Kingpin works because he has a lot of shit going on, so Daredevil keeps busy. Kilgrave with his "I just wanna live comfortably at the expense of others, forever", doesn't add up to much, thus leading to our stupid game of catch and release halfway through the season.

And "I just wanna live comfortably at the expense of others, forever" wasn't the whole character for Purpleman, he fucked up people's lives over nothing, his mental problems and obsession over the only person he could not control were kind of a big deal.
