Gravity Falls seem to be forgetting most of its plot elements as the ending approaching

Korra was just plain incompetent

How's Steven Universe doing?

Pretty much every episode in SU recently follows right after the other.

I'll take a good episodic cartoon or series over a bad serial one.

You should go watch Teddy Ruxpin. That's an 80s toy cartoon yet it manages to have a continuous plot from the first episode to the last, with lots of world building, as well as mysteries encountered and subsequently revealed along the way.
>>
Reminder that DBZ got insanely popular in the west (despite being total shit) because audiences were starved for continuity and no western cartoon was willing to provide it

>>
>>78364335

I know in the 90s they used to do this for kids cartoons so that they could air reruns and episodes out of order and the kids won't think anything's wrong.
>>
>>78364372
I really doubt continuity had much to do with it. It just happened to be one of the more accessible anime brought over during that time that anime was a fad here.

Why would you want serial cartoons? I have a hard enough time finding good procedural live-action shows that don't eventually devolve into that crap.

I miss The Twilight Zone.
>>
I like lore/continuity in cartoons as much as the next guy, mainly because comparatively few over the years actually tried for it (beyond maybe one single episode that references an earlier one).

But I'm starting to hate the recent attitude here that it's a requirement for a show to be even approaching good. Different cartoons have different goals, etc.
>>
>>78364534
And yeah, by cartoons I meant "western cartoons," not anime.

Though many anime series can also be fairly episodic outside of the few plot-relevant episodes a season.
>>
>>78364534
I enjoy a good episodic cartoon as much as the next guy, but its alot easier to get invested in a show thats changing at least occasionally than one the stagnates.

Bojack Horseman and Rick and morty have incorporated continuity as well.
>>
Why are people so crazy over lore/continuity in cartoons when live action shows do it all the time? Is it really that special when it's in a cartoon instead?
>>
>>78364534
There are relatively few examples of 2010+ cartoons with good continuity, lore, and character progression.
>>
>>78364599
I agree with that personally; pretty much all the cartoons I'm watching now have continuity to at least some extent.

It just is annoying that "Does it have continuity that meets my standards?" is now treated as an objective measurement of quality.
>>
>>78364615
Shit taste here, I just got to wrapped up in anime like fma to like episodic cartoons now
>>
>>78364655
>good continuity, lore, and character progression

I didn't even mean good; just whether it exists at all.
>>
>>78364615

cartoons let us tell a visual story that can go on for quite a long time that live action simply would never have the budget to compete with.

It lets a story only be held back by the imaginations of the creators.

You did accidentally just drop the great idea of having a live action show that completely ditches continuity though....i could get into that

Generator Rex, Young Justice, Max Steel
>>
>>78364703
You're just not looking hard enough. Like I said earlier, Teddy Ruxpin. If you don't bother watching the thing, you'd dismiss it as just another 80s toy cash in. But actually watch the thing, and you'll find it easily has as much continuity as anything recent.
>>
>>78364683

Gravity Falls, Steven Universe, Green Lantern, Beware the Batman, even Thundercats 2011 had a lot of it, even if the execution was shit.

That actually makes perfect sense. It'd explain the anime boom a little bit, too, during Toonami's success. Most animes have continuity, or some form of it, at least. Even the mostly boring slice of life shows.
That's why I don't get why some people on /co/ complain about plot progression in cartoons. What, do you want them to stay the exact same the entire time, not developing any traits or changing? I get it if it's more comedy based, but come on, now.
In my opinion, I think DBZ could've been much more well received if it cut back on the episode long powering up sequences and the like. I like the series, but jesus christ, just progress the show already.
>>
>>78366337
Anime in general would be better if they either waited for the manga run to end or if the creators let the anime become the main focus in the series. Filler is almost pure shit.
>>
>>78366662
Another thing that would help is if they stopped trying to air it year round and switched to 20-26 episode seasons like we have.

Could've sworn I had an Uncle pic that said "One more thing" but apparently I don't.
>>
>>78363558
Fuck off, you must be a complete retard for not liking lore and continuity on cartoons.
