How do you feel about this film?
>>
It's a meanspirited turd.
>>
It was surprisingly good, but once you've seen it, it has less impact.

So is 4chan, but here we are.
>>
It's not necessarily a GOOD movie, it IS a funny movie though.
>>
I went to see it in theaters when I was kid. During his rampage through town, the film burned out. The timing of it made me think it was part of the film. Left a good impression.
>>
>>78136807
the story was actually okay. i had the benefit of not watching this til it had already come out and been thoroughly shat on, and i THINK worse movies of its same ilk had come out, and i watched this and was like 'eh not so bad'
wasnt great
wasnt the grinch whatsoever.. but it wasnt that bad

>>78137073
Reminds me of when I saw the episode of Spongebob where he's waiting for a package for the first time a couple years back. Nick suddenly cut the episode right after Spongebob's "I wasted my whole life waiting!" line.
>>
It was funnier than the original at least.

that's fantastic, I hope some people left before a new reel was put in and to this day think it was a short movie with a shocking, tragic ending
>>
>>78136807
Funny by how bizarre it is. It's so weird it's almost surreal. In comparison to the original though? It's garbage...but my garbage.
>>
I probably would've called it shit a couple years ago, but next to The Lorax it looks like a fucking masterpiece in terms of Seuss adaptations.
>>
It's shit.
>>
>>78137227
yeah it's pretty much all over the place isn't it? horton hears a who was pretty good, whereas the cat in the hat was so bad it rivals lorax

It's not /co/ related.

I want to beat the shit out of all of the Whos from that movie because of how ugly they are

It's a pretty good adaptation for what it is. I'd imagine making an hour+ long movie out of a short children's book and a 30 minute animated adaptation wasn't easy to begin with.
>>
It's funny. I know it's not necessarily a GOOD movie, but it makes me laugh. I feel like Jim Carrey makes it work. If it wasn't for him, there'd be no reason to watch.

This.
The tone, the color scheme, the way it's shot; everything is just so unpleasant.

Makeup is fantastic and Jim Carrey is GOAT in it though, despite it looking like the entire thing was shot through a wide-angle lens smothered in vaseline.
>>
>>78140116
If it was an original idea? I'd probably like it a lot more as a simple guilty pleasure movie that offered some interesting concepts, but the character designs for the Who's would've been a much bigger issue.

They'd just look extremely uncanny, if you weren't already aware of Dr. Seuss's art style beforehand. If The Grinch wasn't an adaptation, their ugliness factor would've been completely pointless and totally irrelevant to the plot.

Really?
I mean specifically for the architecture, everything looks so washed-out and dreary.

Like, I guess maybe that was the point? Like, Whoville is this holly-covered consumerist wasteland that's totally devoid of any substance?

The cave set was cool, but everything in Whoville looked really bad in an unpleasant kinda way.

It was a book, not a comic or a cartoon. There WAS a cartoon but that's a stretch to say because there was a cartoon, we can talk about a live action movie based on a book. By that logic, the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings films are /co/ related because there was an animated movie of Lord of the Rings.

Not /co/ related.

The live action film is clearly based on the cartoon, though. The green skin? Exclusive to the cartoon. The main song, and other musical elements? Exclusive to the cartoon. Yes, it was originally a book--but the live action is not some distinct, separate adaptation of the book, it's very clearly adapted from the cartoon.

You fucking autist. If you can look at the illustrations in the original book, which are LITERALLY ON EVERY PAGE, and not come to the conclusion that it's as much of a comic as anything, you're not really a cartoon fan and should kill yourself.
>>
>>78142631
yeah the echo joke is amazing, the movie itself is probably a 7/10 at best but I think it's pretty fun, and that a lot of effort was clearly put into making it, I think overall Seuss would have appreciated that if he had been alive to see it(and if I recall properly his wife was fine with the final product, it was Cat In The Hat that she hated)

>>78137227
overall the only good thing about The Lorax was the music made for it, and they didn't even include the best song in the final film;

That was the entire point. Everything is being shown through the Grinch's point of view, which is exactly what you described. Notice how once he actually learns the true meaning of Christmas, everything becomes much more bright, lighthearted, and generally nicer from there on.
>>
>>78150038

>>

It's not a good adaptation or even a good movie but I thoroughly enjoy it nonetheless.
>>
>>78136807
It was good enough. Plenty of jokes for both the kids and the grown ups. Although it didn't feel faithful to the Dr. Suess books/cartoon, it was still enjoyable.
>>
>>78136807
It's an odd thing that's for sure.

When I was a dumb kid I enjoyed it, then I stopped liking it, but now I've warmed up to it again. In a way, it reminds of Garfield minus Garfield.

For those who don't know what that is, basically some guy went through a bunch of Garfield comics and removed Garfield and everything he says/thinks. The result is just a bunch of comics of Jon talking to himself, and for some reason, it makes the entire comic really...bleak. Jon seems a lot more depressed, and it's more apparent when Garfield isn't there lightening the mood.

The Grinch is in a similar vein. I find it funnier to imagine the Grinch as a stereotypical 4chan neet. There's a lot of self loathing going on underneath that "Fuck off" exterior. The fact he's green also helps the imagination process.
>>
>>78136807

NOUN
1. a simple drawing showing the features of its subjects in a humorously exaggerated way, especially a satirical one in a newspaper or magazine.
2. a motion picture using animation techniques to photograph a sequence of drawings rather than real people or objects.
