do girls like comics?

No. They like Harley and DICK but won't buy the actual comics.

Yes.
>>
>>78098944
No, girls like boys liking girls who like comics.
>>
Girls like to think of themselves as the kinds of people who WOULD like comics.

But no, they don't actually buy them.
>>
>>78098944
Some do, most don't. Just like how some boys like comics, but most don't.
>>
This might surprise you Anon, but yes there are indeed grills who like comics.

They seem to be outnumbered by fat guys in trenchcoats by 100 to 1.
>>
No. The comic thing is identical to every other pop culture trend that women ride. See: emo music scene.
>>
>>78098966
>No. They like Harley and DICK but won't buy the actual comics.

ComiXology, widely considered the iTunes store of comic books in its breadth of selection (and its prices), on Wednesday said readership is changing with the advent of digital comics. A new customer is emerging: She’s 17-26 years old, college-educated, lives in the suburbs, and is new to comics. She prefers Tumblr to Reddit. She may have never even picked up a print comic.

When ComiXology launched six years ago, less than 5 percent of its users were women. Now ladies comprise 20 percent of the site’s readership.

I go to an artschool where plenty of girls read comics. They aren't all into capeshit, in fact most of them aren't but most people in my age bracket aren't. I mean we like the movies but we never grew up with the comics, know what i mean?
that said there's quite a few hardcore capeshit fans at the school. and one of the professors is a professional capeshit artist

They likem o be seen as if they like comics because it is supposed to make them look hotter? The only hot part about girl who likes comics is girl part in my opinion, I wouldn't fuck a paper or superhero emblem.

girls like manga
>>
in print, yaoi was/is huge is America. I used to work in a Borders before they were bankrupt, and man, so many thirsty teenage girls bought guys blowing other guys yaoi. I was personally fascinated that it wasn't age-restricted or regulated in any way, despite being so graphic. Then again, regular romance novels aren't. It was a murky bridge between Harlequin® pulp and carding for Playgirl, but it was/is just a dirty little industry secret that isn't mainstream enough for anyone to have to confront it.
>>
>>78098944
There are some that do. And then there are some that don't.

Then there are a lot that go on tumblr and SAY they like comics, but really they just watch the movies and read any comic that IGN says is good to sound hip.
>>

That's just retarded name for Japanese comics.
>>
They don't like comics. They like liking comics.
>>

I do but I don't like the comic community much. I just go in, grab my pull, and bounce.

It's not really the whole hurhurmraneckbearddudes that keep me out. I just never understood wanting a community based on your side hobby.

So girls like liking comics and boys like hating comics, but neither actually reads comics so who cares.
>>

>I just never understood wanting a community based on your side hobby.

It's cool to have people to talk about yout hobby. If it's other girls who actually like comics, you get the bonus of being able to fawn over hot character X AND also being able to discuss the actual plot.

I got one of my exes into comics. She used to tell me that guys on the train were always hitting on her when they saw her reading. Another one of my exes was already into the Marvel movies, so I put on onto the actual books and she never looked back. We even used to read comics to her nephew (he was always picked on in school for being born premee and Captain America was his hero) and she took me to the comic book museum here in NYC.

Other than those two though I've never met a girl that read comics, only manga

Western companies don't realize how much money they'd make by pandering to the fujoshit market. Japan is smarter in this regard, they know how to make dosh.

Comic companies think women want empowering burka wearing women and Whor-like comics, but the truth is they'd rather buy funny books about dudes holding hands and blowing eachother.

TFW chinese girlfriend makes you store her 8 moving crates full of chinese and japanese comics because she doesn't have room in her apt for more than the 12 that are already there.

Asian girls LOVE their Asian comics. It's more of a Western thing to be a grill and thing they're not for you—but even that is clearly changing.

>but the truth is they'd rather buy funny books about dudes holding hands and blowing eachother.

This, a million times. I don't care if they decide to dress women up in slutty costumes - to each their own, and if dudes enjoy it, why not? But I also want to see men sexualized for me, in an intentional way, and not as a byproduct of being a male power fantasy. (If they also happen to be gay, then even better.)

The closest the western market comes as a whole is acknowledging the fact that fujos watch their show and throwing them a bone (for example, that episode where the Dethklok guys go to a convention and Toki is flattered by being drawn sexily).

>>
>>78099548
Eastern fags don't realize that the artwork in Western comics isn't nearly as rough or cartoony, and consequently takes longer to do. Further, the quality of the Western product is infinitely greater and more costly. Where comics in West can learn is to diversify, market better, and lower costs. Eastern comics beat the shit out of the west in these areas.
>>
>>78099617
>Mostly they don't like comic stores tho

I stopped going to comic stores in my country because I'd always get lectured about not being a real fan or someone would make a thinly-veiled insult.

When I go to one in the US, they are a lot more chill though. Once in a while I even end up talking with the sellers about comics, but most of the time they are more concerned about getting my money than checking my nerd cred.

Whether or not "girls like comics," images like OP are exactly why they'll always have to defend their hobby.

As long as comics, or video games, or fantasy literature is popular enough to be used as a prop for your "exciting lifestyle! I'm so sexy!" photos, people will question it. Add to that the fact that all of those comics in the OP image are pleb-tier "the tv told me to buy it" comics, and the case for women being "legitimate" fans gets even weaker.

That having been said, most of the men who come in to the LCS are pretty fucking inarticulate about anything that's not "their guy" anyway.
>>
>>78100975
After all, it seems like women are perverts too and not much different from men.
>>
>>78099465
This is a feeling I can't shake about most young women, which has led me to a life of degeneracy.
>>
>>78101504

Sad but true. In addition to >>78101462, I find a lot of women over-exaggerate how "nerdy" they are, which I can only assume is a way of defusing any criticism for liking an "uncool thing" by self-applying the "negative" label before someone else can apply it to them.

They know they're "slumming." They're trying to be a big fish in a small pond.

This is, of course, not true for all women, but if it's someone who looks like >>78098944 this and is chewing on her fucking glasses? It's true.

>>
>>78101822
I wonder if part of the problem is just the hyperbolic language young women often use. Think of how many bff's are actually, truly intended to be "best friends FOREVER." Think of how many days are "the WORST day ever."

If any of you have spent any time on Tinder you've seen "I love adventures!!!" and the like all over the 18-30 female demo. Are these women hiring guides and mapping a section of the Yukon? Are they leading a campaign to conquer a chain of Pacific islands?

No. They went to new orleans for the day and took a bunch of selfies in front of the cathedral. ADVENTURE!

Measured, articulate language has never been their strength.

I remember an episode of TBBT where a girl walked into a comic shop and everyone shit their pants. It was so painful to watch. I understand they need to exaggerate things for comedic effect but things aren't like that at all. A girl walks into a LCS in real life and gets treated like everyone else. Same with Gamestop and other "boys only stores".
>>
>>78101954
Fun fact: people who are loud are the people you are most likely hear about.

Another fun fact: Men can exaggerate, too.
>>
>>78101991
Yeah but I'm a heterosexual male so what other men say about themselves is of less than zero interest to me.
>>
>>78101965

I would read this story
>>
>Enter LCS
>Owner is reading a comic, doesn't seem to notice me
>Ask him if he can help me find something
>At the sound of my voice, he looks up and does a double take
>Notices I'm a gril
>Tosses comic aside and pulls rope dangling from ceiling, lights turn from fluorescent white to harsh red and start flashing, siren blares
>Screams over the din: 'GIIIRRRRRRRRRRRLLL'
>Every guy in the store stops what they're doing and runs at me
>They tackle me to the floor
>One by one they take turns raping me
>They each have at least two turns, all the while calling me a 'fake geek' and other slurs
>Eventually they've tired of me and let me go
>As I gather my torn, tattered clothes and stagger out of the store, the owner yells at my back: "OH YEAH, AND BITCH PLANET IS SHIT!"

Is the universe just one big cosmic joke that paired the only sapient life within in it with the worst cosmic horror imaginable? Why?

What about correcting them is alienating? You don't get ostracized for getting a math problem wrong and having someone show you the correct way. I'm seriously baffled how having someone tell you the correct information can trigger you.
>>
>>78102755
OK, so let me get this straight, you are ignorant in areas that you claim to have passion for. When corrected, you are not eagerly embracing new knowledge, but become upset and complain. See, asking shit in order to make conversation is cool. But there's a certain condecending tone that obviously means you are not taking the other person seriously - like guys spouting obscure trivia and then following with a "But I guess you already knew that, since you are a fan of x".

That's annoying and contributes absolutely nothing.

A more specific example I have is one time I went dressed as a Vulcan SF officer to a comic con. One guy walks up to me and ask if I like Star Trek, I say yes. He then proceds to ask me if I know the difference between vulcans and romulans, I say something to the effect of "not exactly, but iirc they are pretty similar because romulans were able to pass as vulcans to humans during the first contact years."

The guy then tells me how wrong I am because my ears are obviously romulan, but romulans weren't part of the federation during that time and so on, then walks away.

One shop is run by a guy I've known over a decade and shares a building with a cofeeshop and a record store. Owner is plugged in to the artist/convention community. Other is downtown, immaculately organized, caters more to indie/GN business. Owner is part of all sorts of professional retailer organizations.

I get completely different industry gossip from each. They each offer different ranges of products. Neither qualify as a "problem" store. This is in south Mississippi. SOMEHOW our region supports both of these exceptional stores.

>Comic companies think women want empowering burka wearing women and Whor-like comics, but the truth is they'd rather buy funny books about dudes holding hands and blowing eachother.

THIS. I don't give two shits if a female character is wearing a skimpy outfit, and forced "grrl power" stuff is actually pretty insulting. I'd much rather more stuff just include more cute or sexy *male* characters for me to enjoy.
>>
>>78102961
I'm a grill who won't go into comic stores and either buys digital or waits for trades and buys them from elsewhere.

An example from a couple days ago is that a guy from my foreign language class suggested some of us meet in his frequented teamspeak server to practice for our oral interviews. I joined in an empty channel and immediately a dude starts the "OMG a GIRL" spiel. He even told me he was 30.
Yesterday, I went through a carwash and the dude that works there saw was pointing energetically at something in my car so I thought he saw something wrong got out to ask. Turns out he was pointing at the dragonite I have in my rearview mirror and he immediately asked if I like manga too (I had on a Superman shirt), "can we be friends?" and gave me his number to "hang out sometime."

In the context of friendship or even some vague association some stuff that nerd guys, for lack of a better term, do is fine but his shit's weird to do to a total stranger.

>>
>>78103230
This is a less-discussed reason for why women get "such shit" in comics.

If you're used to getting a +10 to Charisma in every interaction because the other party thinks they can fuck you, you're gonna have a really fucked up sense of what "nice" actually means. When you meet some guy who is more interested in buying the next issue of Cavewoman, he's not playing the same "conversation" game that you're used to.

>>78103271
And that's the complete other end of the spectrum; Men whose spirit has not been broken yet. They don't yet realize that only high value men can have low value hobbies and expect it to be a conversation starter.

Another found out my birthday and brought me a stuffed bear holding a plushie heart saying "Happy Birthday" on it, again at work. Although I'm sure it's less common that guys experience this compared to women. It's definitely uncomfortable to have strangers ask you if you've read such-and-such sci-fi title, and when you say no, they explain it to you for 5-10 minutes.

I am 100% serious. The idiots who claim that they like cape character X are the worst sort of fake cape comic book geek. Otherwise they would've noticed that these characters are inconsistent and that there's no point in talking about character X outside of specific runs under specific writers.

Like when two people go "Gee, I sure do like Wonder Woman!", one could be talking about Marston's version and the other one could be talking about Kingdom Come. They'd be talking about completely different characters, in any case.

And it's not like Wonder Woman is even a particularily extreme case here - even unimportant Characters like Peter Quill were changed to such a degree that the first version has absolutely nothing in common with the current one or the ones in stories beetween those two.

You want to talk about crippling autism? The foreign language class I mentioned is Japanese. There's one guy that's made the rest of us think twice about continuing with the next level because he is legitimately so low-functioning. Hitting himself in the head with stuff, picking his nose and looking at it, interrupting and shouting over Sensei when she's trying to teach and constantly trying to engage people in conversations about American Ninja Warrior and the stupid John Cena meme. I had just left that class and hit the car wash on the way home. The car wash guy is nothing compared to that.

I was pleasantly surprised overall. The other great one was Dramatic Group Reading of Erotic Manga. Volunteers from the audience were cast to a specific character, and had to read the lines projected on a wall screen aloud on a mic for a group of about 150 people, it was hilarious and a great time. So many people had a hard time doing it with a straight face, and the over-exaggerated sexual dialogue had everyone cracking up. Most western focus conventions don't seem to do these adult panels, but the anime focused ones usually do.
