A comic with "plot and characters" isn't automatically better than gag-a-day strips.
They can both be awful in different ways. Diaz' prose is painfully dull and the characters mostly seemed the usual cast of stereotypes last time I tried to read.
The story he's doing moves very, very slowly. His update rate doesn't help matters one bit.
Diaz does a good job with colors and shadows, but his designs are bland.
Dobson has awful opinions or at least seems to flock to whatever is cool to hate on tumblr or whatever, and most of the time he forgets to make a joke. But he keeps pumping that shit (make your own inflation joke here). And while his coloring is still shit, his art is decent.

I don't want to say anything against anyone with this, but I'm an amateur with a webcomic and I thought I was putting okay effort into updating once or twice a week with a wobbly schedule I'm still trying to come to terms with... came across pic related the other day.

Kaz posted links to his own work, and also pointed out that you should always seek to be improving, and that constructive criticism is an important part of the process, otherwise what are teachers for. Dobson suddenly got very apologetic, said he didn't realize he was dealing with another professional or whatever, and Kaz lit into him again because the source of the criticism shouldn't have mattered since it was valid anyway, whether from another artist, a teacher, or from some random internet guy.

When you are being critiqued you can either let them stop you with the realities that your art is bad and you don't want to improve because they made you feel bad and stay stagnant, or you can listen to what they have to say critically, take to heart they do want you to improve and work from there, moving forward with what you're trying to accomplish.
The problem with Dobson is he hates listing to critique and only wants praise, which is a horrible work model for any profession.
