This. I'm a big fan of shows with tons of lore (Venture Bros in particular) but you can't bring that expectation to all shows. Samurai Jack was/is great partly because of its simplicity. The episodic style worked well enough that the plot didn't NEED to move forward.

Animation is in a funny place right now. Pixar gave us the notion that feels are what make money, and feels alone. We've watched them face plant a few times because of it.
It's very very hard to tear people/studios away from money making schemes, even if they're harmful as a whole to society.
Animation, if it sheds these very strange views of things, can be saved before it ultimately collapses under it's own self righteous weight.
Beavis and Butthead were not popular shows back when they were first airing, however over time they grew more and more influential. I can't tell you how many times Regular Show brought me back to Beavis and Butthead snorting on a couch.
That's not the direction children's animation should be going. It narrows the focus to the type of people who are okay with their kids watching Beavis and Butthead Lite.
Fixing the problem with animation is far more difficult than the morals of the story it tells. It's much deeper. Acceptance is what drives a lot of modern animators and producers.
The best example of a bad idea becoming the staple of something, is The Death of Superman. That is effectively what emotion based logic in screenwriting has done for animated entertainment.
Animators shape the story around what is acceptable to the audience. Which is probably the worst method of story telling in my opinion, especially when dealing with children's entertainment.

I do.. Beavis and Butthead were not household names until about the beginning of the 2000s while they were steeped in syndication having finished their original run in 1997. They were born on MTV when MTV was just getting it's feet under itself, but still not widely accepted by parents as appropriate for children.
Beavis and Butthead were on a such a late time frame because of their content that most of their target audience was already asleep when it aired. You have to remember, TV programming 24/7 was still very new at the time, it hadn't even been around a whole generation yet.

That's why it was so popular. It was one of the first controversial cartoons to hit the airwaves. It caused moral panic in the 90s.

This show may resonate with today's youth because it emphasizes a use of emotional logic, which Pixar does. Pixar is widely known, and accepted by parents. Steven Universe parrots the narrative with different visuals.
Emotional Logic ignores the factual nature of the world, for what feels good, what feels right, what feels fair. Essentially, breeding a group of people who don't understand that life isn't fair.
Samurai Jack was a story almost entirely shaped around the idea that life isn't fair. Jack didn't get to have a childhood, his mother and father were distant memories to him until he reach adulthood, and by then they had had love and hope beaten out of them.
Steven Universe preaches a story where emotional logic is the rule by which all things in the story are shaped, thus renders the story itself, useless as children's entertainment goes.
You have to understand, every piece of media there is, is feeding information into your mind. Teaching you behaviors, reactions, and methods of reasoning.
Gravit Falls, Steven Universe, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Wonderful World of Gumball, RWBY, Avatar, etc. are all stories told from a base of emotional logic.
Add to that, characters cannot be overtly masculine, or they are made into villains. Remember when Finn found the vikings that fought all the time, and made them change what made them happy, because a mountain was sad watching it? What do you suppose that taught the 8 year old watching it?

In these stories, your bitching on the internet, being butt hurt about it, would make Fox see the error of their ways, and surrender the rights to those franchises at no cost to Marvel Studios.
Emotional Logic is wrong, it's emphasizing ideal reality, versus factual reality.
Emotions are fine, everyone has feels, and I've yet to meet someone that doesn't get choked up when a character is going through a serious loss, that you the audience had been brought along to share in that sensation.
That kind of emotion in storytelling is required to fulfill the cycle of interest in a character or story.
Basing an entire story off of emotion becomes boring, cliche, and tiring. That's why Edgelord programming like Legend of Korra couldn't hold on to it's place in the sun, why people rejected Beware the Batman, and show like Naruto produce an audible sigh out of seasoned viewers.
The blurring of the lines between genders isn't necessarily a bad thing, allowing boys to feel sorrow, and girls to feel aggression isn't bad. But forcing that exchange is, and that's what these shows do. They force the audience to accept the narrative that emotion changes the outcome, when it's only supposed to enhance the journey.

Emotional logic has trained you to see tragedy as universal. That sorrow can be a uniting factor within the human condition.
Instead, the reality is, suffering is not universal, pain is not universal, your sorrow is nothing to be considered similar to another's suffering.
Steven, Jack, and Clark/Kal-El all have varying degrees of pain, and very different methods of dealing with it. The choice to do something positive with that pain is purely in the hands of the writer. Any one of them could've chosen to become Lex Luthor, the Joker, or any other villain who used their sadness to fuel their anger.
Emotional logic has also told you that that choice isn't decided until the character has made that choice. In reality, bad people are bad from the beginning. No adult witnesses tragedy and leaves a life of helping orphans to go kill killer whales. That's just silly. But emotional logic would tell you that anybody's tears can be tears of rage, pain, or joy. Which isn't the case at all. In order to go bad, you must first have bad within you.
Jack and Superman are characters who's identity, righteousness, and pureness of heart are based around their actions, not their will to do good things.
