I don't know how deep it is but the popular interpretation is that the "fairies" for lack of a better term are all parts of Aurora's personality and the book is about how one must lose parts of one's personality to survive and grow.

>>78017133
Kerascoet is two people and asking Fabien Vehlmann might be more productive, I'm unsure how much the Kerascoet team provides in terms of the writing, beyond the normal writing duties of the artists.

I agree. Nothing good comes from extending a story beyond it's ending.
>>

Oh wait, that was it already? Huh.
I still shouldn't have read this before bed, probably.
Oh well. "Beauty" remains my favourite of theirs. This one's a bit too disturbing for me.
>>
So many questions that can't be answered but probably don't matter anyway because thats not the point and there's no plot.
Like I don't even know if the little girl got murdered or she just dropped dead from something like eating a toxic mushroom, what the man is building and is the man her dad(he's obviously a drunk but i can't imagine them living together in that small ass shack), wtf happened with Jane, etc.

This was cool though, thanks. I'd been meaning to read it.

Part 2 of what? The tale is for the most part over.

Here are links if you would like them. I highly recommend adding any and all of Kerascoet's work to your shelves, their books are shockingly cheap.

It might be strange, but my main criticism with the story might be that it presents itself as horro, but never really gets you invested in the characters enough to dread their demise (because the little fairy folk are scarcely even intelligent enough to show any self-awareness with few exceptions) so it just ends up being a string of disturbing deaths.

I am sure it is presenting another point from this though, but I just can't figure out what it is for sure. It's a lord of the flies scenario but it doesn't seem like it's going for the same message.

I think it's spooky that they don't even care that their friends died.

It's like that for some of the characters that appear to have their wits about them more, but I was more referring to scenes like here >>78016103 where the green shirted fairy seems only capable of recognizing what had occurred for an instant before going back to a state of blissful ignorance. it feels like only a select few of them are truly self aware and that's always sort of stopped me from thinking it as a horror book, it seems more philosophical, but it's meaning is difficult to ascertain, likely intentionally so.

Will we ever solve the mystery of why this solitary fly made Aurora so sad?

Out of all the unexplained/ambiguous things in the comic, this bugs me the most.

>>78016795

I find it particularly gross that they just ate the thing raw. Then again, considering how accident prone these little guys are, it wouldn't have been a good idea for them to mess around with fire.

>>78016962

Princess Zelie did everything wrong.

>>78017098

When this comic was first storytimed, someone made a really good post about how this references and subverts various fairy tale tropes, but I never screencapped it.

Should we make a list of all the ambiguous/unknown details of the comic?

>How did the little girl die?
>Why did she have these little creatures inside her? Is it like Inside Out and everyone has little people inside them?
>Why did Aurora have the same name as the little girl? Is she the girl's spirit/soul and the other people are other aspects of her mind and personality?
>Why was Jane so distrustful of the man in the woods?
>What is the man in the woods relation to the little girl, if any? Is he bad or good?
>Why did the fly make Aurora sad?
>Why does Timothy have a guy's name?
>What happened to the mother of the babby Timothy adopted? Did the mouse kill her (we see it wearing her clothes later in the story)?
>What happened to Jane at the end of the story? Did she run away and leave her bird, or was she overpowered by Zelie's goons?

Am I forgetting anything?

>>78017314

Can't help but feel a little bad for Specs though. She was the only one in the group who stuck up for Aurora and was treating her nicely.

>>How did the little girl die?
Wasn't it implied she fell?

I think Jane was distrustful of the man because she was supposed to represent the more mature, cautious women in Aurora's life. I don't think the other faeries are parts of Aurora herself, but rather parts of her life reborn into the form of fae. Something like that.

I think the fly made Aurora sad because it was the same type of fly eating her old body. It's just that sinking feeling you get but you can't explain.
>>
>>78019078

It did seem like she was killed. It also makes sense from a storytleling point of view, in my opinion - Aurora does not spare Sticks or the other more sympathetic little folk. Kind and horrible alike, they all die. In the end, there is only Aurora, and nobody else.

Aurora survived - and maybe the girl who made her home in the dead girl's skull - she was never shown dead, but probably froze to death. Nobody killed her, though.
>>
>>78019388
Where was it implied she fell?
Unless she was climbing a tree, she doesn't look like she's in a position where she experienced physical trauma like that. My guess was that she might have eaten poisonous berries or mushrooms, since poisonous mushrooms were mentioned by one of the little folk.
>>
What the fuck is wrong with this fairy folk?
Hey, we crawled from a big giant we called home, now it seems dead, but meh, who cares, it had stuff in its pockets.
Also, many our friends are dead now. Poor sobs, move on.

A pencil can't pierce a human skull. Damage the spine where the head connects probably but her dying via colored pencil doesn't seem very likely. Even if it did die by a wound like that, you'd see blood but from what we see of her - there doesn't seem to be any physical trauma.

Here's my theory on whatever. I think the girl was walking through the woods, daydreaming about little faeries and forest creatures and whatnot. She eats a poison (magic?) mushroom and lies down and dreams. and dies.

If you look, during the storm, you'll see that all the faeries come out of her head. And in the first couple of pages, there are no backgrounds. Even the first three panels have no color- like the characters are new and freshly formed and their world isn't real yet. They've only existed for a few seconds.

As she died, the girl's imagination became real and leaked out of her head. Unfortunately, the world can be very cruel.

It's why the creatures look like what a girl would imagine. Some look like ballerinas. Some look like dolls. There's a prince and a princess. One looks like a woman from a fashion magazine. One even looks like the girl herself!

I'd wager a guess that the man in the cabin was her father. We only meet him months after his daughter's death. He never found her body. He has become a drunk, consumed by his work. He's gotten rid of everything that reminds him of his daughter expect one broken doll.

Ok guys, lets keep talking here.

Which part of big Aurora each character represent?

In part, I think that this anon is on the right direction - >>78029640 and also this anon - >>78019388

Little Aurora is the main representation of big Aurora, and the story is about she losing her inocence in order to survive.

The other characters, are part of her imagination, combined with people that she knew on real life, or the impretion that she has of them. The prince for example, comes from fayry tails and represents inocents dreams of a charing prince that makes everything becomes good at the end.

Jane represents the more mature woman, that takes care of herself and dont need no man. Maybe big Aurora view on adulthood.

I would argue that Zelie also represents SOME aspect of Aurora, maybe her more childlike side, that liked to be treated as a sppoiled princess, and refused to grow up. The part where she just stared to the headless doll seemed very significant, even more if you think that the man is her father, and the doll is one of the only things that he still has.

And the girl that stayed on her body? That girl is very intriguing......its obviously part of Aurora in some way, she stayed living on her head, never abandoned the body, and had dreams that she was big Aurora woking up... maybe she represents a physical aspect? Its kind of disturbing...also, she looked a lot like big Aurora...

aren't they some kind of manifestation of children dreams, or they were living inside a corpse?
>>
>>78037173
I have always been if the opinion that they are representations of parts of her personality.
>>
>>78037335
I guess that some of them are, other seems mkre like impretions that she has about other people.

Also, anyone saw the pkttery:

>rat kills mother and startbwearing her clothedls.
>aurora kills rat, and start wearing it's skin.

This has to mean something....
>>
>>78037335

That's what I figure.

(Little)Aurora = Aurora's conscious.
Timothy = Aurora's insecurity and things she is ashamed out.
Giant = Aurora's hunger
Henry = Aurora's idea of a handsome prince, probably her libido too, depending on her age. You can see him hitting on other girls even before marrying Zelie, foreshadowing LittleAurora's cuc-king.
Zelie = Aurora's desire to be pretty and popular. it might have been particularly strong force in Aurora's mind, since she is so much bigger than the other creatures. And if Aurora was close to becoming a teenager, concerns like that often come to the forefront when you're growing up and unsure of your place in the world.

Because Aurora was a child when she died, her personality isn't fully developed and many of the creatures from her mind have a childlike selfishness and undeveloped sense of right and wrong and many weren't that bright. If Aurora died as an adult, the things that came out of her might have been much different.

>>78037733

Like pottery...
>>
>>78037866
And the little maggot eating girl on her Head?
>>
>>78038393
Not Misha but I always thought she was the primal need to survive, she eats maggots and stays around the body the most, clearly not wanting to give up Aurora and doing whatever it takes to survive even while the other small folks think it's unsavory.
>>
>>78029640
I came to a similar conclusion, though it differs from yours in that I believe the faeries are based on children Aurora knows personally and they look and act as they do because they're caricatures. All the boys her age still act immature, so Aurora envisions them in her mind as little children. Hector was likely an older boy Aurora had a crush on. Most of the girls are larger and more behaved because not only does Aurora likely know them better than the boys, but also due to that bit of sexism we all had at that age, boys rule girls drool. The faeries that are less fully formed, like Timothy and the doll-like girl, are likely children Aurora had met but hardly knew so they're less concrete in her mind. They're both larger than most of the other girls, so maybe they're older, which would explain why Aurora didn't get the chance to know them well.
>>
>>78035460
>Jane represents the more mature woman, that takes care of herself and dont need no man. Maybe big Aurora view on adulthood.
My interpretation is Jane being a representation of Aurora's mother. I'm working under the assumption that the man in the cabin is in fact her father, we see that broken doll which implies that he had a child, Aurora, living with or at least visiting him there. Living alone would imply he and his wife are separated, which would explain Jane's view of him, saying how she thought he was horrible and smelled bad. This would also help explain how independent Jane is, she's a caricature of Aurora's mother so she's quick to leave them like she did her father. She also seems fond of Aurora, and Aurora fond of the giant. I believe the woman with the baby is also a representation of Aurora's mother, the memory of the nurturing woman that cared for her as a child. Fitting given her early disappearance, leaving the baby alone.
I'm with you on Zelie, Aurora and the grub-eating girl all being aspects of Aurora. Maybe representations of the id(grub girl), ego(Zelie) and superego(Aurora)?
>>
>>78038682
This, I liked your interpretativo for Jane.

Man, this keep getting more depressing.

I can oly imagine now little Aurora and the man in the cabin getting old together, never quite interacting.

>>78016073 mouse places the baby in a spot where it will be found. Sticks around until it's sure the baby is safe.

>>78016114 mouse tries to fit in and make friends. It see's that everybody is wearing clothes, so it does too. Tries to suggest that she should live in his mousehole.
