Because this is a few tens of thousands of sales at the higher end, he's worth commissioning for some publishers. Occasionally. Todd McFarlane is a similarly egotistical prick who spent decades fighting over Angela, a bit-player in Spawn who, according to contract, was owned by *her* creator, not the series creator; this despite setting up Image to champion creator-owned properties. His assholery is so great we now have to suffer Angela in GotG, just because it sticks it to McFarlane.
Jack Kirby had a real temper on him. He almost argued himself out of work many times; he also gave himself a punishing schedule that hurt his friendships and probably his career.

He only needed to adhere to the golden rule of not missing deadlines. What does he go and do? I'll throw another /co/ douchebag out there. Patrick Harpin. He was a story guy on Clarence and hated Skyler Page. So when the sexual harassment controversy started, he was one of the first people to grab a torch and pitchfork. He claimed Skyler did nothing to contribute towards the stories of Clarence, and that it had been him for the most part.
So he figured by burning Skyler Page at the stake, he'd be able to move up the ladder for Clarence and take over the show. The flaw in his plan though, was that he spread his evil plan monologue all over tumblr. And CN executives do not like loose lips, it undermines their authority. So he got the axe too!
Fuck him. We'll see how Clarence turns out in this next season.

I work in a small business, and though my knowledge is limited, I've learned that no matter what kind of deal you strike, you fucking cover your ass in as many ways you can with legal documentation.
So this company just goes and spends almost all his money on making a game that isn't his. He doesn't communicate this though because he's on a super hiatus. The fans endlessly defend his artistic need to rest. A year goes by, and that's when he reveals all that free money he collected has gone to shit. His fans will get a game, but it won't ever have the full potential it was supposed to have since more than 50% of the backing was spent. So what does he do? He goes on another HIATUS!

Let me offer great story. Skyler, was apparently "mentally ill" and sexually harassed a lady who worked on Adventure Time. He groped her in the breakroom when no one was around. It's shitty, but that's all that happened. No rape, dick in the face, or 100 plz send nudes texts.
After going to the executives at Cartoon Network about the issue, she told a co-worker of hers about the issue. The executives pretty much decided on the spot that Skyler Page would be let go, and that would be the end of it. Her co-worker decided to SJW the situation on tumblr and tell the WORLD that Skyler Page is a rapist molester who kicks puppy dogs. You know, typical tumblr essay format.
So a wild fire arose from the whole fiasco. The tumblr army brigaded Page within hours and suddenly he became "mentally ill."
The story ends with Page tied to a hospital bed, occasionally popping in and out of the Clarence character and other voices he did. He lost full control over his show. His storyboard writer tried to take his position, and his family was brigaded by tumblrinas calling for his head. All because a co-worker of the offended female went full SJW.
The girl who got harassed had to come out and post an article chastising both Page and her co-worker. And then said she was fine with how CN executives handled the situation.
