The violence in Invincible is only ever used to highlight how out of control and dangerous the Viltrumites (or a sinister criminal or government group) are so the efforts to genocide them and fear of letting them breed even a little are justified.
Thragg just literally came from demonstrating how big of a problem one desperate and derange Viltrumite can be if determined. He not only rapidly bred a bunch of halflings to serve as his meat-shield army but there viciously fought Battle Beast for days on end to make sure he never left with this information, or his life, to threaten his plan.

Honestly after reading the whole series myself it's really not super edgy but the bigger fights like this are pretty much going to end like this which is fine with me most comics show punch I'm down effect with super powers while invincible shows what two super powered beings can do to each other.

He is a nearly immortal warrior whose sole purpose was to fight until he couldn't fight no more, basically like a true warrior. For god know how many years he traveled the cosmos in search of a worthy opponent to kill him, each time facing disappointment as his most recent challenger laid dead before him. He couldn't kill himself ( de facto defeating himself) because it is a cowardly and dishonorable thing to do, and those are among the most important thing of a true warrior.
