Until now, I never thought to ask what years the Shrek franchise are supposed to be taking place in.
>>
>>78157531
Once upon a time, anon.

Once upon a time.
>>
So, are these movies dated?
>>
>>78157859

I'd say yes and no. They have some timeless elements like the feel of the romance and chemistry of the cast. But there's no denying many of the jokes will fly over people's heads in the years to come.

Seriously, nobody will probably connect the nod to Spiderman in the opening montage of Shrek 2 by 2058
>>
Seeing as they take place in a fantasy fairy tale version of Earth, the year is ultimately pretty irrelevant.
>>
>>78160422

Not to mention they have fucking BKs

in the first one, Shrek says "hold the phone" a couple of times but I don't think phones even exist in that world.
>>
>>78165158

How? It did everything better. The villain was better. The romance and conflict were better. It just felt more coherent.

Kind of a toss up between 3 and 4.

On one hand, 3 was just boring. But 4 turned Shrek into a complete asshole for no reason

the upside down kissing is like the most iconic scene in spider-man, people would totally get it in 2058
that's like saying people today don't understand homages to scenes from Frankenstein or Casablanca or Gone with the wind. even if they haven't scene the movie they would probably still be aware of it
>>
>>78173767

Hard to say. Considering Spiderman is doomed to be rebooted every few fucking years, who's to say people will remember the Raimi-Meguire films by then when we'll probably be on the sixth reboot?

Not shit, but not classic enough get attention from hundreds year future human. But toy story may be able to get attention
>>
>>78173847

I think the first two are plenty classic enough to be remember a century from now. Hell, if the Kung Fu Panda series keeps being triple-A for all SIX movies, and DreamWorks manages to get even more big movies under their belts, they'll probably have all of their movies remembered long down the line like a lot of Disney's earliest classics

Oh really yeh fucking Farquaad?
>>
>>78173966

Not really. At least, not when it just comes out of nowhere after TWO films of him developing a social life after years of solitude. Really, the third should have been more about his backstory, revealing why Shrek was such a loner, since we only had his world about ogres being lonely to go on. And while the whole "babies ever after" wasn't too bad, it seemed very tacked on.

Not sure what to do with the 4th, since it sounded like an expanded half-hour concept stretched into a full on movie
