I have no problem with changing a character's race, sex, etc. In my opinion, comic books are sort of like the modern American mythology. Like, comic books, especially superhero ones, are so ingrained in American culture, I would compare it to mythology. Like, if you go to any non-American country and ask them to list "The most American things ever," I guarantee you that one of the most said answers will be Superman, Batman, Iron Man, or Captain America. So, assuming comic books are to American society as mythology was to ancient Greece (yeah, I know, mythology was also their religion, but in this context I mean their, like, cultural stories), then we've gotta be okay with character changes. Like, in Greek, Norse, Chinese, whatever mythology, one prominent theme is that the gods or characters change depending on who tells the story. In one story, Ra may be a literal bird while in another story he's a dark skinned hunk. The same with comic book characters.

When they change your favorite character's identity, just remember that this is just a different story. The character you grew up loving, they still exist in those stories of them you first read.

I heard so many "good" reviews from /co/, prior to the movie. I heard that it was "deep" and "well-written". What I got was a bunch of shallow, whiny, political and social diatribe from a petulant, bearded old hippy shit who fucks trees and worships snakes to be "edgy", not even mentioning the fact that Moore hates comic book fans.

He focused more on foreign policy than domestic. I think it's pretty arguable that the Bay of Pigs Invasion wasn't a very good idea, too. I think his biggest accomplishment was how he handled the Cuban Missile Crisis, though you could also argue that that could have been avoided by not launching the invasion.

Honestly, I think that the reason people don't share your opinion is that he was assassinated, among other reasons.

Kung-fu Panda 2 is a shoddily written, poorly paced movie.
>Po achieves inner peace by learning that his mother was brutally murdered
>Po somehow has flashbacks to when he was a fucking infant
>Shen's backstory is literally "WAAAAAHHHH MOMMY AND DADDY DIDN'T LOVE ME ENOUGH!"
>The Soothsayer is just a rehash of the turtle from Kung-fu Panda 1
>Shen's plan is to invade all of China with like, seven ships
>The Furious Five fail over and over, getting captured twice
Everything 4chan loves is shit, especially Pixar/Dreamworks movies.

Scott Lobdell has the potential to be a good writer when disconnected from continuity and histories. Like in "Doomed" it was mediocre to average and very readable. I would be interested to see what a creator owned series by him would be like

also, as someone who didn't read pre52 JL

>>
>>78093615
>Humberto Ramos
>best artists

Johns JL has its ups and downs mostly because the first few arcs were clearly written by someone else but Forever Evil and beyond stack up pretty well. Maybe not the best, but still pretty good.
>>
>>78093509
>Geoff Johns is underrated in terms of his ability to almost always have a good chemistry with his artists.

To be honest, when it comes to guys like Francis Manapul, Doug Mahnke, JRJr even Jim Lee, their work with Johns is far from their best.

I'm not saying he had BAD chemistry with them, (though Mahnke has bad chemistry with some of the inkers/colourists for sure), I just don't see your point about having particularly noteworthy chemistry.
>>
>>78093647
he's probably talking about like Reis and Fabok and Frank

he even squeezed an ok product out of Finch
>>
Johnny Test started out meh. Not bad, not good, just ok. It became shit-tier when it went on Cartoon Network.
>>
>>78093647
I'll disagree with you on Mahnke, but I actually agree with you on most of the artists you listed. I was actually thinking of Mike McKone, Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Phil Jimenez, (at times) George Perez, Kolins, etc. There are quite a few artists who've had what are considered defining runs for their careers with Johns (Perez and Jimenez not included in that).

>how do Johns stories compare to like Morrison's or others?
Morrison's JLA is odd. Like it's jam packed full of kidea son every page, and has lots of good character beats and "big action" beats, but it also has a lot of cluttered artwork (the Howard Porter of today draws circles around his late 90s self).

Kelly and Mahnke on JLA is as good as it gets imo, and makes most of Johns stuff feel really weak, or interesting-but-drawn-out-too-long, buuut I'll add the qualifier that I haven't JL in about a year.
>>
Marvel and DC for fags. Books are the best.
>>
>>78093673
This is actually a pretty common opinion for Johnny Test.
>>
I don't get why The Spirit constantly gets revived. The stories by Eisner are great, the actual characters are kind of boring and the appeal has almost nothing to do with them but with the creative storytelling.

>>78084438
I don't think it sucks but I do think it's overrated. For instance like half the characters suck and are boring, like Nite Owl and Silk Spectre are basically just lame white people. The psychic squid stuff is kind of stupid too and Mr Danhattan seems to act stupid just for the sake of the plot when he's supposed to be this great genius. The prose parts at the end of each issue are pretty boring as well, comic book writers tend to write pretty bad prose in general and Alan Moore is not an exception. But there are some positive parts, Rorschach is p cool, and the story does have some interesting themes about time, knowledge, uniting against a common enemy etc, and I like the ending. Also I thought that the movie was more entertaining than the book, which definitely does not deserve to be mentioned alongside books that are actually great, so I won't mention any of them.

The Greeks and Romans often recast myth for political/propagandic purposes. Theseus (hero of Athens) was constantly reshaped to fit the agenda of power in Athens, and there is a long tradition starting with the classical Athenian playwrights of inverting the morality of well-known myths. So it's true that there are parallels between myth and modern redesigning of characters, but that doesn't mean it's always a benign phenomenon.

Also I don't think they ever did anything like turn Perseus into a woman or Penelope into an Ethiopian.
