It's a shame. This was a really funny show.
>>
>>78159792
It was OK, but I'm super glad it floundered and we're not living in a Fantagraphics Cinematic Universe.

>shows that were too ahead of their time
In what way? If you're talking about the liberal stereotypes, those have been around for ages.
>>
>>78159792
Watched it for the first time not long ago. It pretty much falls flat on nearly every aspect.
>>

Angus Oblong was a fucking genius.
>>
>>78160149
This is probably the best answer. I fucking wish I lived in the reality where The Oblongs got a dozen seasons and Family Guy stayed cancelled. It did cynicism and dark humor just right while staying light hearted, it feels almost like the rightful heir to both The Simpsons and The Addams Family.
>>
>>78160149
Honestly, one of my favorites.
>>
>>78160149
I've seen a lot of people talk shit about this show.

Is it actually good?
>>
>>78161014
It was ordered to be a Juxtaposition of King of the Hill without understanding what make KoTH work.

The irony of great shows that were "cut short" is that, left to continue production, would probably go the way of the mcfarland and simpsons and deteriorate over time. It's a more positively-leaning ambivalence, in that they can remain as good as they were, a time capsule of what quality can be.

/tv/ would eat this shit up if it aired now

I remember watching this all the time when it aired, but haven't watched it since. What about it made it ahead of its time, exactly?
Aside from maybe the gay couple.
>>
>>78165760
It's hard to watch this shit after the recession

>My life is so hard! LOOK HOW BIG MY APARTMENT IS
>>
>>78168014
Hipsters, nigga.
>>
>>78168037
Wasn't the apartment Jim's(I think that was the name of Posehn's character)who was actually really well off?
>>
>>78159792
God.
I live in Madison, Wisconsin. Every motherfucker around here is a character from that show.
>>
>>78168455
I lived there as a very young child. I remember my Dad always griping about how hypocritical everyone was there. Like, they're "Liberal" right up to the moment a black family moves in next door. Granted this was in the 80s so I suppose they've moved on to other hypocrisies.
>>
>Judge made a show about the type of people Hank Hill would hate
Am I the only one that appreciated that?
>>
>>78165760
>EVERYBODY SKA!
>>
>>78168037
He had two roommates, one who was pretty well off. If an apartment this size (in New Jersey btw) seems out of your reach with two room mates, get out of the minimum wage game mate.
>>
>>78170679
The trouble is that, unlike Hank and the average citizen of Arlen, Mike Judge seems to genuinely dislike American liberals, or at least the ones who are in it for the cultural aspects. As a result, the show was less a good-natured ribbing and more a flat out mockery of its main characters. By the end it was starting to become more than that, and treat them with a little more tenderness, but then it got cancelled.

I'm always gonna miss this show. It got me into Risk, which became a staple Friday night board game for me and my own college buddies.

It could work, but probably never will

sheep in the big city was pretty legit

Brand new and it's still ahead of its time.

>That entire episode just dedicated to Blue Velvet
>>
>>78170746

I think that was the big turn-off for most people; King of the Hill was an affectionate satire of Texan (and to a lesser extent, conservative) culture, while this was more mean-spirited.
>>
>>78163438
This did have like, 4 seasons and a perfect ending at least
>>
>>78170780
One of the best cartoons ever aired it kills me that we where left with a cliffhanger.
