The only bad thing that I see here is that Giffen seems to be aping Kirkman's writing style by having sudden deaths that cut off established plotlines, leaving them unresolved in perpetuity.
That said, this is a character driven book, and the characters are all great, and have been great. Firestorm and Flash were barely characters at all, so they're not being mourned, Superman and Batman will both drive pathos while Bruce being revealed to have not been killed will rally the team together at a moment of crisis, and Hal was dying anyway, so...
I see what Giffen's doing, and he's doing it well. I just wish that it didn't resemble Walking Dead in the doing.

I'd say the dropping is worst than what Kirk does. The way Giffen is going about it just screams please buy me.
In Invincible plot points may slide into the background (future where mark leaves earth, aliens who helped the reality hopping guy) but they don't just get dropped like a hot potato. They either come back later to fuck everything up or aren't immediate threats that must be solved now.
With WD Kirk has forced the book into a slice of death zombie book where the plot hits the exact same cycle over and over. It becomes tedious especially where there are so many things he could do with the plot, but there is some build up and not complete fuck yous to the status quo.
Now look at 3k1. We've had what now? 3 time skips where we only caught up with what was going on by flashbacks and explanations. Interesting plot points that would have let the book stand out thrown away for not future JLI hijinx. Can you imagine the shit storm that would have happened if viltermite war or prison arc ended in flashbacks? Kirk would have been called a complete and utter hack (well more so).
