I believe the problem is just that CW completely messed up the advertisement of this episode. People thought the crossover was the midseason finale and missed the next episode. We didn't even see a promo for episode 9 until days before it aired, instead of right after episode 8. CW can only blame themselves on this one, they fucked up.
