My theory, from that episode, was that Jack must become leader of the disenfranchised of the present and defeat Aku in the present before he can go back in time.
Given that . . . I seriously doubt we'll see it. The new series will probably some weak one-season closure, surely lacking much of its capacity to surprise viewers so thoroughly unfamiliar (at the time) with its narrative sincerity.
Surely, we can't overlook the irony of CN trying to recreate Samurai Jack's magic by going back in time to start up the series again....

There's definite merit to the idea of having Jack accept as in the comics, that the past is an irretrievable ideal.
But at the same time, goddamn, Jack's entire people are more than likely worked to death after Aku sends him to the future. It would be nice if some of that could be averted, but maybe that's just how it goes. World goes on, Jack and the rest of the world have to live with how things were, but can fight to make things better for the future.

I'd at least like to see the issue addressed. Real people don't get to go back in time to fix their problems. They shouldn't. Just because Jack is in a unique situation involving forward time travel doesn't mean he should be different from anyone else. He could have just as easily existed in a universe where time travel wasn't possible and he was frozen for that time instead of flung into a portal, and his situation would be no different. It's important to focus on improving things for the present and the future, and accept that you can't change the past.
Or, I'd at least like to see the show accept that as a valid argument while satisfactorily disproving it in at least this one case. It always bothered me that it was never brought up at all that going back in time may be wrong somehow.

I'm supposing that they're supposed to be Anubis-type creatures. The cursed pool was likely drawing on something they understood and respected- making their enslavement even more ironic.
Like, if Jack had wished to return to his time, he might have done so in the form of a Dragon or something and be bound to the pool- making him unable to face Aku.
