degenerate weirdo or avant-garde visionary?
>>
>>78032104
Yes.
>>
>>78032104
so many negroes on his movies...

but it's literally the father of modern adult cartoons
>>
I put his movies on when I get high. Even last unicorn is nuts when you're high.
>>
you guys ever watch spicy city? i don't think it gets enough love in the bakshi oeuvre
>>
Does he even do shit anymore? Any projects?
>>
>>78032152
>but it's literally the father of modern adult cartoons
Which is nothing to be proud of
>>
Coonskin is literally one of the most under appreciated movies in the world. Too bad the niggers in charge of southern poverty law center were too stupid to realise that the movie was made by fellow blacks so they torpedoed his career for decades.

>>78032234
I've got it sitting somewhere on one of my hard drives and from the one or two episodes I saw it was breddy good 8/10. A bit lighter than most of his older work but still the same kind of feel to it.
>>
>>78032198
what would you say offers the best experience?
>>
>>78032490
apparently last days of coney island was released this past october, but i'm just hearing about this now.
>>
>>78032490
Last days of coney island is apparently done/almost done and there was a preview screening for backers last month. Other than that I doubt he'll be making a lot of anything in the future since he has no mainstream appeal.

>cartoons must be childish, colored, friendly, with family gentle hipster humor and butterflies like Pendleton Ward or Rebecca Sugar stuff, because it's so "creative" with shipping for my gay fanfics or visually sterile edgy sitcoms by writers and comedians who could not give an iota of a fuck how something looks because it's just a vehicle for jokes, don't forget the feels and relateable self destructive characters for twenty somethings to project onto
>nothing inbetween these two categories of cartoon
>>
>>78033021
> woaw i'm so neutral ! i want pure classic cartoon network and nickelodeon cartoons, 90s preteens cartoons are the only way to make good cartoons or they must be dramas simpsons-like stuff and deep hipster references if they are for adults because is so intellectual, long live the big cock of doug walker

I think it's great that you're so good at projection, you would have been a hell of an employee back when movie theaters were still new, up in the box handling the film
>>
>>78032104
Degenerate visionary.
>>
>>78032135
This. It's the only correct answer.

The only label for true artists.

Why you talk about your own faggotry fetish ?
>>
His work on Mighty Mouse lead the way to the modern creator- and storyboard- driven series animation renaissance. He is part of the reason we have things like the modern Cartoon Network with stories told by artists as art instead of commercials for toys. Now, the extra support merchandise provides might actually be a better model for churning out episodes, but that's a way different model that might not be tenable given parents' groups.
>>
>>78032104
A really good cartoonist and painter trying to be an animator and sucking at it.
>>
>>78033021
Is that still from the film or the BBC documentary? Or...NEITHER?!
>>78034342
I respectfully disagree on both counts, his cartoons are pretty good but his paintings...especially his recent stuff showcased in his last big coffee-table career-overview book (can't remember the name of it, my friend lent me it last year--great book, though! 'Specially the Frazetta anecdotes)...those paintings are tremendously awful. But I dunno, even though I kind of hate what he did to Crumb I still think he's a visionary. Lord of the Rings is a total embarrassment, though....Coonskin makes, I dunno , Do The Right Thing look like Sesame Street (I'm SURE I saw a video where Spike Lee said it was his very favourite, or one of his favourite, films, EVER) and Human Traffic is wicked.
>>
I respect him for being innovative, but he's not a very good director.
>>
>>78032104
I love his movies. Should I apologize for that?
>>
>>78032605
Heavy traffic if you want to have a crazy time. Last unicorn if you want to chill and get your feels on. The lord of the rings ones are kind of underwhelming. And fritz the cat 1 is way better than 9 lives. coon skin is ok, wizards is hit or miss for me depends if the slow pacing fucks it up or not. and cool world is just kind of boring. But i don't like cool world even normally. Over all heavy traffic is the most fun.

what about...
American Pop?
>>
>>78035149
Hell no!
>>
>>78036414
Good, because I feel like people have very low tolerance for something that is a little outside of their comfort zone.
>>
>>78032104
Somewhere in between, as the truth usually is. He's made some good stuff that I respect him for. He's made some stuff that makes me roll my eyes.

Magnum opus.

All kidding aside, I love Bakshi's work, regardless of quality.
>>
>>78036395
I haven't watched that one yet. I might do that tonight though.
>>
>>78037189
Then don't waste your time with retards, on a board for special people, and go watch it.
It's a great piece of cinema. But like with all Bakshi's movies, it's not the plot that counts, but the way it's delivered. It's also partialy a musical.

I am not a fan of musicals but I do love me some bakshi so I'll check it out. I'm about to pack a bowl while some one plays max payne, so no time like the present. I'll report back when i remember to maybe.
>>
>>78037656
Well, I hate musicals and I liked American Pop.
The only thing annoying about this movie is actually the beginning with the pogroms - a mandatory martyrology by the chosen people. But I can live with that.

I would have honestly loved Fritiz the Cat if it wasn't the "Cat" and the whole movie would have just used human characters so I don't feel like a sick furry fuck.
>>
American Pop is genuinely one of the best animated movies ever made. I find everything else that he does to be very uneven.

damn charlie bit that santas neck holy fuck

i feel cold and alone but im still toasty warm. its fucked my hands are so cold.
>>
no pay off in his films. I need balance. I'm okay with gratuitous violence as long as there's some kind of philosophical balance. Like how in ghost in the shell they pick apart what makes us human, then they show us cyborg tits. Bakshi is hardcore the whole time.
>>
>>78032104
If it's the latter, it would be the reason why /co/ doesn't talk about him or his influence on animation
