Many people think that, Azarello has no idea how to make a noir crime story or a dark story in general, they always end up edgy and silly at the same time (see: his Before Watchmen: Comedian) so Joker ended up falling flat, too edgy at times (gratitous rape) and ridiculous at others (the gorilla suit thing).
