The hell, /co/, why didn't you tell me about this awesome movie? Every single minute is either cute, awesome, or both, so why the hell don't we talk more about it? Is it the Lackaidaisy/Nedroid effect?

Also, what exactly is the relationship between the two? Because I can't help think of the word courtship and then get to the word pedophilia, then wonder what the fuck is wrong with me because the movie is so great.
>>
>>78214401
Seriously, people, no one has anything to comment about the movie? Or why there isn't a sequel?

We talked about this movie. I heard about it from /co/ and talked about it here. But /co/ likes to complain and there isn't much to complain about this movie.

Also about their relationship. I would call it love. Despite what 4chan might make us think there are many kinds of love but lust isn't one of them.
>>
>>78214401
My friend absolutely adored the movie.
>>
>>78214760
Well, sex didn't even enter into my question, it was mostly one regarding how exactly is it they see each other. Because at times you really do get the feeling it's a couples relationship, but not always. Like, it's very clear they care very, very deeply about each other, but in what fashion, exactly?

And yes, there's little to nothing to protest. It's an incredibly well-made, well-paced, and well animated movie that I really wish I had seen sooner.
>>
>>78214401
>Also, what exactly is the relationship between the two?

Father-daughter. The books show Ernest in that role more than the film does since the latter is more about how he he's basically being reformed by her.
>>
>>78214951
I really should learn french.
>>
>>78214960
I watched it with subtitles.
>>
>>78215082
I meant to read the books. From what people say about the movie, I'm guessing the books are at least worth a read. All good children's books are.
>>
>>78214401

France is currently the country with the best animated works. Before it used to be Japan, but then it became Otaku/Moe pandering BS, and before that it used to be America but then producers got greedy and saw animation as just a means to farm money from kids and families.
>>
>>78215209
It's a pity France seems to roll a dice and decide one particular part of their animations will have something which will detract from it's overrall quality.

But yeah, it's pretty much the place were my favourite animation has been coming from the last few years. Hopefully the 3D bug won't spread and they'll cut that shit out.
>>
>>78215209
What are you talking about? Celestine is super moe!
>>
>>78215580
Nah, mate. She's cute. Moe is a perversion of cute, elements brought together without concern for the whole in attempt to construct cute rather than make cute.
>>
>>78214401
>Every single minute is either cute, awesome, or both, so why the hell don't we talk more about it? Is it the Lackaidaisy/Nedroid effect?
Something like that. It's a good movie so there isn't much to talk about it, and it isn't mainstream enough.

>The hell, /co/, why didn't you tell me about this awesome movie?
I actually learned about this movie in a good animation thread. Those threads also make me watch a lot of 30's shorts and old anime.
>>
>>78215752
no, that's a perversion of moe
moe is one of those things where the minute it was named, it was doomed. but that doesn't mean it wasn't cool before it was cool
for example, thinking-shit-was-cool-before-it-was-cool. that was cool, before it was cool.
>>
>>78216391
I'll freely admit that I'm not weeabo enough to claim expertise in moe matters.
>>
>>78215752
Moe is about bringing the desire to protect. It is a character that brings up the paternal instincts. And Celestine is moe as fuck!

Kawaii is cute.
>>
>>78216992
>paternal instincts
All Celestine did was make me want to find a girl with her mannerism and personality to fuck. Also, it's all right for a movie, I think it would have been better if it had more action.
>>
>>78214401
When something here is generally considered to be good then there won't be much discussion.
I learned of this movie through /co/ and it's hella cute. It's apparently by the same company that made Panique Au Village which I recommend though its pure comedy with absurdist humor.

I haven't read the French books but I assume in them that Ernest is more of a father figure who adopted Celestine. I interpreted their relation in this movie more like best friends with an age gap. You can love someone without having a lust for them

I literally only found out about this movie through a random thread on /co/. It's fucking adorable though. I love movies where a big burly thing takes care of a small cute thing.

Are the original books any good? Or is it just a kids picture book or something?
>>
>>78214951
I got that impression from the film too actually and I never read any of the books.

He's like a deadbeat who ended up with a new daughter through total happenstance and somehow rose to the occasion in a total bumbly sort of way.

We discussed it a lot when it came out, sorry that you wasn't there to see those threads. What fuck more do you want? A 24/7 general about this movie to prove that we liked it? The shit we do talk about more or less is still has stuff coming out.

What people here should ashamed of is that the European /co/mrades rarely talk about french animation outside of shit that remind them of anime (Wakfu, Ladybug) or old french/japan cartoons.
>>
>>78220038

The books are somewhat hard to find at a decent price range but he's definitely more of a father to her in them.

From what I can tell, the film is an origin story that was never told in the books; they just started with them already together and Ernest as her dad.

By being a tradigital thing.

You missed the threads that were happening last year. We spent much time discussing the dub and when the English dub was going to arrive.

ProTip: If you haven't listened to the English Dub (and you are natively English), you should definitely do that. It's at least equal to the original French dub, and in my opinion, notably better. The voices emote and hit harder (funnier/sadder/happier), especially at the end.

>Also, what exactly is the relationship between the two?
Normally I'm all for rule34 being spread but honestly, they remind me more of an Uncle and early teenager/tween niece. I can understand the vibe you might get from the courtship thing, but... yeah, it just doesn't feel right the more you think that way, does it?
>>
Goddamn Ernest, goddamn Celestine, ruining a family business!

I do wish bears have insurance, because otherwise they're fucked.

Also, while I didn't need the to decapitate them, I personally didn't like they got NO punishment at the end. Doing a bad thing for good reasons isn't enough to clear up the fact you did a bad thing and need to, at least, receive some reprimand and punishment for it.
>>
>>78214960
>>78215082

France does have some great animation, but I think the English dub is far superior to the French one for this movie.

>>78220993
Having seen how they can render 3d into pseudo-2D with their series "The Grand Grand Holiday" I'm not overly worried. It could be good.
>>
>>78224389

>it's missing a bunch of frames
That doesn't make bad animation, but bad animation tends not to have as many frames, because lazy animation is often bad animation.

I like this word but this movie really showed how unclear animation method naming is.
Is there a term for symbol animation? Or a widely used term for digital hand drawn?

No clue. Considering even the term "traditional animation" actually involves dozens of completely lookimg animation techniques, I think umbrella terms for this sort of stuff are counter productive.

That's what tradigital means in the broadest sense.
Using traditional cel (frame-by-frame) techniques with new technology.
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was also tradigital.
So is, say, a lot of OPM for an /a/ example.

Did they change the dialogue or something, the other character is supposed to by shyly embarrassed in this meme, not straight up annoyed.
>>

I don't know. It is fanart and I can't read moonrunes.
>>
>>78250576
Okay, I google translated it and it is something about being together with your beloved one in the snow and something about different feeling.
>>
>>78248151
Do not recall deleted scenes, but it does have a number of good extras including a lengthy making of documentary in French. And the movie does have a very nice English dub as well, so well worth the purchase.

Fanart of good movies especially with animal characters is made constantly.

What's with french people and making movies involving really young girls with less than ideal older men, with more than a few implying they will eventually fuck? Leon the professional being the epitomy of it with the firl actively seeking the D.

It's a pity flash communities have died. Say what you will of the animation, many were better than quite a lot of things dreamwork (and nowadays, pixar) have done.

Also, is it inly me or the captcha has a cactus fixation?

it's more of an overly worrisome street sign obsession on my end

fuck that fucking shit, wish there were a way to revert it back to legacy captcha on clover somehow

This is what the books look like. In fact I'm pretty sure that's a pull from one of them. The books are very sweet, more so than the movie even. Less sassy though.
>>
>>78268249
But the movie art seems more cute while the book seems uncanny realistic.
>>
>>78268408
That's debatable and cute doesn't always equal sweet.

I absolutely adore this movie. My strongest memory is the girl behind me sobbing when Earnest and Celestine finally reunite at the very end.
