Who else here thinks that Yang isn't actually going to be punished? I mean, Ozpin is way too smart to fall for something like this, Qrow knows her way too well to think that she'd do such a thing, Coco knows that the bad guys have someone with an illusory semblance, and it looks like the people in the front row didn't fall for the illusion. But this might also all be according to Cinder's plan: If Yang doesn't get punished, the crowd will get even more pissed off and draw more Grimm to Beacon.

I've just started watching the Yang vs Mercury fight.
I'm going to assume that everything that Mercury did was to facilitate the finale of it all.
From a distance of an arms length, Yang reared her right hand back, screamed, and threw a haymaker.
From a distance where the two hands are touching, against a southpaw, the fact that she thought that was a good idea is terrifying, especially as she threw it the way she throws everything, with the left hand flailing away from the body in a uncorked position. In this case it was pointing diagonally at the ground behind her.
The self control Mercury must have, to not hit the body, legs or head of Yang while she did that with his lead or back leg is astounding.
The fights still have the issue of everything being done on a straight line. Mercury's reentry into the fight was stupidly telegraphed. Instead of moving to the side, checking it or meeting him with something higher she leapt over it at a distance where the kicker would have an advantage.
There was that odd sequence where they kind of handfought. I don't really understand why they did that though. If Yang was trying to back hand she did a piss poor job of it considering that her hand met his at the elbow. There was also the issue that she tried twice to punch across her body, at a figure standing off her line, with what looked like a straight and a hook.
After the small fight at a distance where Mercury came in with a jumping flipping axe kick, she blocked high, threw his leg up high, then followed it up, with a overcommited lead left low kick and right straight, with her left hand low again. He attacked her through the middle but still she was just wide open on the left side.
The combination work after the close the distance again was just shoddy as all hell with the hand not being used to attack falling way by her hips and when it progressed to kicking, she just made a fool of herself.

People getting hurt during the fights is a completely different issue. No one was bothered when Weiss got burnt, and that could've been way worse than a broken leg if her aura had been low enough.
The were bothered because Yang did it *after* the fight to a defenseless and beaten opponent. If Merc had started stomping on Coco's head after she was knocked out they would have arrested him too.

Good ep today. Plot, decent action, reactions and a nice cliffhanger. Can't help but imagine Yang assaulting Merc with a folding chair now, though. Wish this wouldn't get cleared up too quickly, but I can see it happening. Also hope Merc and Em were in the dark about this part of the plan and/or Neo handling matters her own sadistic way.

After a breakdancing performance by Mercury there is this weird goddamn moment where Yang holds her hand out and Mercury kicks it.The angle doesn't make any goddamn sense and it looks like Mercury just did it for shits and giggles.
The reoccuring issue that RWBY has of distance rears its head again. During several of the spinning kicks the fact that they wouldn't actually land is pretty blantant. Also Yang's guard is basically her holding her hands out in front of her like a cat.
The entire sequence kind of looked janky compared to the rest of it, similar to the Arslan fight. It was significantly slower than the rest to allow for all the spinning.
The kick that let Yang counter looked odd like a soccer kick to the head. The shoryuken to elbow sequence looked neat as hell and almost Monty like.
The sequence where Mercury came back from the ring out was a mixed bag. The points where she was blocking kicks with an outstretched hand just looked stupid as hell.
The sequence where Mercury beat the unholy shit out of Yang was exactly what I expected the fight to consist of and that final fucking sequence where she somehow managed to win the entire fight by doing the exact same thing she had been doing the entire fight but with her just being angrier was just bullshit. Like goddamn.
The leg cracking noise when she punched him in the knee was amazing.
I'd give it a 7.9/10.
