in second

Wouldn't the more appropriate comparison be Optic Nerve to Eightball? An entire series to a single story seems a bit much.
Underwater welder, definitely. Close second would be maus
