Probably bad, unfortunately

A lot of Kyle fans don't like how he's treated in the book so saying the Omega Men killed him made them not want to read it, and a lot of Kyle fans didn't even know he was in the book

Only a very small percent of them have any taste, apparently

>>
>>78254208
Depends on where you ask. On CBR, where characterfags are very prevalent, they hate it, because he should be the GREAT LANTERN EVER.

On Reddit, Kyle fans were rooting for him to die, because they were tired of the White Lantern bullshit. So they were disappointed when he was still alive. Then issue #2 dropped with the mirror scene, and they were shocked and happy to see a well-written Kyle once again.

/r/dccomics has a lot of fans that care more about writers than fictional characters. Or they have their favorite characters, but want them to be written by good writers, not like the Jason Todd fans of CBR
>>
>>78254364
Same, by the time New Guardians ended I hated his stupid face, I was vainly hoping he was going to die for real in Omega Men, but then by issue 2 I was shocked at how fast King had fixed him and made him likable again

Then of course a bunch of fans get whiny because he's not the best most special snowflake anymore this author clearly doesn't understand him!!!

Ahh, the Wally problem
>>
>>78254472
>I wouldn't have read it if they had marketed it as another Kyle book.
This. Sacrificing the integrity of the story so you can sell a few more copies(let's face it, it wouldn't have sold much better even if it were marketed that way and wouldn't have gone past 12 issues) is just pure wrong. I applaud King for how good the series is and I applaud DC for giving him such artistic freedom, something very rare nowadays at the big two.
>>
>>78254531

Once I accepted Wally West had a full story and ending I got a lot less bitter.

But I still want good Flash comics, been so long

>DC uncancelled it

You know, now that I think about it this is pretty disturbing. DC uncancelles his book even though it sold worse than shit. Marvel reprints his other book that sold just as shit in something that is apparently expected to sell.

One of them really should drop the act and just offer him a blowjob and some cash.

Jim Lee said that creators were pushing for it to get its 12 issues. Other books like Doomed and Lost Army stayed canceled.

And Scott Snyder, who's probably the second one powerful writer at DC, had been tweeting about how good it is. Now to think of it, I think Geoff Johns has been shilling King as well.

I like the way King treats religion here. He condemns religious institutions that exploit people's faiths for profit, but he also portrays using religion to find inner strength in a positive way

Thanks OP! Love this book
>>
>>78257208
It's a little weird though because while being Mexican was a thing for him, he wasn't a very religious person by any stretch of the word. His mom just made him learn Gaelic shit.
>>
>>78257586
People find faith in their lowest point.
In the darkest times you need a light, and that light can be faith in God.

The preview made me excited about the series in the first place. Going ISIS on Kyle as promotion was definitely a bold move.
>>
Got a dl?
>>
>>78257208
I think it goes beyond that. Without inviting too much of a SJW vs anti SJW clusterfuck, this book does a couple of incredibly rare things for comics. Sectarian conflict. Religious persecution. It has literal christfaggotry without going full edgy fedora or JEEBUS SAVES.

It's almost frank miller in his prime sort of good in this regard, but with more nuance.
>>
>>78255906
Hey look a Tri-Force!
>>
>>78255930
>no Parallax Hal
Awww
>>
>>78265125
He was good about it in his GL one shot too

I also enjoy how completely differently he has Hal and Kyle treat religion. Kyle turns to it in a crisis, Hal attempts to turn to it in a crisis but it only makes him angrier and he turns it into a moment shaped more by his own ego.

God I'm so glad what this book is doing for Kyle, too bad afterwards he'll probably go back to terrible White Lantern wank
>>
>>78265793
I liked that King pulled from a lot of obscure and uncertain canon, like Hal being half Jewish.
>>
>>78254076
Wait a second - whether they know it or not, don't these people worship Darkseid?
>>
>>78266433
I guess? Does that make Alpha Highfather?
>>
>>78254208
It was a hell of a way to get attention.

It made me immediately think, "So the Lanterns curbstomp this entire fucking sector right?" but that's a bad story and Tom King loves Green Lanterns sucking so.
>>
>>78254410
In all fairness, King hadn't earned the audience's trust. How many times has "WE'LL KILL YOUR FAVORITE!" been used for attention grabbing by shitty writers?
>>
>>78266327
I love it too, King does his research and it shows.
>>

They totally are. I regret not being able to double dip and grab the variant in addition to the regular ones.

I dunno I kind of want Carol to go full old school Star Sapphire when she hears about this bullshit.
>>
>>78267755
Silver Age "I will rescue you and cart you back to Zamaron to serve as my submissive concubine" old school, or Englehart psycho bitch "I will murder you and anyone who looks like you" old school?

I really love this scene. Broot and Scrapps are so great.

Broot ;_;

I'm torn on if I want it to just quietly disappear or if I want it to end so horribly there is zero chance if it happening ever again
>>
>>78255585
That.

Was a really good fight scene.
>>
>>78268006
>end so horribly there is zero chance if it happening ever again
Does that work? I feel like the more memorable something is the more likely some writer will dredge it up.
>>
>>78268059
That's a good point, I don't want that

mostly I just want Kyle to feel bad
>>
>>78268006
>>78268059
Doesn't really matter what they do, it's a GL tradition to put Carol back to square one every new run.
>>
>>78268104
Yeah she gets a new personality with every single writer, between Johns, Venditti and Jordan she might as well be three different characters
>>
>>78256151
Meh.

I went from being really into the Princess to being really not pretty damn quick.
>>
>>78268336
I really like her, I hope she doesn't end up fucked over by the end of the book
>>
>>78257208
Its nice, yeah. I also like how important the oath is for him, that he gives a fuck about being a lantern. He hasn't let the Omega Men turn him into one of them, and I dig that.
>>
>>78267877
"You kidnapped and fucked my boyfriend, I am going to set your planet on fire." old school. So maybe she has to be talked down from going full Englehart.

Like I guess she can be America bombing its way through the conflict or something, but I feel like the Omega Men taking a Lantern and bragging about it should have consequences for both the Citadel and the Omega Men. What was essentially a regional conflict just went galactic.

I don't think that's where the story's going to go, but that's the only beat that rings false to me so far.
>>
>>78268819
Oh I thought you meant she'd get pissed at Kyle for banging the princess. I'd like Carol to the rescue.

I think the conceit is that no one outside the Vega system really knows what's going on, because Kyle made this deal on his own, and the video was just sent to the Citadel. Unless I'm being stupid and there's something that contradicts that.

Either way I'd think someone is starting to get concerned.
>>
>>78258334
Goddammit anon.
>>
>>78266764
>It made me immediately think, "So the Lanterns curbstomp this entire fucking sector right?"

Way, way back in the bronze age they made a pact that Lanterns will never interfere with the Vega system's business. So they can't really do that unless they want war. Which they probably don't. And the GLs are kind of lost at the moment anyway.
>>
>>78266433
>>78266662
I'm not 100% but I think Alpha/Omega are completely unrelated to Darkseid/Highfather.
If I read/understood correctly, before the Citadel was called the Citadel, it was the Empire of Alpha, named after their first emperor and God.
Eventually, the Empire conquered a bunch of space, including a solar system that knew/worshiped Alpha but also worshiped another god, Omega.
They believed Alpha, god of kings and emperors, had died but would one day return as Omega, god of the low, the poor, the beggars. That's about all we know from the comic about the two, I think.
Oh, next issue is gonna take place on the world said to be Alpha's grave.
>>
>>78270270
And also Kalista's people are a sect of the Citadel's religion, that believe Alpha was a king and they're descended from him.
>>
>>78270365
Oh yeah!
That's why they gotta kill people every day.
Gotta grow up to be a badass conqueror like Alpha.
Or is that just their system for keeping their planet's populace under control?
Does it even matter?
I love Tom King.
>>
>>78270119
There's not really anybody who could come try to rescue him even if they were willing to break the pact

Saint Walker got captured, the indigos are mostly dead, the greens are all gone, Sinestro wouldn't spit on Kyle if he was on fire, the reds are mostly dead and also don't care, Carol is hopefully not so stupid now that she'd go in and start a war, etc

I guess since hobo Hal is not technically a GL he could go in but he's got his own shit to worry about
>>
>>78270449
They're just keeping the natives in line.
>>
>>78270467
That leaves... Larfleeze? How's that for a finale?
>>
>>78270526

I haven't been keeping up with GL/Sinestro.
>>
>>78270563

>>
>>78270526

Is Scrapps from Hyn'xx?
>>
>>78270760
I'm not sure if that's where he's from, but he found the orange lantern there on Okaara. But Okaara doesn't seem to be in King's version of the Vega system.

Tamaran, Starfire's planet, also used to be in the Vega system. And the planet Fatality was from, but John blew that up anyway.
>>
So the Bramin are Space Jews right?
>>
>>78270563
Nope
>>
>>78270918
Kinda. I don't think he's trying to be too literal but there's a certain vibe in the Citadel oppressing them and dumping them on a new homeland to oppress the natives.

Well, since Marz created him after raping the Lantern corp in ET I would say that is a fair assessment.

SIX BILLION HANDS
>>
>>78272175
Oh god I didn't get that until now.
>>
>>78272699
I hear ET was editorially mandated. Marz thought he was going to write Hal Jordan and was instead left trying to pick up the pieces of the franchise.
>>
>>78275373
Getting rid of Hal and introducing a younger GL instead was an editorial mandate, yeah

Gerard Jones was supposed to write him out too although his plot didn't involve Hal becoming a villain

Jones also quit/got booted from the book at the last minute so Marz was a very late addition. I don't know if he came up with the Parallax stuff or if it was the editors (or both) though

Basically if you hate ET or what it did you should be upset at Dooley and Berganza because the majority of it is their doing
>>
>>78276195
Berganza was around back then? The guy /co/ insists is responsible for the Teen Titans franchise sucking? Does his evil know no bounds?

>>
It frustrates me that I can't get myself to get invested in Omega men when everyone is see on /co/ says its so good.

There's no law that says you have to enjoy everything that is "objectively" good. Don't force it, just look for something else to read. It is what it is.

Christ what does he have on DC management?

How self-contained is this book and how many issues are there?
