>I may as well be GAY for DICKS now
>>
Also holy shit her eyes are terrifying without glasses and they're turning Danny's eyes terrifying too.
>>
What's ProJared doing in this comic?
>>
He is blushing over his blush!
>>
>>78052466
Willis's dot eyes are disgusting.
>>
I am actually kind of psyched at the idea of Danny admitting he's leaning bi instead of it being some drawn-out secret love triangle thing. It feels somewhat more realistic.

Now that Warboss Hamfist is over with maybe the comic can settle into comfortable mediocrity again.
>>
>>78054166
What if he got molested and there's more antiparent stuff?
>>
>>78054166
>>78054265
Watch it be something like "I have a foreskin."
Or wait, did these two already have sex? I already forgot who she fucked in that one porn comic.
>>
>>78054166
Amber is going to be pissed. At least if Willis sticks with her characterization. Ethan already dumped her on prom night by realizing he was gay. Her new boyfriend admits he maybe attracted to a guy? Would freak her out.
>>
>>78054353
Alternatively she suggests a Chasing Amy threesome. She already enjoys gay sex between men she finds attractive, based on her fanfiction.
>>
>>78054353
It's worse, since Danny is attracted to the same gay guy who dumped her.
>>
>>78054304
Danny. Yes, they already got sex.
>>78054265
>more antiparent stuff
This comic is in no way specifically anti-parents.
>>
>>78054353
>Ethan already dumped her on prom night by realizing he was gay. Her new boyfriend admits he maybe attracted to a guy? Would freak her out.
It's even worst. The guy that made Danny realising he was bi IS ethan.
>>
>>78054450
Because DA PATRIARCHY.
>>
>>78054450
>Its 2015
>>
>>78054410
>Yes, they already got sex
Ah, that's what I thought. Thank you.

>This comic is in no way specifically anti-parents.
Except for the numerous uses of harsh parenting as a metaphor for systemic oppression and also David Willis' own hangups.
>>
>>78054450

100% Gay:
Ethan
Becky
Robin(?)
Feminist Studies Professor(?)
Ruth(?)

50% Gay:
Danny
Billie

Gay Dinosaur:
Dina
>>
>>78054450
Blame feminism and weep.
>>
>>78054553
Robin and Ruth are Bi
>>
>>78054683
But they are only shown having homosexual relationships, so the straight side of their bi-ness is practically non-existent.
>>
>>78054450
Willis liked writing gay characters in shortpacked and I guess he went fucking apeshit with it. And if anyone says it bugs them he labels them as a homophobe. He takes pride in how gay his comic is.
>>
>>78054827
Why would it matter though? Like who cares if his comic has 10 trillion gays in it, let's focus on how the writing is shit people.
>>
>>78055050
Well, the gayness is part of why the writing is shit.

Because most of the story is about how the characters are gay

And that's why we're supposed to feel for them, because they're gay. They like banging clams together instead of reproducing.
>>
>>78054498
>Except for the numerous uses of harsh parenting as a metaphor for systemic oppression and also David Willis' own hangups.
Except there are fr more good parent that bad ones in his comic.
>>
Okay, so more off the top of my head...

Gay:
Ethan
Becky
Feminist Studies Professor

Bi:
Danny
Billlie
Ruth

Straight:
Walky
Dorothy
Joyce
Mike
Joe
The Black Guy
The Bitchy Blonde Who Knows Ruth and Billie Are Fucking
Sal
British Guy
British Guy's Sister
Amber
The Black Chick Who Is Always Pissed Off

Gay Dinosaur:
Dina

3 gay, 3 bi, one gay dinosaur, the rest straight.

That's really not an overwhelming amount of gay. You just don't like it when stories have too many gays in them.
>>
>>78055092
Name one set, that we have met, besides Dina's

>bad parents
Joyce - psycho christians
Walky and Sal - interracial racists
Joe - divorced womanizer, no idea about mom
Becky - psycho christian
Ethan - amber had to defend Ethan against his family when he came out
Amber - abusive, maybe molesting, father
>>
>>78055123
Also, Uni is know to have far more concentrations of gays.
>>
>>78055123
>British Guy's Sister
The Red hair one? They are not sibling.
>>
>>78055087
Fair enough.

I think that might be confusing intention with the actual problem though, like Willis writes Becky and she's a complete Mary Sue plot wizard, that's the actual issue.

Why does he write her like that? Cause he wants her to be lesbian.

Aside, What is wrong with Willis? What were his parents doing to him to make him this retarded, like I disagree with my parents retarded shit all the time but I didnt feel the need to make 20 years of comics documenting my butthurt.
>>
>>78055169
I can do more:
Danny's parents
Dorothy's parents
Amber's mom
Joe's father (who despite being a womaniser, is actually portrayed positively)
Roz's parents

In contrast with less good parents:
-the walkerton's parents
-Joyce's parent
-Ethan's Parents

And the really awgfull one:
-Amber's father
-Becky's father
>>
>>78055087
>>78055244
Not really. The gayness is just a part of the plot.

There is much more going than gay stuffs, but it's just a part of the story, the same way romance and and love interest is part of all slice of life comics.
>>
>>78055244
>Aside, What is wrong with Willis?
Basically, he grew up in a family that basically taught him that if he didn't follow a series of arbitrary ruleset, he will burn horribly for eternity in hell.
>>
>>78055244
>I think that might be confusing intention with the actual problem though, like Willis writes Becky and she's a complete Mary Sue plot wizard, that's the actual issue.
>Why does he write her like that? Cause he wants her to be lesbian.
Becky is in no way featured perfect. She does some questionable stuff too. she is just painted as a victim for valid reasons, but currently her characterisation make sense, after years of being shut in, she is finally free to be who she want to be and she extravert herself by pushing the knob to eleven.
>>
>>78055410
On a daily basis.
>>
>>78052983
Sucking dicks, duh.
>>
>>78055123
This.

What is weird is the number of gays on one floor of one dorm building.
>>
>>78055244
Imagine being surrounded, every day, by people that are constantly watching you for slip-ups regarding some arbitrary ruleset, who will judge you and proclaim that things you're doing/thoughts you're having/things you like are literally evil on an elemental level and are going to send you to a place of eternal and indescribable agony. That for having those naughty thoughts about the girl next do you will be going to be lumped with Hitler and Stalin in the lake of fire unless you pray real hard and beg and beg and beg and then just MAYBE you won't be tortured forever.

Willis is pretty terrible at dramatic writing, but I will fully acknowledge that he had shitty circumstances. I'm surprised he isn't more militant an atheist.
>>
>>78055123
You forgot the head newspaper chick.

So that's 8 gay out of a character pool of 20, or 40% gays

That's too many gays

Don't forget Marcie, Sal's friend is also gay for Malaya (who's undetermined atm)
And Carla who is a transgirl.
>>
>>78055783
>Don't forget Marcie
9 out of 21
43% gays
>>
>>78055782

Why is it too many gays?
>>
>>78055786
You can get away from those people from clicking off tumblr.

A kid can't get away from their family.
>>
>>78055910
It's several standard deviations higher than normal. It's artificial.
>>
>>78055410
>>78055708
Sound like my home lol.

I remember times where my parents would lock me in a cramped closest and just leave me there, I used to be so angry all the time and I wanted them to realize how fucked up they were but eventually I realized that people like that don't change.

They aren't the worst people, I could have had Joaquin's Phoenix parents who let him get raped repeatedly by older men as part of their cult . They abused me a lot, they put me down a lot, still their my parents and in some regards they in a misguided way cared about me so I still try to spend as much time with them as I can handle and allow them to be a part of my life in some capacity.

I don't think it's healthy though to obsess over it an allow it to hang over everything in your life, but after thinking about it I can see how he got to be this way. Still, I don't know if he's making personal progress because even like 10 years ago, his comics were not this whiny about his folks.

>>78055376
That's what I wrote essentially, them being gay really shouldn't be an issue, the poor writing is what actually matters.

>>78055459
Mary Sue is the wrong word, it's more like she's the opposite of one. She doesn't bend the plot, instead the plot bends for her and I think that's in a way poor writing. Like instead of having Becky have her moment and confront her dad, or have to make a hard decision, the actions of other characters dictate everything that happens to her and all her problems were solved by the absurdity of the plot.

>>78056428
Who cares if they're well written, actually who cares in general? Like how distributions work, there is going to be some group of people who have 40% of them being gay. It's not the norm but who really gives a shit. We don't read stories for the norm.
>>
>>78056428
>>78056655
It's like when people get mad when more than 50% of the cast of something is non-white because they've never experienced it. But where I go to school I'd say only 30-40% of the people are actually white.
>>
>>78056428

I dunno, I went to a school in the middle of fucking white bread Protestant/Catholic Iowa and there more gay people in our little campus than I'd ever seen in my life.

>it's artificial.

This always struck me as a weird complaint. It is a fictitious world that broadly resembles our own, but exaggerates the daily issues of college students--and the amount of students discovering themselves as or coming out as gay--to a cartoonish degree. Should we take the superhero story out, too? And Robin being a senator is too far-fetched, the characters are statistically unlikely to attend the same college as the relative of a famous politician. TWO British TAs at one random-ass school? That's pretty unlikely. And so on...

I guess I'm going full Burch here, but I do not give a fuck and do not understand why others give a fuck if there are more minorities "than usual" in a given story, nor do I feel that authors should generally have to "justify" adding gay, trans, blind, burn victim, whatever characters to a setting that might not otherwise have them.

"I made that guy Asian because I decided I wanted an Asian guy."

"Yeah, she's a lesbian. There's a lot of lesbians on their floor."

Why are either of these, in and of themselves, problems? We can talk about how Willis tries and fails to USE the characters and traits in question (because he does, he's a workhorse but a hack)...but I'm getting tired of hearing "but why are there so many fags" whenever more than one gay dude shows up in a work of fiction.
>>
>>78052452
It would be hilarious if this guy turned out to be a necrophiliac or pedophile or both instead of gay like that tumblr pig is obviously expecting.
>>
>>78056713
You sound like the kind of guy who would complain constantly if the characters were all straight and white
>>
>>78056921

Funnily enough if they were all straight and white it'd be totally unlike my bumfuck Iowa college experience, but no, not really.

I suppose I don't mind Willis going full Burger Kids Club with his cast as much as others(though I suspect it's more a checklist so he can score some sweet, sweet anti-privilege points), but the whole "my sexuality defines who I am" is pretty annoying.
>>
The problem with the notion of making a Burger King Kid's Club out of a cast is that it's often done unnaturally or at the expense of characters who existed previously.

"Hey, guys, this guy I borrowed a skateboard from? He's a gay Muslim and is totally now a part of our entourage!"
"Remember that one guy from years ago? I miss him. Good thing we have this other guy who is exactly the same, except he's a black version of the first guy!"

If you can write completely natural reasons for people to exist at that very moment that they are introduced other than "Because it's 2015", then I won't complain.
>>
>>78056743
def pedo. tumblr is into that now, defending and promoting it.
