He is part of the reason we have things like the modern Cartoon Network with stories told by artists as art instead of commercials for toys. Now, the extra support merchandise provides might actually be a better model for churning out episodes, but that's a way different model that might not be tenable given parents' groups.

I respectfully disagree on both counts, his cartoons are pretty good but his paintings...especially his recent stuff showcased in his last big coffee-table career-overview book (can't remember the name of it, my friend lent me it last year--great book, though! 'Specially the Frazetta anecdotes)...those paintings are tremendously awful. But I dunno, even though I kind of hate what he did to Crumb I still think he's a visionary. Lord of the Rings is a total embarrassment, though....Coonskin makes, I dunno , Do The Right Thing look like Sesame Street (I'm SURE I saw a video where Spike Lee said it was his very favourite, or one of his favourite, films, EVER) and Human Traffic is wicked.
I respect him for being innovative, but he's not a very good director.

And fritz the cat 1 is way better than 9 lives. coon skin is ok, wizards is hit or miss for me depends if the slow pacing fucks it up or not. and cool world is just kind of boring. But i don't like cool world even normally. Over all heavy traffic is the most fun.
