Pretend you have a friend. This friend has never been into comics, but wants to start reading. What are some one-shots and series that you would recommend to get them started?
I've already hooked him up with AC PG run, Red Son, All Star Superman, and a bunch of the DC-AU comics.

Really depends on what sort of stories/interests my friend has as there is such a large variety of comics. I mean, I'm not going to recommend Bedlam to my sister, who reads Batman comics, and I don't recommend Batman comics to my one friend who only reads comics where cute females are the protagonists.

I am that friend. I'm like the only person I know that reads comics and I only ever skim the surface.

He's a dude in his 20s. He's up for whatever. I just sent him killing joke. He's only just started reading it, says he likes it.

First ask what books or movies they like. Then give them something like that.
>Star Wars
Here's DnA's Guardians of the Galaxy run.
>Inception, Interstellar
How about Hickman's Fantastic Four?
>Gimme Deadpool!
No, you want Cable & Deadpool. Also, fuck you.

>Not giving him Kelly or Duggan as well.
No, nigga, fuck you.

What, do you want them to drown in content? No, man, you gotta give them one series to start with, then build from there.

Lend them a variety at first and when they tell you what they like you'll know better what to lend them.
I just lent a coworker who wants to get into comics some stuff. He's a big time gamer, and a WoW player, so I started off with Non-Player. Then, to test what he likes I lent him a Heavy Metal magazine for some variety. If he likes the really crazy adult stuff I'll lend him some Jordoworsky stuff

This. When I first started comics I got myself a bunch of first issues as "pilots" from different companies. It worked.

Marvel Adventures
Is there a DC equivalent?
>>78291565
Why only two publishers?
>>78291508
yeah, you can find a lot of reprinted issue 1s for like a buck each. Although this is non-marvel/dc

DC Adventures
Mostly walk-and-talk Sorkinisms, though.
I let them look at some entry-level basics.
After that, some slightly-above-entry-level basics.
And then they're on their own.
Recently, I gave one friend a copy of Superior, another friend the first 2 volumes of Preacher and WE3, and another friend a copy of Shazam! The monster society of evil.
