You know what sucks, /co/?

The 90s.
>>
>>78012790
Isn't Willis an unabashed 80's kid?
>>
>>78012790
I was born in 1997 (same age as these characters), what were "le" 90s like, /co/?

You're going to say "underage!!!" or "90s shit was still around from 2000 to 2003, how could you not know about it?", but the thing is, I don't remember anything from ages 3-6 other than floating shapes, colors, and drinking from a sippy cup.

It was alright. Can't really compare it to growing up in any other decade though, I only had one childhood

I was born in 1991. I have pretty fond memories of 1997, some movies I loved came out, music, I got a playstation, it was great.

Starship Troopers was an excellent film, seriously.

I miss old software. The old encyclopedia britannica blew my mind as a kid, the one that was on Windows 95, it had videos and animations and stuff and even a cool maze game.

I also really want to go back and play all those old educational games, for some reason. I'm super nostalgic for them.

Clinton's election caused esurgence of political correctness that Reagan kept under wraps, Nintendo and Sega had a rivalry until the Playstation emerged and began the modern gaming era. The internet, while having been around since the 70's, was made accessible thanks to the development of the WWW and the low cost of home computers and ISPs.

You mean the Xbox, anon. We have the Xbox to thank for most of what flies these days. PS1-Xbox was an intermediate time of CGI and multi-disc games before the budget bloat and DLC set in.

man, I wish I could run my old educational CD Roms. I had 3d Dinosuars that had video clips of animatronic dinosaurs in poor resolution, a body one that had a game where you shrink down and zap cancer cells, an ocean one. And the characters are okay, generally. It's Willis' godawful attempts at dramatic writing and action that drag this comic into the shit pits.
>>
>>78013697

Nah, Xbox was still too early for that. That was the PS2's era, the DLC storm and casualification really took off in the last gen with the Xbox 360. It's easy to forget now but the original Xbox was the underdog with a lot of weird old games.

Also, the vacuum created by the collapse of the soviet union lead to regional violence and the rise of Al Queda. People like to pretend that terrorism didn't exist in the 90's, but that's because people were actively ignoring it.

You also had the rise of Fox news, CNN, and 24 hour cable news which created a new kind of mass media scandal culture thanks to the Lewinsky affair and the OJ Simpson trial.

>>
>>78014307
No, he just needs to stop trying so hard. Nothing gives away a writer trying to write younger than he is more than trying to force trends into a comic to look younger.
>>
>>78014267
I bet Willis is too afraid to do anything other than oral sex leading into vaginal penetration. Nothing kinkier than that.

In fact, I think that's what all of the porn comics have been like thus far. I mean, sure, doujins from Japan are generally just as creative, but at least they get variance in more than one case.
>>
>>78012874
>You're going to say "underage!!!" or "90s shit was still around from 2000 to 2003, how could you not know about it?"

Don't be, she gets plenty of guys who know how to do her right once the cons come around.
I know we throw this word around a lot on 4chan, but I wouldn't be surprised if Willis was the textbook definition of a c.uck. I don't think he has enough stones to say "Hey wait a minute, this black baby is too black to be mine."
>>

Of course not. There was, especially in Clinton's first term, a lot of cynicism and distrust of the government and it was cool to believe in conspiracy theories.

90-92, when GHW Bush was president, felt a bit more like the leftover fumes of the 80s.

It's more accurate to say his childhood happened in the 80s and adolescence in the 90s. Ofc if you were born in 1989, then you'd be a teenager in the 2000s but a child in the 90s.

People born in 89 weren't watching the Smells Like Teen Spirit video on MTV back then, more like Sesame Street. Someone that age wasn't even consciously aware of music until grunge had died out. Their teenager years were dominated by shitty nu metal and American Idiot.

>I was born in 1997 (same age as these characters), what were "le" 90s like, /co/?
A better time and I don't mean that in a "WOW MUH CARTOONS" way, it was generally a more positive time on the whole. You had some shit every now and then but that happened in other places, not America, where the worst that happened was pretty much Waco and Oklahoma City. You had navel gazing whining brought about by the grunge generation but it existed because things had been more or less going fine post-fall of the USSR (and a little before then) that they had to invent things to worry about. You had a good economy and New York City was cleaned up. You could also be a little un-PC without having to worry about lynch mobs coming after you. You generally had a cool future envisioned because of how rapidly tech was advancing as well.

That's not to say it's perfect, no time period is, but it was on the whole a hell of a lot better than it is now.

It's cliche as fuck but 9/11 really DID change everything. It completely wiped away what sense of underlying optimism (even if it was hidden under a veneer of cynicism) the '90s may have had. Combine it with Bush v. Gore which really blew open the political divide in the country moreso than it had been even under Clinton (and instilled in conservatives a "fuck you" mindset and in liberals a "everyone but us is wrong, we don't lose we're cheated" one) and Columbine kind of took our "innocence".

Again that's not to say shit wasn't bad in other parts of the world because it certainly was but from an exclusively American position shit was cash although a lot of what sucks about today was planted back during that time too like >>78013844 said.
>>

>>
>>78018449
Nah, I'm not.

Besides, Willis is more racist than I am. He paired up one gay black guy with another gay black guy. That's implying that blacks can only fuck other blacks.

>>
>>78018818

I won't argue that. Every day since January 20, 2009 has been like living in a continuous nightmare.
>>
>>78018992
This last comic was barely porn. If I cared to do the math, I'd say how little of the comic is actually pornographic material, with the rest of it being goddamn dialogue boxes.

Like, Jesus Christ, Willis, I know you think that porn should be deep and introspective and some bullshit about love making, but nobody fucking reads Oglaf expecting Cerberus. Or whatever a better analogy would be; just stop trying to reconcile your personal hangups with sex in your porn comics and learn to draw a foreskin.
>>
>>78018982

That's because his development as an adult was stopped in college.

Hey Dewd, been a while since I seen ya. I guess I'm way behind now and your Freakanime archive is well behind what I last saw.

>You could also be a little un-PC without having to worry about lynch mobs coming after you

Political correctness was pretty bad in the 90's. It started gaining traction in the 70's before being stifled by Reagan and Bush only to burst out again thanks to Clinton.

The First half of the 90's was pretty economically dour following the stock market crash of '87. The dotcom boom was pretty short lived, though the fascination with the computer age (which was a carry-over from the 80's) was pretty positive.

>>78019288
All the stuff that's supposedly bad about Generation Z has been going on since the late 80's at least, it's just gotten worse. That said, it's not unique to them, either. Esp. single-parent homes. I think people try too hard to define generations and trends by arbitrary dates.

I've noticed that even though 90's nostalgia has been going on for a few years now, 80's nostalgia hasn't lost steam. I remember in the mid-2000's when the 80's nostalgia boom began (just like the 70's boom in the 90's and the 50's boom in the 80's etc...), it should have died off by now, but it keeps going. Maybe because the 90's and 200's were pretty stagnant, and the 80's in comparison is so vibrant and politically interesting.

>>
>>78019941

I'd say the 00s were more stagnate than the 90s.

Fashion was just kind of bland compared to the outrageous styles of the 50s-90s, and pop-culture wise it was mostly just marketable retreads or the same old shit.
>>
>>78019994
The 90's were more distinct from the 80's than the 2010's are from 2000's. It seems like things have just slowed to a crawl culturally, which is why people keep pilfering from the 80's and 90's. Granted there was a 70's nostalgia boom in the 90's, but it wasn't as all-encompassing and extensive as we see now.

Britpop started at the same time as grunge, it just didn't get a foothold in America until the late 90s when the Spice Girls and Oasis reached the other side of the lake. Early 90s Europe was characterised by tons of electronica and raves. Europeans at that time were feeling great and incredibly relieved that the Cold War was over at last and the fear of Soviet invasion gone. Those cheerful music styles like Britpop were a reaction against the whiny, mopey alternative rock coming out of the US.

That it was never "uncool" to be a democrat in the 2000's, if anything, pop culture turned more reflexively liberal. First you had the sour grapes about Al Gore losing, then you had all the anger about the War in Iraq, and between 2004 and 2008 you had outrage over the housing crash and people counting down to Obama.

Bush's second term was a little different after the initial shocks of 9/11 and Iraq had passed. Also he got a little softer and more willing to bend to Democrats when he didn't have to worry about reelection anymore. A lot of the things like the housing crash that Bush was accused of were mainly in his final two years when Nancy Pelosi sat in the Speaker's seat. 2006-08 were not quite like 02-04 at the height of the post-9/11 patriotic frenzy.

I was born at the tale end of '87, so I remember the 90's okay. It was a lot more relaxed than it is now. Grunge fashion clashed with neon colored and floral printed clothing. Popular music was either dark/depression/gloomy, aggressive dance music, or sugary pop. There was a lot of X-TREME advertising from shows to food to clothing. Cartoon Network aired old cartoons from the 40's-60's along with their original content. Nick had shows aimed at teenagers and a lot of sport/game shows series.

Beepers were a thing, payphones had lines, and there weren't massive closings of stores like Bradleys, Blockbuster, Radioshack, etc. The economy was also a lot better than it is now.

Korn were hot up to about 2003, however there's generally two maxims of rock and pop music.
