I've seen /co/ talk about this show a lot so I finally gave it a go. After five episodes I'm not really hooked. The subplot on the homeworld had me more engaged.
The main characters aren't unlikable, but their done-in-one conflicts don't seem to carry over from episode to episode. And the high school cliche tropes are almost uncomfortably overblown.
I dunno - does it get better as it goes along? I got as far as the Fast and the Furious-inspired episode, and that one killed it for me.

Sure they do. The giant crater made by the fire monster in the first episode is almost always seen under construction when the characters go downtown. The monster in the third episode is literally the corpse of the fire monster that got reanimated by General Steel.Then there's the fact that Steel has been using the remains of the monsters, robots and spaceships he's collected to build his own giant robot.
