I still do some stuff from time to time. A little bluesy and stuff. The thing is, I've never considered myself artist. It was more like exercise and a way to entertain myself.
Music is great, though. You can build your own world with sounds and melodies. One advice I would like to give is don't be afraid of thinking outside of the box. I noticed that the better I got technically at playing guitar, the less creative I was becoming
Furthermore I do think it's the best time for you, because when you learn and discover certain techniques on your own, self-taught, you actually develop your own unique style. For me, and important aspect was that the guitar "breathed", as I was strumming the strings along with the main riffs.
Anyway, enough of this /mu/ talk from me.

I hear ya about that, I wrote 3 scripts for a miniseries that I was planing on getting drawn but then I started reading a lot of books about writing and I got dry near the end of the final issue, and I just left it unfinished.

ah. It's extremely difficult to become a notable writer nowadays. I befriended an upcoming writer who tries to break-through. He told me a lot of stories of his co-operations with many artists, writers, some of them actually known.
It is a very vicious circle.
It's much easier to become a known artist. I do sometimes wonder how all of the new unknown writers get the gigs. My theory is that they blow the editors.

In my country we had this pro comic magazine in vein of underground. It wasn't really underground as the artists were acclaimed, but it felt indie, because the stories weren't cape. The genres went from slice-of-life to gangster stories, sci-fi, crime, horror, surreal, etc.
In many ways it was like Heavy Metal mag.
It lasted for 10 years and had few series that got a regular floppies thanks to that mag, however, the good times ended in 2008 and everything imploded. Nowadays it's only capes and manga. Also, less LCS, less comic stuff in libraries. Dark Times, indeed.

Someone told somewhere that when we were kids, we sort of less were "forced" to learn about some classic music, comics, cartoons and stuff, because we had no choice. The only music we got was MTV, or our parent's radio in a car, when we drove with our parents, our only cartoon were CN and Fox Kids, and CN played a lot of Hanna Barbera's crude stuff.
Our only comics were Marvel and DC, plus some back issues from our cousin's shack. Our only games were shit like Doom, maybe Quake, and Heroes of Might and Magic.
In many ways it did shape us differently, as nowadays, you don't have to wait, you can instantly jump on on anything you want with one click. Maybe that's why people, both kids and adults are becoming impatient.
While reading some essay in one of my uncle's old sci-fi magazines, one line struck out of me the most, ie, when the author of the piece said that a human organism is exhausted after consuming a 2 hour piece enough that can barely read a book afterwards. The tone was a little tongue-in-cheek, but in many ways I realized that we did adapt and maybe, mutated a lot over the few decades. The essay was from late 80s.

yeah. I might be wrong, but there was this opinion that the human uses like 10% of the brain. I don't know how it is nowadays, if it changed. One fascinating thing about us, is that we have a natural capability to learn.
My mother year ago was a complete noob when it came to computers, and by that, she even had problem with turning on / off, but after a crash course she went to, she is doing really good nowadays.
However, the thing that humans actually learn the quickest, are languages. It's something that comes natural for us. Of course, practice is important, but the thing is, english is not my native language. And I also know a little german and portuguese, as well as some words in other languages. It makes sense, as communication must have been the factor that made us dominant species.
Also, if someone wonders, I am ranting both to entertain you folks a little, as well as BUMP.

It's really weird. In our family, my dad's the one who's more tech savvy, whereas my mom is the one who didn't know what an app was.
My dad was also the one who had my childhood comic staples--Tintin, Asterix, and the old Classics Illustrated in addition to when I would sneak off and read his Knights of the Dinner Table comics or old issues of MAD.
This was supplemented by frequent library trips where I read Bone, a smattering of indie series, The Far Side and way too many Garfield comics.

I was thinking the same thing, it is Max Alan Collins, isn't it? He did some Batman novels (or maybe edited an anthology which he had a story in? I can't quite remember), I had one as a kid. And I follow Terry Beatty on flickr but there's nowhere near enough of his art on there. And Dick Giordano's inking actually looks considered and not hacked-out like a lot of his jobs did at that time...he also had a habit of obfuscating the penciller's style on some jobs to the extent that you were looking at a Dick Giordano page but here he hits a nice medium, gets it just right. When you think about how much stuff he did for DC around this time and into the 90's, Christ, he was everywhere, this whilst he was, what, editor-in-chief, or something?! Dude was a machine!
