>The book is existentialist, and its main joke, according to Gerber, is that there is no joke: "that life's most serious moments and most incredibly dumb moments are often distinguishable only by a momentary point of view." This is diametrically opposed to screenwriter Gloria Katz, who, in adapting the comic to the screen, declared "It's a film about a duck from outer space... It's not supposed to be an existential experience."

Think about how fucking good a Catwoman Crime thriller would be. Ant Man already showed us that a cape heist movie can totally work, even be astoundingly entertaining.

But they're never going to do another Catwoman movie because of this monstrosity.

On another note, does anyone think that Anne Hathaway would make a really good Selina but Nolan gave her garbage direction?

F4ntastic was p faithful to ultimate ff desu

Had they called the movie Fanatic Four: Ultimate (or some such bs) I think they would at least conceded that the flick was an alternate take off sorts.

But to make the movie passable they would have had to stick to Bendis' six issue origin arch, focusing on Moleman and setting up Doom for the sequel instead of shoehorning the Dewbot greenscreen climax in a story it had no business being in.

She doesn't act or even really look like Catwoman with the costume design in TDKR.

I know a lot of people disagree on this but I honestly thought she was one of the weaker points of the movie. I know she could pull it off, but she was way too cold for Selina.

I liked Hardy's Bane because he had a little bit of the hamminess that a comic movie should really have

Anon's right. Film adaptations are generally not going to be 1:1 with the source material just due to time constraints alone, and even with what can fit needs to be adapted to work to the creative strengths of those working on the film.

To really take a shit on the source material, a film has to actually be shit after taking liberties. Or take so many liberties that the result is unrecognizeable, Will Smith I, Robot levels of being completely unrelated.
>>

>GotG film turns the team from an intentionally assembled peacekeeping force to a ragtag group of prisoners accidentally caught up in saving the Galaxy, makes Ronan a cosmic badguy which he hasn't been in fucking ages and ages, especially in relation to the modern GotG
>Howard the Duck rejects the premise of the comic as an existentialist experience and makes it a whacky space duck comedy
>Constantine makes the British charismatic main character who uses his wits to get out of situations a brooding American who is saved by sheer dumb luck that has a mystic arsenal. They don't even get the trenchcoat right.
The only reason these things are recognizable is because comics are a medium where the number of writers and artists working with a character is so high that the various different interpretations allow you to feel that the characters are incredibly malleable, and this is true to a large extent. It's also because comics are a visual medium so there is a much lower chance of the visuals being off from something that already has a drawn out design, as compared to a novel where the design was in your head, and therefore can be completely different from what you imagined.

Personally I think how much she likes to fuck around compared to other villains is nice. She's a little silly and coy without it being "the silly exterior makes the horrible things the villain does more scary/the silly masks the PAAAAINNN INSIIIIDEEE". I think her playful nature also sets her apart from many femme fatales who are often either very serious upfront or using any sort of playfulness to cover up the tortured past I previously mentioned.

An actually faithful Catwoman movie could be awesome.

-There's a lot of great source material to work with (Could bring Dini/Brubaker/Valentine on as a writer, they all do a great Selina).
- She's one of the most culturally relevant female characters in comics (People have been begging for woman-led capeshit).
- She's an actual anti-hero and criminal, so it'd be different from the usual capeshit.
- She can be taken in several different directions (heist movie, mob story, complicated hero, revenge flick, etc.)
- Can be sexy/salacious without everyone losing their shit.
- CatBat romance is guaranteed money (as long as it's not the focus).
- Her character allows for a serious/mature story that can also be fun.

Just don't let Snyder near it.
>>
>>78185155
Not even close - Aside from changing one detail in the ending, the movie was as faithful a reproduction as comic fans could ever hope for across any franchise. The movie is almost shot by shot the same as the comic.
>>
>>78195278

I vaguely recall hearing rumors that the script for the Halle Berry Catwoman movie was actually based on a script from the never-developed "Nightcat" movie (a character Marvel developed in the early 1990s that was supposed to cross over into pop music and film... learn about the character's weird development history at http://thegeeksverse.com/2015/09/09/leaving-proof-278-the-curious-case-of-marvels-nightcat/).

If you've read the Nightcat one-shot Marvel published back in the day, there are some similarities with the Catwoman movie, although they could also be attributed to coincidence based on the fact that both characters have a cat motif.

Would be really ironic if the rumors had any truth to them, though.

I think your statement has some merit, but I also think people mostly ignored Dredd because it was poorly marketed, the trailers were garbage, the whole 3D angle didn't sit well with it's target demographic, and Karl Urban was regarded as a b-list actor.

It's really a shame, because the movie was awesome.

I don't think the same would happen to a Catwoman movie though, since the 2004 disaster has largely been forgotten by everyone, instead of living in notoriety like the old Dredd flick.

The con does not work the same at all. There is no risk in the film, you must have missed the issue where John is shell shocked that he almost destroyed the world by nearly creating a war between the three hell lords.

Anyone read/remember the old four-issue miniseries that was set at the same time as Batman: year One, it was kind of Catwoman: Year One....well, not kind of, WAS. Another good comic that got sold..I THINK Chuck Dixon may have written it, can't for the life of me remember who the artist was, though. Anyway, a film of THAT would be great....

Has anyone mentioned Men In Black or Art School Confidential, yet?

Yeah it's just called Catwoman: Year One, artist JJ Birch.

You sure? From the late eighties or very early 90's, '92 at the absolute latest? Not absolutely doubting you, Anon, I just thought it was called Catwoman. Ah right yeah quick google says it was written by Mindy Newell and was just called Catwoman, dunno if it was subsequently collected as Year One? Thanks though, Anon!

That's the saddest thing I've heard in awhile, you're missing so much great stuff.

Any Fox film

I'd like to say Man of Steel, but that's more like a terrible Elseworlds story... on film.

A comic of satirical nature and high complexity was turned into a straight-face glorification of capeshit violence.

The idiotic Zack Snyder can't understand subtexts, can he?

Never read the source material, but I can easily say this is one of the worst movies I ever paid to see.

Honestly and I already said this earlier in the thread, I think Anne Hathaway has the potential to be a 10/10 Selina but she was already in the Nolanverse so she probably isn't going to get her own vastly different flick unless she's super interested and lucks out like Ryan Reynolds.

I know a lot of people loved her performance in TDKR and I get it, she was a good character- I just think she was a bad Catwoman with the direction she got. Way too cold, Nolan was trying to go for some topical 99% bullshit.

You are wrong.
If you had said V for Vendetta though you would be right
