doing "serious" animation is not good anymore
its need to look like those tumblr cartoons or its trash
>>
>>78077903
>tumblr cartoons
Ugh, your one of those.
>>
>>78077760
It was an animated show that wasn't South Park in Comedy Central.
>>
What show is this?
>>
>>78078176

Moonbeam City

Its already died because of ratings
>>
>>78078176
Moonbeam City, and it was too good for this rotten world.
>>
>>78077760
The music and setting seemed like exactly what I've been wanted in a show, but when I actually watched it, I couldn't keep going. At times it felt like the humor was too forced, though it's more likely that it just wasn't my style.
>>
>>78077760

It wasn't very funny. Too bad because it looked amazing.

It's passable, but better shows have been canceled.
>>
It didn't have that "spark" that other adult oriented cartoons had.

No IT factor.

It was good but not great.
>>
I like the animation and the score but the writing left a bit to be desired, which sucks because I really like the cast a whole lot.
>>
>>78077760
The first few episodes and not being south park or tosh related.
>>
currently downloading episode 10

A Heathcliff panel making me laugh? What the fuck?
>>
>>78077760

Writing is bad. Half of Rad's side stories led absolutely nowhere and barely have an effect on the overall episode. Characters are one dimensional tropes (yes, even Pizzaz). The introduction of new places is meh - whats the point of calling an episode Circuit Lake if nothing happens at Circuit Lake? Why did they introduce the denizens of P-174 if they only have 20 seconds screen time? Moonbeam City had potential but bad writing killed it.

>>

Comedy Central shows rarely go past season 1.
If this was Adult Swim, it might have lived. The 1 AM slot for new episodes was a death sentence.
>>
>>78082379

That and the majority of the jokes is POLICE BRUTALITY LAMO! EVERYTHING WOULD BE BETTER IF THE COPS WERENT FUCKING ASSHOLES AMIRIGHT MY LIBERALS?

What makes Archer good is that the conflicts are always grey areas where you don't know who to really support or like. It makes for both great comedy, drama and interactions among characters.
>>
>>78083501

Well it does have to have a police theme, it is a show about a PD after all.
>>
>>78082631
Yes he is.
>>
South Park related maybe? I'm not sure, I think the creators of Drawn Together blame the shows cancellation after season 3 are because Matt and Trey hated it or something.
>>
Incidentally the best episode is the first.

Moonbeam City is serious? Like, actually serious, not like those meme-depression cartoons like Rick and Morty and Bojack Horseman?
>>
>>78083501
If we ignore the bullshit that this post is seeped in, it's not entirely wrong.

It's like Archer if all the redeeming (and entertaining) bits of the characters were removed. What happens is that you end up with characters who are caricatures of characters who were already sort of caricatures.

I'm not saying that Archer is a masterpiece of character studies or anything, but when you compare it to Moonbeam City, you can kind of see why MC failed.
>>
>>78083796
He means the animation looks serous.
Moonbeam City is like a shittier Archer.
>>
>>78083650
>What is a "Tumblr" cartoon?

-amateurish art direction, usually looking like flat notebook doodles and tries to hard to pass off the lack of skill as "charming" (AT, RS, Sanjay and Craig, Breadwinners, Gravity Falls, OtGW, Long Live the Royals, Bee and Puppycat, Bravest Warriors, Star and the Forces of Evil, Clarence)
-attempts at idiosyncratic and "natural" dialogue that ends up sounding robotic. Usually has a lot of modern or made-up slang. "Man, this day was total butt. We needs to go get out munchichies on, ya' know what I'm saying?" (AT, RS, GF, Steven Universe, SaC, BW, CH, OtGW, Star)
-a romance plot that's taken seriously and is also the plot of a lot of episodes. The male is a beta wimp and the girl is a "laid-back" character (AT, RS, SU, GF, SaC, BWarriors, BaP).
-a lot music, usually either a freestyle serenade or pixeltune shit (AT, RS, GF, Clarence, SU, SaC, BW, CH, BWarriors, Manly, Star)
-voice actors that sound like they picked random people from the street (all of them)
-fake 80s montages (RS, SaC, BW, Star, SU)
-limited amount of expressions, most of them being ":-T" (all of them)
>>
>>78083799
>If we ignore the bullshit that this post is seeped in
brah why are you getting so butthurt over liberals being made fun of
i bet you post "back to /pol/" all of the time
>>
>>78077760
Most of the characters were unoriginal, especially for animated shows. It didn't have much else to offer other than dick jokes. It would have done better on another channel as a drama with occasional jokes.
>>
>>78083842
>shittier Archer
Its way more Metalocalypse than Archer.
>>
>>78082379
Pretty much this. I thought the first episode was good myself, but by episode two, Dazzle was already getting fat making a movie in the desert and Rad was talking about how he liked the poo poo in his mouth.

Granted it's a CC show, but maybe people actually do want a semi-season high concept animated show instead of the vulgarity.
>>
>>78083986
>way more metalocalypse
FUCKING THIS

so tired of you jackasses describing MC with any variation of Archer

yes great you figured out that theyre both adult cartoons but theres a lot more to both of them than that

yes i mad
>>
>>78077760
Dazzle didn't have any staying power to fuck Pizzazz more than four times in a row at Cop-Con.
>>
>>78077903
>serious
google patrick nagel you millennial
>>
>>78077760
its archer with better art but less comedy
>>
Nothing, I love this show.
>>
>>78083879
Was it AT that started the shitty slang thing? I mean, shitty slang has been around since before American Dragon Jake Long, but the specific slang they're using all sounds like it's in the same apartment.

Like, did all the creators go to college together or something? Were they the weird fucks who sat huddled around a table giggling at their own excrement?
>>
They should head in a Frisky Dingo direction and have episodes pretty much focus all on character interaction.
It's good enough for a second season and I hope it gets one.
>>
>>78083799
I totally agree. Archer characters have a lot of going for them in terms of their relationships, backgrounds, personal quirks and what not. Moonbeam City characters are totally flat for the sake of cheap laughs at their grotesque personalities. Kinda reminiscent of Metalocalypsis. I still enjoyed both shows though.
>>
>>78085716
>Nothing, I love awful cartoons
>>
>>78084425
I know about the Metalocalypse link, but it still has a lot of similarities to Archer. Both shows are about agencies and their personal. Both have charming sociopaths Bond expies for the main characters, who have shallow sexual relationships with women they work with, get side tracked by booze and sex and fuck their field work in most spectacular way possible. The plot structure is pretty similar.
>>
Archer - sacrificed animation for better comedy writing.
Moon Beam City - Sacrificed writing for better animation.

Moonbeam city died because even though it was pretty to look at on the outside, it was empty and hollow on the inside. Archer on the other hand keeps its fan base with clever writing, so its not pretty ever, but its never hollow.
>>
Woah episode 10 is all about Rad. It's actually good! Just wish episodes 2-9 were as good.
>>
>>78087189

> Coherent plot
> Rad doesn't suck
> Nod to past episodes
> Nod to 'gunshot wounds on main characters'
> Pizzaz isn't just a pretty face
> Chrysalis adrenaline rush
>>
>>78083796
People really found Rick and Morty depressing? That's just embarrassing.
>>
>>78077760
It was aired on Comedy Central. It had a weak start but really picked up past episode 3.
>>
>>78077903
that's not why people don't like it. The dialogue is just weak, lacks delivery, and feels too try-hard.

In my opinion, it's watchable for the unique artstyle but just isn't funny. Maybe in a different universe where not all western cartoons are forced to be humor-centric, a Moonbeam city with serious plotlines and maybe a quip here and there could be great. But it just isn't meant to be.
>>
80's color-palette = trash.

I've thrown away production bibles for less; the 80's was awful for color.
>>
>>78077760
The first 2 episodes were aired first.
>>
>>78080275
>It's not very good
Yeah pretty much this.
I liked it but it lacked something, Dazzle was too apathetic and the most human one was Pizzaz.
>>
>>78083501
>implying the joke wasn't on liberals who seriously believe that sort of thing
>>
>>78083501
Yeah, this is true and this is why it has lived for so long.

It is a real shame tought, Moonbeam city was very pretty to look at and had some kickass music. I also liked Pizzaz.

Anyone has the gif where Dazzle and Pizzaz are fucking?
