Why does everyone have a huge hard on for this show? I watched the first two eps when it first aired on tv and I don't like it. Simple as that, but I don't judge others. But when I told my friends and classmates they're like, "omfg! Are you a faggot?! It's the greatest show ever!!!" So I watch 5 more episodes and yup, not impressed. I like it, I think it's a good show, but the massive wank-off the internet has participated in over it is just embarrassing. It doesn't deserve to be ranked as IMDB's 4th best TV series of all time and just shows to me that the people who love it so much simply haven't watched that many shows and would probably proudly claim to be a "fan" of the show.
Don't get me wrong, I like the show a lot and I get why people like it, but it definitely has its flaws and is nowhere near as clever, insightful, hilarious and innovative as most people seem to think it is.

It's the kind of show that tries to hard to be deep instead of just letting that stuff come naturally. It also assumes its audience is full of retards and explains every little thing the characters are feeling just so that no one'll be at a loss.
There's the one episode where Beth and Jerry're arguing in Rick's stronghold under the garage, and the alien just comes out and states what's wrong with them and their marriage to a T. Not long after we're treated to Rick's ex explaining in excruciating detail why, exactly, he's a bad influence on others. In a later episode, rather than just showing us that Morty has repressed rage, Rick just out and says Morty does before Morty does anything that would clue the audience in to the fact that he does, indeed, have repressed rage.
Ideally the character development should speak for itself.
