People who were teenagers in the early to mid 2000s, what terrible in hindsight webcomics do you remember reading?
>>
Sinfest (though to be fair, it was before the author went all self-castigating)
Jack
Misfile
>>

Is genderswapped Initial D guy still on Namek?
>>

No idea. Stopped reading mid high school around the time I started with Jack. I regret reading both.
>>
TwoKinds, Jack, 8-Bit Theater, Ctrl+Alt+Del, and Sexylosers are the only ones I can remember the names of. The others were mostly just animu bs.
>>
>>78116623
I got into webcomics via a shitty Wheel of Time sprite comic.

>CAD
>Misfile
>Megatokyo

>>78116824
Sexy Losers was good.
>>
Pretty much everything that was on keenspot in 2005. The last webcomic I was still reading was Sluggy Freelance, which is pretty good, but I haven't read that in the better part of a decade either.
>>
Anyone remember the name of that webcomic that was a fighter and some kind of mage on a standard jrpg adventure only the original kinda comic relief bad guy got put on the back burner because extradimensional angels or something became the bad guys? I think some kinda rogue and a white mage joined up at some point, too.
>>
I used to read Real Life, and by god after not even thinking about it for over a decade I just looked and it's still a thing. And it hasn't changed one god damn bit.

It's honestly like looking into a time portal.

I remember reading something about a squirrel girl and a scientist self-insert and there was gender swapping? I really don't remember much more than that other than she was an experiment some kind and there was a grimdark beastman and that's about when I lost interest.

This was about 5 layers of low level fetish fuel in this comic that I avoided by getting bored of the story so i'd appreciate someone telling me the name so I can thank this guy from saving me from the furry fetish art fate.
>>
>>78117303
El Goonish Shive.

You... really didn't miss much. Since the forever party, he's tried to introduce SJW themes and subtext to justify his fetish comic. Currently, they're helping a gay-married lesbian griffin find its wife.

There were plenty of comics I read as a teen that I no longer care to read, but that doesn't mean they're terrible. Comics like Misfile, College Roomies from Hell, El Goonish Shive - I've outgrown them, but I don't think they're "terrible in hindsight". They just don't appeal to me anymore, and that's okay.

Megatokyo, though? Megatokyo actually pisses me off.

Elf Only Inn comes to mind, but that was actually kind of alright.

Anyone remember a webcomic about different characters hanging out in a mall? I think it had a running gag where someone would always get decapitated by dolphin cum.
>>
Fireball20xl... jesus christ what a time that was. The only good thing to come out of that was Boxer Hockey and Tyson Hesse.
>>
>>78116623
While I always felt DDOFH was incrediblybland I never regretted reading it. I also didn't think it was an awful comic, just kinda...typical. You can see everything coming a mile away, but it was still kinda fun. As for the art, well, it's simple, easy on the eyes, and anime-esque in a good way. Reminds me of Slayers. Why do people hate, loathe even, this comic?
>>
>>78116623
CAD is the main one I read, and the main one I regret due to how long I read it. I think I finally dropped it during the infamous "unfunny black joke" comic where the robot gets a human disguise and they're getting ready to go to the theater. It wasn't offensive or anything, it just kinda made me realize how unfunny the comic was. I also tracked down a /co/ thread (I wasn't on 4chan at the time) mocking it, which led to me finding out how much of a raging creep Buckley was.

Another I regret was Looking For Group, although I can't completely remember now if that was during or after the specified period. Man, that was bad. It wasn't until quite a while after I stopped reading, and started going to 4chan regularly, that I discovered how much of a piece of shit the creator is, too.

There were more, but I can't remember them.

There WAS a time when Megatokyo was funny, spoke to you, and going somewhere. It was the year 2000. It was just late enough that weeaboo culture had started, but early enough that nobody else was parodying how ridiculous weeaboo culture is. Not kidding, it was pretty much the only media to do it properly!

Then everyone grew up, the rest of the internet caught on, and now it just looks awful when you look back on it.

...Of course, that is unless you kept reading when it stopped being a gag-a-day comic. In which case, yeah, you were just retarded.

Bad webcomics - from most bad to least bad (start dates in parentheses):

- New World (2003) (something about anime foxes, adolescent fantasy, not to be confused with the Naylor comic of the same name - http://www.tfsnewworld.com/category/comics/new-world/ )
- Jack (2001) (edge, bad art)
- Plugged Nickel (2003) (unremarkable slice-of-life)
- I Drew This (2004) (unusually stupid political comic I read because Simpson linked to it on Ozy and Millie)
- Suicide for Hire (2004) (edge)
- Las Lindas (2004) (le cow tits)
- Twokinds (2003) (read it because it was popular, nothing happens)
- Better Days (2003) (dumb writing, but the art wasn't too bad)
- Purple Pussy (2001) (dumb gross-out humour, edgy, some interesting Shmorky art from before he hopped on the tranny train)
- Ozy and Millie (1998) (mostly harmless newspaper-style comic, cute art style, shoehorned shaving fetish, every joke was "Zen.", holds a special place in my heart)

Those are the ones I can remember. There are probably plenty of earlier comics that I've forgotten about.

Makin a webcomic in the early 2000 was easy wasn't it? It could suck a 1000 dicks in both the art and writing department, but as long as you had a site and updates frequently it would be popular. I used to post on the megatokyo forum. God, what a shitty forum... I really wish I had never discovered webcomics. They were probably the single biggest waste of time in my childhood. At least video games and actual comic books have a subculture to them that one can actually interact with and even profit off of, but none of my friends ever read the same webcomics as me. I don't even know anyone in real life who read anything other than Penny Arcade and VG cats. Should have just focused on drawing my own comics and writing DBZ fanfiction.

Which one? At one point it was about some dragon-ish things in high school, then the artist broke up with her BF or whatever and baleeted everything. Which was after it had already been rebooted before. Last I saw it got rebooted again into a fantasy thing, I think?

>>78129603
I've been following Sluggy since about 2004-2005. Shit was the usual crazy up until a few years ago, then it went batshit. I'm still checking in every few months just because I've already read this fucking far.

>>78129719
Artist got entangled with some crazy ho, possible charges filed, he's put the comic on hiatus till it's dealt with, but most of the archives are still accessible.

I used to read Misfile, but I got tired of the plot going nowhere ever and gave up, don't remember where. I read the entirety of Kevin and Kell, up until the point where it originally ended. That was years ago and I have no intentions of continuing now it's back. I read all of Mac Hall, which is really far worse of a webcomic than I remember, at least 3 Panel Soul is an improvement. I used to read Sabrina On-Line, don't really remember where I quit, or care. I've read TwoKinds up until something with a tower or dragon or someshit. I have read nearly 400 strips of Dela the Hooda, which I remember being bad even then.

I'm sure I've read even more terrible shit, but I can't be expected to remember every horrible thing I read.

Funny story. I read S.S.D.D. back in the day. I honestly don't know how the half-assed humor, plot, and full-retard level artwork didn't scare me off. But I read the whole thing that was available at the time. Last week I stumbled across something that reminded me of it, and googled it up. It's still running. The art is still full-retard bad.

The main reason is clout.

Don't act like talent is the only reason, because there's plenty of them wasting away in retail.

Things happening on Namek wasn't what made that arc bad.
